Sailor Moon,
The Adventures of Darien:
So Blind.
"Yes I am." Darien corrected. "I am Tuxedo Mask!"
"You are?" said the woman before him. She had been a nusance
to
Darien ever since he had met her. He used to mock her every chance
he got.
But now, she had decied to reveal to him her alter-ego. Sailor Moon.
It
was strange, Darien had never seen the similarity until right now.
The same
hair, same face, same cry, only the clothes changed, and he couldn't
see
though it.
Darien reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his
rose.
"Uh huh" he affirmatively said. He could see the shock in
Sere...Sailor
Moon's eyes. She must have felt the same about himself. As if
staring
through the rose in front of him, Darien's body seemed to grow
transparent.
Over his normal clothing, a black tuxedo appeared with a billowy cape
in the
back. As his body returned to its normal opaque self his top hat and
mask
appeared on his face.
Darien could see it in her eyes. Sailor Moon's look of shock
turned
into a look of intrigue. Into the silly school girl crush look he
had seen
so many times before when Serena looked at Andrew. She never did
hide her
emotions well, he thought to himself. There are more similarities
between
Serena and Sailor Moon than he initially thought.
An image caught Tuxedo Mask's eye. It was Zoycite moving in
the
background. Tuxedo Mask's attention returned to the task at hand.
"You
should get out of here Sailor Moon!" he said in the deeper, more
serious
tone he always used when being Tuxedo Mask. "This fight doesn't
concern
you anymore!" Was he lying? Sailor Moon has as much right to be he
as he
did. Was he being selfish? With his goal so close at hand was he
willing
to do anything to complete it?
"Course it concerns me, you kidding?!" Sailor Moon replied.
She
stomped closer to Tuxedo Mask. "If we stick together we can do beat
em',
lets do it!" So full of energy was she. Couldn't she at least once
do what
he says? He needed those crystal's now more than ever, he wasn't
going to
let anything get in his way.
"Sailor Moon, I've got to earn those crystals," he said,
trying to
get her to understand. Perhaps where command fails compassion would
prevail.
"I know, so you can find your princess," she said in almost a
mocking
tone. Tuxedo Mask would have to play along if this was ever to end.
Playing
the innocent might work.
"Yeah," was all he could muster out. Anything else would
just ask
for Sailor Moon to complain. But somewhere, deep within himself,
someone
cryed out, telling Tuxedo Mask to remeber his duty... Protect Sailor
Moon.
In this place, they were vulnerable to almost any enemy. How could
he
protect her.
Zoycite's words broke Tuxedo Mask's chain of thought. "So,
Tuxedo
Mask, you still interested in fighting for the rainbow crystals or
not?"
He was still interested in fighting? Even after getting all of the
crystals
AND trapping them in this endless tower? He must have some vendetta
against
him. How could Tuxedo Mask exploit this?
"You know I am, but you've got to garuntee a fair fight and
Sailor
Moons safty first!" Thats it Tux, get the crystal's and keep Sailor
Moon
safe at the same time.
"Oh course, I wouldn't have it any other way," replied Zoycite
in an almost joking tone. How much could he trust him? He had
double
crossed him before, by taking the crystals... or had he. They were
going
to fight right now, and he might have the crystals on him. Perhaps
he
was seroius.
"Your on," returned Tuxedo Mask, in a low tone. He stepped
forward
a bit, ready for Zoycites first attack. He would be ready now, no
suprises,
no tricks, just a fight to the finish. He saw Zoycite pull a grin
across his
face.
"Lets get this over with," he sneered. Tuxedo Mask stared at
his
face for the first sign of his attack. If it was above, he would
attack from
there, below, then Tuxedo Mask should get ready to move off the
ground he was
on. The two fighter stared at eachother wait for one to attack
first.
No. Zoycite wasn't staring at Tuxedo Mask. He was staring
at...
Sailor Moon! Serena! Then Zoycite's eyes widened for a second.
Tuxedo Mask had never moved so fast before.
Behind Sailor Moon, Zoycite had an ice crystal aimed and
about to
shoot at her. Sailor Moon spurr around to see what at attracted
Tuxedo
Mask's attention just in time to see him throw himself infront of the
flying
ice crystal. He let out a cry when it puntured his body.
"Noooooo!" cried Sailor Moon. Tuxedo Mask felt like he was
falling
forever. Down a bottomless abyss. A pair of hands reached out and
grabbed
him. Sailor Moon had caught Tuxedo Mask before falling to the floor.
"Tuxedo
Mask!" she was crying now.
He couldn't feel his legs anymore. He felt the ice crystal
in his
back dissolve as Zoycite's crystals normally did when they had
finshed their
job. 'Stupid! How could I have been so blind!' thought Tuxedo Mask
to
himself. 'I should have known! Should have known Zoycite would have
tried
something. Why didn't I see it?'
"Its up to you now to get the crystals." Tuxedo Mask managed
to
murmur. So much to say to Sailor Moon, Serena, just not enough time.
He had
managed to make an enemy of Serena by just being his nochalant self.
How
could he make up for that. Alienating his only ally in battle. "I
just want
you to know that I'll always be on your side, and always will be."
'So blind.' He thought back to the last time he said those
words. It
was after falling for that fake Sailor Moon. Was it only yesterday?
So much
of his body felt cold. Holding on to his life was taking so much
energy. He
couldn't see though Zoycite's disguise, what had made him so naive
lately?
Was it being so close to the crystals? If it only was more
aware, if
he just payed attention, he might not have been in the debilitated
state he
was in now. If he wasn't so blind he would have seen through the
Sailor Moon
outfit to see Serena. Did he really hate her? No, as much as an
annoyance
she was, he really didn't hate her. Could he ever make it up to her?
The coldness claimed his arm and it fell limp. The world was
darkening around him. His head began to tilt and fall into Sailor
Moon's lap.
He managed to wretch open his eyes one more time, just in time to see
the rest
of the Sailor Scouts arrive. 'Funny' thought Darrien. 'I never
noticed how
much Sailor Mars looks like Raye.' He eyes finnally closed. 'Oh,
Raye. What
will I ever tell Raye...'
Then the darkness engulfed him.

Sailor Moon
Adventures of Darien:
Remember When...
The darkness was all consuming. It seemed to tear at Darien
with
all its might. The pain that was surging throughout his body felt
that it
would never stop. He felt the soft, warm glow of a hand on his face.
He
tried to look up at its owner but his body wouldn't respond. He just
reveled
in the kind energy that came from it.
It was stroking his hair and soothing his face. Suddenly,
all the
pain went away and all he could feel was the hand. He face felt a
drop of
water. Too small to be rain, perhaps a tear... He tried again to
rip against
the darkness and open his eyes. It didn't see as difficult as it did
seconds
before.
His eyes opened and were staring at the compassionate eyes of
a woman
he once knew. They were Serena's eyes, but they had a differnt sort
of look
to them. This wasn't the same girl he knew, not even Sailor Moon
ever looked
like this. As differnt as the eyes were to him, he felt that he has
seen them
before in another life. As he glared into them, it seemed as though
someone
had cleaned the glass of his mind and for once was letting the light
shine
through. It was then that he remembered.
Those eyes were of Princess Serenity, the young princess of
the moon.
In another life, those eyes had looked at him with more love than
could fill
the universe. No, the Negaverse.
He remembered Beryl. The stuggle to keep earth from her grasp
and
losing. The agony that he felt as he watched his peaceful planet fall
to the
rule of one of the galaxy's greatest tyrannies. His people's last
effort to
get him aboard a ship to take him to the moon. The single tear that
fell
from his eye when the city he had launched from was flashed out of
existance.
Feeling the agony again when he told his story to Queen Serenity and
his beg
to her to be able to help the moon defend against such an attack.
His people may have died but he would get revenge on Beryl on
the
moon. Wait, HIS people. He was someone important in his former
life, a
prince. Prince of the Earth, and betrothed to Princess Serenity.
Was it a
curse? No, of course not. He loved Princess Serenity, he loved...
Serena?
They were the same person, weren't they?
He moaned as he pulled his arm from the abyss that had
grabbed it.
He held her hand to his own. "Your free now my princess. Your free
and now
I rememeber everthing." He fought back the flood of memories for a
moment to
be able to talk. "Its all so clear, I am Prince Darien." A momentary
look of
shock crossed her face but soon subsided when she remebered the the
same
thing.
Darien's head spun from the all the memories that were coming
to him.
He found it hard to keep conciousness while Princess Serenity told
him what
she remembered. She told him how she was from the moon kingdom, and
how they
were to marry one day. Then she went into the last day she could
remember
being on the moon. The day that he went to fight against Beryl to
defend the
moon kingdom.
The locket. The trinket he was attached to was hers, her
last gift to
him before going off to fight. It would only play for the two of
them, it
would only work to bind their love.
Pain shot through Darien's body. His eyes slammed shut,
squinting
from the pain. The pain was too much for him to handle. He was
slipping back
into unconsiousness. The last thing he heard was Priness Serenity
saying
"We're free."
Back into darkness.
* * * * * *
It wasn't like he was told. He saw no bright light, no mist,
no
booming voice, it just felt like he was floating in space. Nothing
materal,
no piece of existance to latch onto. Just being, but not existing.
He was
frantic at first. Flairing limbs that weren't there, yelling words
without
a mouth. Then, when he began to calm down he heard them.
At first whispers, but when he concentrated on them the grew
louder.
Familar voices, first it was the Sailor Scouts worring about Serena.
Then one
voice worring about him. The voice was Raye's, she was a Sailor
Scout. She
was telling him to get up. As much as he wanted, though, he didn't
see to
know how. It was like learning all over again.
The voices changed. They had sounds of hate in them. He
heard why
shortly, it was Kunzite. He appeared and was, challenging the
scouts? No,
he wanted something. Didn't he already have the Rainbow Crystals?
What did
he want? Darien felt a tingling sensation about his conciousness.
Kunzite
wanted him!
He was powerless to do anything. All he could do is listen
and follow
his body. It was strange, to be pulled along like an anchor, but
when the
pulling stopped there was silence. The lack of feeling once again
brought
panic to him. It was much later when he finally heard anything.
There were two voices, both he didn't reconize but one seemed
to pique
at him. There was still a constant flood of memories flowintg into
him but
none yet had this voice in it. He listened as the voice talked to
the
unknown one. He couldn't catch all of it but at far as he could
tell, the
voice was asking the unknown one about energy.
The unknown voice was demanding lots of energy to do the
action.
Darien strained to find out what action. He heard talk about time,
minions,
then finshing up with the action. If he still had blood, it would
have run
cold when he heard what the action was. The mind blanking of himself.
His body trembled.

Sailor Moon
The Adventures of Darien
Slipping Away
They had attempted to heal his wounds before the procedure
was to be
carried out. In his debiltated state he might not survive the slow
draining
of his thoughts. They obviously had more experence in killing than
in healing
for as far as Darien's conciousness could tell they had only bandaged
the
gaping hole in his back, and given a mild healing medicine.
To them this had done nothing but stop the bleeding. But to
Darien,
it had allowed him to enter his body again. He couldn't wake,
probably they
also had given him a seditive, but he could begin healing. This
couldn't be
the way everyone felt when they experenced near death feelings.
Darien was
so free, he was healing his body, he could hear what others were
saying. But
then again he had so much to fight for. Maybe HE wouldn't let himself
die.
The other people he knew that slipped into coma's didn't have
much
waiting for them if they came back. Most of the kids at the
orphanage didn't
have anything. He remembered when Jimmy got in that accident coming
back to
the orphanage when he was... what? Twelve? It was such a small car,
and not
going very fast, but it hurt him the same. Darien remembered staring
at
Jimmy's lifeless body as he soon grew a puddle of blood around his
head.
He lost so much blood that his brain was sufficating. They
managed
to repair the damage to his body but he wouldn't wake up. Now that
Darien
thought about it, what would he wake up to? Going back to the
orphanage,
the daily chores and work, no family, few friends. It wasn't worth
it to go
back. Come to think of it, Darien wondered how he even got through
it.
The rose. Beautiful, sweet smelling, the symbol of love
everywhere.
But it thorns show great inner strength and power. 'Shoulda been a
poet'
thought Darien. Why had that thought entered his head? With the
flood of
memories that were coming to him, thoughts were popping in and out at
random,
but why was this so compelling.
Shortly after he remebered. It was almost as if it happened
yesterday. The thought flowing into him now weren't from his former
life on
the Moon and Prince of the Earth. These thoughts were... before the
crash!
But he was only a kid then, how could he remember these things. His
little
chubby body, clumbsy, so full of energy. And... his parents. Not
his ones
of royalty, but the first ones he called mama and papa.
He was only remembering short glimps of them. Not full
thoughts,
this was probably because of his age. But enough for his body to
shed a tear.
They were respectable, but sad all of the time. After the crash he
had no one
to be with, so he must not have had any relitives. NO. They were
sad because
they all had died just recently. It was... a bomb. Why? Who were
their
enemies?
Now his thoughts drifted to the day of the crash. They had
just
been at some sort of banquet. For his relitives perhaps? They were
on the
highway just outside town. His parents were talking about something,
he
couldn't hear. Up ahead there was something in the road. Why don't
they see
it? His mouth opened but no sound came out. He was terrified, he
had seen
that person before.
The car swerved not to hit the person. The pavement seemed
to slide
under the wheels of the car. The cliff was just ahead, Darien's
father
twisted the wheels to turn but they din't change course. They all
screamed
as the car flew off the highway and into the darkness of night.
* * * * * *
They were moving him. Being back in his body he could feel
when
anyone touched him. It wasn't a great distance but it was enought
for Darien
to know what was going on. They had decied that he had healed enough
and was
ready to begin to swipe his memories. In trade for being able to
feel in his
body again, he had lost the ability to hear what they were saying.
But he knew they were prepping him. For the ultimate death,
absence
of knowledge. There was nothing he could do. 'I'm sorry, Serena,'
he
thought. 'Meatball head...'
* * * * * *
The car plummeted for it seemed forever. It all stopped with
a crash.
They had hit the bottom. It was awfully soft for the ground. They
had landed
in a tree! Not the softest landing but he was still alive. His
parents were
frantic trying to get out of the car. One of the branches had gone
through
the side window and crossed the width of the cab. His parents were
stuck
where they were, no pushing would get them out of the pin the tree
had on
them.
They yelled at him. "Jeremy!" they cried. Jeremy? Where
they
talking to Darien? "Run son! Get help!" they were talking to him.
He didn't
remember being confused as he was now. His small body fit easily out
the
window. He climbed onto a branch and jumped down to the ground. He
was
familiar with this place. They weren't far from home. He could
easily make
it into town and get help.
He began to run. They were in a small forest area close to
town. It
was dark out but the full moon cast a manageable light on the ground
infront
of him. It was then he heard the most terrifing sound he had heard
in his
life. An explosion. he whipped his body around to see a pillar of
smoke
coming from the direction of the car.
His mouth voiced out the words Mom and Dad, but no sound.
The entire
forest was quiet for those first few seconds. His voice finally came
to him,
"MOM! DAD!" he screamed. He dashed towards the smoke. Hopeful
thoughts flew
through his head. 'They could have gotten out, it might have been
some other
car.'
Just as he got about twenty yards from the source of the fire
he heard
voices. A smile stuck across his face as he ran faster to the car.
He stuck
his head out from behind the nearest bush expecting to see his
parents
standing next to the burning car. He saw something else.
It was a man, not his father, with short blond hair, wearing
a grey
what looked like uniform. He was smiling, no, laughing. As he
looked at
this man he had a glimmer of reconigtion. He was the one standing on
the
road! But still, he knew him from somewhere else. In another life,
another...
Suddenly the man wasn't alone. Out of what was thin air a
woman
appeared. This woman had reddish long hair, and was wearing a sort
of
gown with wicked colors. She looked over to the blond man. "Did you
get
him? Is he dead?" asked the woman.
The man looked up at her. "Yes, Queen Beryl." he responded.
"he
was in the car when they had their little 'accident.'" He looked
back at the
firey car.
"Good work, Jadeite." she told him. "Now if we could just
find his
pritty twit!" She began to laugh the most menacing laugh he has
heard. She
was still laughing when she and the man dissapeared.
Darien walked over to the wreckage, by this time it was dying
down.
Tears rolled down his face. He was young, but he knew about death.
Off to
the side of the flames there was a patch of roses growing. He walked
over to
them and picked one out. As he walked back to the fire he held the
rose to
his chest.
His tears were now dropping off his chin and onto the soft
rose petals.
He closed his eyes and tossed the rose into the now small fire. He
would
remember those two till the day he died. Queen Beryl and Jadeite
would pay.
He turned to walk away. As he turned he heard a smaller explotion,
then
a sharp pain to the side of his forehead.
Then the hospital.
* * * * * * *
BERYL! She did this all! It was her fault that his parents
died.
Her fault he had to leave the Earth in the first place. Her fault
that the
moon now lies in ruins. He had all the information for his revenge.
But...
What could he do with it? He felt a strange tingling
sensation about
himself. Had the process already started. Why hadn't he felt the
effects?
The memories. He was creating new ones replacing the ones they were
trying
to drain out of him. He could resist the mind blank! Suddenly it
has occured
to him that he had been in this contraption for a great deal of time
and had
not lost a single memory.
Beryl was standing above him. A look of anger strewn across
her face.
He was right! She hadn't expected it to take this long! She opened
her mouth.
"What is your name!" she yelled at Darien. He easily remembered
that. It
stained his mouth to open it but he managed.
"Darien," he gunted. Her normal look of calmness took over
again.
"Not for long, soon you will be a soldier for the Negaverse."
That
was her plan. She wanted him for her evil army. No doubt she wanted
him
to go after Sailor Moon. "Your first assignment will be to get the
silver
empyrium crystal from Sailor Moon."
Not if he could help it Beryl!
--------------------------------
Sailor Moon
Adventures of Darien
Part 4: A First Love
The darkness was creeping up on him. Darien wasn't even sure how
long he had kept up the fight, just that it seemed like eternity.
Each
passing moment was sheer terror for him, he felt each memory slip
from
his fighting grasp, then forget he ever lost it. It could have been
days
or weeks since he had first found himself in this odd looking
contraption.
But it was every second that he wishes he could be out of it.
Serena had been so tolerant of him, he never returned the favor.
Even side by side as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask he always gave her
the
cold shoulder. Even though he knew not his relationship with her, he
should have been much more kind. It would be thoughts like these
that
could be his undoing.
Serena. How long had he known her? Was it since that first
Negamonster showed its face in Molly's mother's jewelry shop? But,
he
could remember he even younger than that, even as young as a child.
But,
how did he know her before that fateful day when she first showed up
dressed as the Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon?
* * * *
"Are you sure you don't remember anything young boy?" asked a white
clothed individual. "Can you tell me your name? Your parents? Who
was in
the car wreck?" The person kept asking Darien questions, and he kept
trying
his hardest to remember.
Who was he? It was just after the accident with his parents, the
doctors examined his head for damage and found a mild concussion of
the
cerebral cortex. Normally this would result in minor headaches, but
to
Darien, it had meant complete memory loss. Starting from scratch.
"I, is my name..." Darien trailed off, the doctor looked upon him
with interest. "Darien? Darien. Is that my name?" he was more
questionable
about his own name than he would be of a complete stranger's. The
doctor
looked again at Darien, then to his clipboard.
"Okay, if you can't remember, we will call you Darien. We have no
other evidence to suggest otherwise, so..." the doctor stopped for a
second
to write something down on his clipboard. "...Darien, how do you
feel?"
Darien looked at his surroundings, the were mostly white, curtains
hung from the ceiling, metallic beds with white sheets surrounded
him. He
knew he was in a place of increasing interest and population, but he
felt
very alone. He turned to look behind himself. A big window was
open,
letting in a cool summer breeze.
"If your cold," the doctor spoke. "I can close the window." Darien
just gazed outside, the horizon with a setting sun, brilliant hues of
red
and yellow, and just above that, a dark night with a rising moon. He
felt
a longing to feel it, the moon, to touch it with the heart of a lost
love.
"Darien?" the doctor said again. He looked very uncomfortable, like
he was withholding unpleasant news. He sat beside Darien, who turned
to look
at the man. "My name is Michael, Michael Hunt. I know how much this
must
be, hurting you. But you have no home, or family, and the only
information
we will have about you, we can only get from you."
Darien just turned back to the window and looked up at the moon
again. Michael continued talking, "I can see you are a very mature
person
for your age, most children start crying and wont stop until their
parents
come. But I guess, that wouldn't work for you either." Darien
winced,
like a cold spike was shoved into his heart.
Michael looked at Darien once again, "perhaps you need some rest or
to be alone, it is what most mature people ask for when this sort of
thing
happens." Michael didn't seem to be very good with talking with
Darien.
He picked up his clipboard, which he had laid on the bed before, and
walk
silently out of the room.
That was when it began to hurt Darien. His vision quickly became
blurry with tears, they streaked his face and fell to the clean
sheets.
But he kept staring at the moon, as each tear left his eye, and each
missing
thought pained him, he looked up to they sky. A place he wished he
could be.
A sudden commotion jerked Darien from his view. The door to the room
had been thrown open and slammed against the wall. Darien quickly
wiped the
tears from his eyes and looked to get a better view. A young girl
was
running in-between the beds being chased by a tall woman wearing the
same
type of clothing Michael was wearing.
She dashed in-between supports in the beds and under curtains, the
woman following her was in a flurry. The girl ran back and forth
with a
great big smile on her face, and carrying something in her hand.
Suddenly
the girl stopped and looked at Darien. She first glanced at him,
then
looked again with more interest. Darien was curious about the girl,
she was
tiny, probably 5 years younger than Darien.
Her hair was a golden color, held up in two pigtails on the sides
of her head. She was wearing a set of pink pajamas with little bunny
designs all over them. When she turned her head he notice the
pigtails
were coming out of small balls of wrapped up hair just beneath them.
She then ran over to the bed that Darien was sitting on. She held
up a single rose, more perfect than a diamond, and gave it to Darien.
He
cautiously rose a hand and took the rose from the girl's grasp. She
gave a
big smile and a giggle to Darien also, then ran back though the beds
and
out the door.
His tears had stopped, he looked at the rose as if it glowed with
some sort of power. The petals were a scarlet red and smooth, as a
bead of
dew atop the elegant flower fell to the floor. The rose had no
thorns on it,
which even Darien knew was strange, but the bottom of the stem came
to a
point. He brought it to his face and smelled the essence of the
flower.
Moonlight peered in though the window, the sun had set and the moon
was in the sky. It only made the flower look more beautiful, he felt
the
most luckiest person on the planet to have been able to hold that
rose. He
forgot about the accident, his loss, his pain.
* * * *
That young girl, so innocent, so without pain, so... Serena. That
rose gave him the strength to carry on, to keep going. If Serena had
not
given him that rose, he might not have gotten as far in life as he
had.
It seems so small in comparison but it really was a factor in his
young life.
He wished he could thank her right now, but there was a bigger battle
being
fought here.
And he was losing. He knew it too, his life suddenly seemed so
small, like he had just been born. He wasn't sure how much longer he
could
keep up the fight, if he could even keep it up at all. But he had to
try,
he had to give it his all, if not for his own self, for her. For his
only
love, his reason to keep on going with life, Serena.
If just to win, to tell her how much she means to him, to tell her
he was so sorry. To tell her, he loves her, and shall forever. And
no
amount of Negaverse energy can take that away from him.
===================================================
Sailor Moon
Adventures of Darien:
Part 5: Just the Beginning
Darien's inner mind screamed out in terror. This had been a new
phase of the Brain Washing process, sheer pain. When it started,
Darien was
unprepared, for several minutes he thought of nothing but stopping
the pain.
But then he realized the reason for the pain was for just that. To
keep him
from remembering more of his past.
The fight was going bad for Darien, it had been from the start. As
the slow ebb of time proceeded, his past became quickly shorter.
Even
through all the pain, he tried to push on. To see his one true love
again,
Serena. In the bleakness of near defeat, her face dominated his
thoughts.
So beautiful, her eyes were shimmering waves of blue, covered ever so
slightly by her golden hair. Darien would do anything to keep such a
beautiful face away from danger.
But he was danger now. For the first time, the price of failure
was made clear to Darien. If he didn't win this losing battle, he
would be
used at a weapon against Serena. He knew that if Sailor Moon saw
Darien's
face, she would immediately lose her will to fight. Just as Darien
would
do nothing to harm Serena, Serena could never do anything to harm
Darien.
But he wouldn't be the same Darien she knew, he would be the
warrior of evil Beryl wanted, and he would attack, and Serena would
not.
But what if Serena did attack, or even worse, be forced to kill
Darien? It
would be a trauma Serena could never recover from, and Darien would
be
responsible.
Serena was his angel, his love, his only reason to keep up this
fight. Darien had followed her everywhere, even though death, he
followed.
A thousand years was the last time they truly embraced each other.
And if
Queen Beryl was successful, they will never embrace again.
***
So preoccupied with his thoughts of death and pain, Darien didn't
notice the shimmering being of pure energy that was listening in to
his
every thought. If he did, the being's plans would be ruined. Instead
of
risking failure, the being left Darien's body to return to its safe
confines. Much longer outside of them, and the being would dissipate
into
nothingness.
When the being returned to its temporary dwelling, it called upon
its most loyal minion. "BERYL!" screamed the being with a very low
voice
that crackled when it spoke. The being hated waiting, so Beryl
appeared
before the being almost instantaneously. Beryl quickly kneeled
before her
god, her master.
"Yes Queen Metalla?" Beryl spoke in a calm, and respectful tone.
"The, 'Prince,' is completing the final stages of the memory wipe.
Soon he will know only what you tell him. His only truth will be
your
lies." The being twisted and changed its gaseous form. "He has great
power. But keep a watch on him, his loyalties to..." the being
stopped
for a second. By watching Darien's mind, Metalla had learned of the
identity of Sailor Moon and her Sailor Scouts. But this was
privileged
information, Metalla wanted the secret to herself. Beryl would have
to
find out using her own methods.
"...Sailor Moon lie close to the surface," Metalla continued.
"And do not, let your feelings for him in anyway cloud your
judgment!"
The tone of the being's voice quickly became hostile. Beryl was
surprised,
but she held her ground and made so show of it. She did raise her
head to
look at the gaseous cloud that was her master.
Beryl had not made any signs she was attracted to Darien. However
it was not surprising to her that her master would know all. She has
obviously treated Darien different than the Sailor Scouts, both in
this
lifetime and the last. She decided that saying nothing was the best
course of action. Apparently Metalla agreed, because she continued to
talk.
"Now do your job and get me energy. And those Sailor Scouts heads
on a stick! But the pretty twit," Beryl smiled internally for having
used
that reference before, in another life. "I want to see Sailor Moon
alive.
I can't go back and revenge myself upon her mother, but I will kill
one of
the blood line, for the pain they have all caused me." Beryl was
really
surprised this time, it was the first time she had heard of such
hostility
towards the so called 'royal' family of the moon.
"Yes my Queen," replied Beryl. In a flash of light, her person
disappeared from view and the being was alone in her dwelling.
"And I will avenge myself, for losing my body to the damned
Lunarians." Said the being of great power. Metalla was strong, but
unlike
when she was once human, energy could not be provided from food. She
needed direct infusions of energy to keep herself from dissipating.
Their
were clear advantages to being a being without form, but she still
carried
the vengeance from her human body, lost in battle so long ago.
***
This was it. The last breath, the last view of the world from these
eyes. Darien had lost his battle to keep his mind. What was left of
his
original conciseness was destroying itself out of self pity and
heartbreak
for Serena. His memories destroyed, his mind quickly decaying. The
only
thing he had left was his personality, the last remnants of memory.
With
each passing moment, the person that was once Darien was being
killed.
He had only a few thoughts left, only a few to sum up what his life
had been till now, what it could have been, and what his mindless
body would
commit afterwards. There is never enough time to stop and... and
smell the
roses. Life passes by so fast we forget that the scenery is there
and by
the time we remember its too late to go back and look. That was all
he could
say. With two lifetimes behind him, he had little to say that hadn't
been
said before.
Darkness for the last time...
***
Some say a man's life flashes before his eyes when he is close
to death. Often they are scenes of solitude. Times when the wrong
decision
was made, when the left fork was taken when you should have taken the
right. If once could see the thoughts that Darien thought of just
before
the mass in his head became as blank as a clean chalkboard. They
would see
thoughts of lives long past, people who had died and become earth
long
before we all were born. And Serena, once his princess, once his
enemy,
always his best friend.
I guess some of us have it made...

Sailor Moon: Adventures of Darien
Epilogue
The Moonlight Knight stood at the apex of the church temple,
the
fall breeze blew though his hair. Below him, on the street, Serena
was
running as fast as she could. She was again, late for school. The
Moonlight
Knight smiled beneath his pure white veil. From the corner of his
eye he
noticed Darien walking down a street perpendicular to the street
Serena was
running down, he was reading some book on the way to collage, with a
bunch
of other books tucked beneath his shoulder.
He watched them both as Serena dashed down the street and turned the
corner. She was not, of course, looking where she was going and
Darien was
too engrossed in his book to realize that life was going on around
him. The
both clobbered each other and fell to the ground. Darien let out a
cry and
immediately followed it with, "Meatball Head! Why don't you watch
where your
going?"
Serena was quickly picking up her books and managed to reply,
"Ooooh! Maybe if you weren't always such an annoying person I'd
actually
look out for you!" She stuffed her books in her bag and picked up
her piece
of toast she had in her mouth. It had fallen onto the pavement and
was
black with dirt on one side. She began to wail about her lost food.
Darien had quickly gathered his stuff and began to yell at the
crying girl. "Meatball head! Stop crying! It was only toast!" She
stopped
crying for a second, then began again.
"But it was my only Breakfast! Waaaahhh!" she was beginning to
attract attention. Darien quickly picked Serena off the ground and
showed
her his watch.
"Come 'on, your already late for school!" Darien told her, as kindly
as possible. She stared at his watch and then suddenly pushed it out
of the
way and ran off towards her school. As she began to get distance he
could
still hear her saying how much her teacher was going to be mad at
her. He
shrugged it off and continued walking the way he was before she
crashed into
him.
Up above him, the Moonlight Knight was watching it all, and couldn't
help be amused. He knew everything about them, he knew how much they
actually cared for each other, even if they didn't know it
themselves. But
that was the catch, they didn't know it for themselves. Because of a
wish
of Serena's, to be just a normal person again, they had all lost
their
memories of what happened. They even went back in time a year to
just the
point where Luna would have given Serena the ability to become Sailor
Moon,
and changed it all.
But the Silver Crystal didn't count on the fact that Darien
would
love Serena as much as he does. His inner desire to keep Serena safe
was
strong enough to overpower the Silver Crystal so much to the point
where it
had to separate the character Darien, and his urge to help Serena.
And that's what he was, leftovers. The Moonlight Knight was nothing
more than a desire of Darien, a certain characteristic of his to
protect
others. It wasn't just that he was nothing more than a fraction of
Darien,
but that he knew he was just a part, he was aware of what his
existence
was. A guardian, a protector to his love, but could be nothing more.
And
one day, if fate ever deemed it worthy enough, he would have to give
up his
existence to Darien. The parts would have to join to become a whole.
The memories were not his own, the Moonlight Knight knew that. But
they were what little threads of existence he had. Was it more
selfish to
have them taken away, or to keep them? He was holding so much of
Darien's
past, his entire love for Serena was in him. All his thoughts, his
feelings,
his experiences, were bundled up inside the Moonlight Knight.
The Moonlight Knight remembered so much, so much pain was in
Darien's
life, maybe if the Moonlight Knight kept some, he wouldn't care. The
time
in Beryl's mind erasing machine was the worst for Darien, he knew
everything
and all he wanted to do was to hold Serena.
As the Moonlight Knight watched Darien and thought about his own
fate, another figure came up behind him. She had seen the Moonlight
Knight
standing upon this church temple and had come to see why he was so
full of
remorse. Even as she approached, the Moonlight Knight didn't realize
she
was even there until she spoke to him.
"You have no right to keep them," she said in a superior tone. The
Moonlight Knight spun around and pulled out a white rose. The woman
merely
stood there, not affected by his apparent readiness for combat. He
looked
at her carefully, and a glimmer of recognition skimmed through his
brain.
He turned back around to watch Darien walk down the street.
"I know you think you control all, but you are wrong," the Moonlight
Knight finally said. "You don't control me, I am will to the Silver
Crystal,
and Darien. No amount of time traveling can change that." The woman
looked
back at him, with a look of scorn.
"All that being true, you still do not have the right to keep his
memories," she stressed the word still. He turned around to look at
her and
she just stared back. She turned to look down at Darien. "He was
the one
who earned those memories, he experienced them, he made the choices
to get
those memories. You are holding them for him, but he will want them
back
someday."
The Moonlight Knight was about to ask if she was sure, but knowing
her abilities, he knew she was sure. "How could you underst..." he
began to
say, but stopped as he heard a conversation going on below him.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Darien spoke to a young, dark hared woman. He
picked up her box and handed it to the girl. "I didn't mean to knock
that
out of your hand."
"Oh," the girl blushed. She looked at the box and took it from
Darien. "That's okay, I should look where I'm going sometimes." She
glanced
up at Darien and saw he was moving away already. She looked at him
again
with a new interest. Something pulled at her, something like
recognition
from the past. She shrugged it off and headed off to the temple.
The Moonlight Knight watched as the pair walked away from each
other, and remembered the relationship the two had. He muttered her
name,
"Raye." The woman came closer to the white clad Knight. He looked
up at
her and peered into her eyes. "Do you understand why I should keep
some of
the memories now?" He pointed to the young woman.
She looked down at Raye, and up at the Moonlight Knight. He looked
like an old man, that had seen it all and had regretted most of it.
She saw
in him a man she had once loved, and had deemed unreachable. "I,
understand,"
she finally said. "But, they are still his memories, not yours." She
got
closer and grabbed his hand. "You have his spirit and morals, you
know that
when the time comes you will give him everything he needs, and more."
The Moonlight Knight looked down at the way she was holding his
hand. Then moved up to look into her eyes. He looked down to Darien
again.
"You," he paused, he wasn't sure how to say what he was. "You...
loved him
once, didn't you?" He looked back to her.
"I've loved many people in my extensive lifetime," she replied.
"Don't give me that crap," he yelled back. "You loved him and you
couldn't say anything about it."
"He was the princesses consort! I respect the Kingdom." She held
the fury of a thousand people in her voice. "But if you must know,
yes, I
did. I loved him very much."
A thousand things to say to her came to the Moonlight Knight's mind,
but none of them were worth saying. He just stares off at the rising
sun
and says "I'll keep the truly sad ones from him." She was going to
argue him
on that, but decided to let go of his hand and begin to walk away.
As she
walked a cold breeze blew past her. She looked to the sky and spoke,
"A new
evil is approaching from the stars."
"I know," he responded. Already looking off in the direction from
which he felt they were coming. "She'll need protection, and he
won't be
around to help." He looked down to the street. "I guess its my...
duty,
my, promise."
She turned to keep walking and then stopped. Without turning she
spoke, "Even if you give back all his memories, you can still live
where I
do... with me." She was going to explain how, but at that moment, she
realized it would be useless. She wanted to be with someone, in the
quiet
abysm of time, she was the loneliest of all, but maybe, she had found
someone more lonelier than her.
She had been wearing a long trench coat, to cover her cloths. She
took it off and tosses it aside, to reveal her Sailor Fuku. She
raised up
what looked like a key and a dark portal opened before her. She
looked one
more time at the Moonlight Knight and stepped through into her world.
The Moonlight Knight looked at the sky, he could still see some of
the stars, he would until the sun had completely risen. He couldn't
help
but thing about Darien's past, it was the only thing he had to think
about.
He decided there, that he would keep some memories. He didn't need
the
hassle of his intimate relationship with Raye, or the intense pain of
having
his memories erased slowly while his greatest enemy cackled at him.
He would keep the bad memories, if to have any memories at all.
Maybe he would take Sailor Pluto up on her offer, and join her in the
infinite void of time. But he would tackle those problems as the
occurred,
not now when he still has an enemy threat to defeat, and a lifetime
to
relive.
Author's Notes:
This is the end of the Adventures of Darien, in no way is this
series being resurrected. If something is similar to this it
was
by pure accident, I don't wanna open this series back up. I
think
its good as it is. Otherwise, look to my series "The Heroes
We
Love" for continued work by myself. Oh and if anyone has any
comments please mail them to me at Omicron@sprynet.com. Good
reading to you all, and may the wind be at your backs.
