WRITER'S NOTE:
this is part 2, I figure it's about
30-40% done.

My biggest worry so far is characterizing the Sabers.
It just doesn't feel right somehow. Advise me as
you will, people :)

Sylia's eyes opened. She blinked once, opened her eyes fully, then
went to brew a cup of coffee.

=====================================

Four figures sat in a darkened room, looking at a large schematic of
GENOM tower.

"Tell me you're kidding," said a slack-jawed Linna.

"Believe me, I wish I was," replied Sylia.

"So this is why it was 230 million total," said Priss. "This is gonna
be ugly. Fun, but ugly."

"We're gonna storm GENOM Tower," muttered Nene in disbelief. "This
kind of crazy idea I expect from Priss."

"Hey you!"

"Two hundred and thirty million," chanted Linna quietly, trying to
remind herself of why she was doing this really really suicidal
mission. "Two hundred and thirty million... two hundred and
thirty..."

"From the information I've been able to gather, the lab is located in
level 108, block 12," said Sylia. "It's part of a high security
zone." On the display, a small rectangular room was highlighted.

It was really deep within the tower. Incredibly so. The Knight
Sabres had stormed GENOM tower before, but the farthest they've ever
gone was the surface of the tower and on the roof.

One time it was a surprise raid that resulted in Mason's death. The
other was when the rogue boomer Largo had taken over the city.

They had never taken on GENOM tower at its full strength with the
intent of breaching its security.

"This'll be one to remember, that's for sure," said Priss.

Sylia briefly looked at the others as they chatted amongst themselves.
They might live. They might die. It was all in her hands. She
didn't have to do this. She could turn down the mission. It wasn't
like this was going to be a critical blow against GENOM.

It was a very dangerous mission.

It wasn't neccessary at all.

But it was a strike against GENOM.

"Here is how we'll accomplish this mission. It will require
precision, so listen carefully..."

[later that night]

Carefully, gently, as if a sudden movement would shatter hit, Dr.
Fries moved his hand over the ice monolith that imprisoned his beloved
Nora. So close, and yet again he was forbidden from her touch by the
cold, the bitter cold...

"Mr. Freeze, sir?" said a GENOM technician meekly, shivering from the
brutal cold of Freeze's lab.

"Speak," commanded Freeze.

"All the equipment you requested has been moved here."

"Good." Fries took a moment longer to gaze upon his wife, then
turned away.

Freeze went to his hardsuit. The one he donned today was, in
appearance, a replica of his original suit. It was far more advanced
than that. He designed it well, and unsupervised, just in case
certain parties became hostile.

With a reptilian hiss Mr. Freeze's suit snapped shut, securing him
within its chilly confines. He flexed an arm and allowed himself a
grim smile as he felt the power of the suit hum around him.

He checked the instrumentation, making sure that the coolants were
functioning, then turned to the lab tech.

"Shut off the coolants. It is time."

The technician shuffled over to a control panel on a nearby wall and
pulled several levers. Immendiately, clouds of evaporating ice began
obscuring the room.

Then the alarms went off.

"Tell me what is causing that. Now."

The technician scrabbled over all the controls, then turned to Mr.
Freeze. "It isn't us, sir. There's an emergency going on outside."

As if to punctuate the point, a very loud explosion thundered in the
distance. Freeze's laboratory trembled ever so slightly from it.

Freeze narrowed his eyes and turned on his comm system. "Miss
Madigan. Are you there? Madigan."

//Madigan here. What can I do for you?//

"What is happening outside? This is not the time for disturbances."

//We are currently under fire from a mercenary group.//

"Do not let it interfere with my work." There was a hint of menace in
Freeze's voice. "Do not. That is all."

misc notes:

as I was working on this, an idea for a followup
ALREADY popped up in my mind. Dunno if I'll do
it, but it sounds nice.

BGC: The Demon's Flame
Frustrated by the continuing devastation of nature, the immortal
Ra's Al Ghoul returns from the shadows to cure the earth of the
disease known as mankind. His first target: the destruction
of GENOM. Unfortunately, he's not picky about civilian casualties,
as is demonstrated by the use of his 'Lazarus Bomb' on the city
of Los Angeles. The Sabres and GENOM join forces to stop
Ra's Al Ghoul from obliterating MegaToyko.

Sounds neat, eh?

Too bad 1) I'm not done with this one and 2) Ra's Al Ghoul
is CONSIDERABLY obscure compared to, say, Two Face.

ah, well, so much for that.
