Sailor Moon: Forever Loved
A Tale in the Saga of Sailor Moon
By: Adam "Tempest" Leigh

Moonlight struck the crystalline formation of glass above Ami's
head. The light trickled down her body like a smooth flow of water.
The
angles of the glass fractured the light into a brilliant rainbow of
color,
all displayed at her feet. She felt like the proverbial pot of gold
at the
end of the rainbow. Her logical mind quickly struck that thought down
like
a disease and forgot she had thought it.
She was beautiful now, a sight to see, her once short bluish hair
had become a long, wavy pool of blue. Her eyes were of the purest
aquamarine
and sparkled with the luster of a perfect diamond. Above them, a
golden
tiara with a blue gem in the middle. It wasn't the same one she wore
when
she was once a Sailor Scout, but one especially made for her,
especially
made for this occasion.
She could hear the commotion going on behind the door beside her,
Usagi's wedding was a big event, hundreds of people had come. Mamoru
and
Usagi would be happy forever, for no matter what would happen to the
world
around them, they would always have each other. Usagi had promised
herself
to Mamoru years before now, but things had to be done.
The world was in a dire state back then, for the second time a
nuclear arms disbanding talk was going on. Each of the worlds
countries
still had the horrendous weapons about, and a few were also still
making
them. Usagi made it her burden to go to this talks and try to reason
with
the worlds counties. It was her downfall, she met awesome rebuttal,
and in
the end her reputation had little effect on the talks.
She was known world wide by now, people all over the globe wanted
to see her. But they never had the chance, not with their
governments still
running things. No more than three days after the peace talks, the
Americans
launched a nuclear attack against their former enemies, the Russians.
 They
claim that the destruction of the Soviet Union was a hoax, a ploy to
keep
them of the most wanted list.
But their missiles took a great deal of time after launch to hit
their targets, so the Russians launched a counter attack before the
first
wave had even finished. However, they used this as an opportunity to
attack
who they thought was out to get them, most of Europe. The vicious
circle
continued as Europe dragged China in, who then attacked Africa (hey,
they
might have some advanced technology) who attacked South America who
attacked
Australia.
In the blink of an eye and anywhere from 10 -20 minutes later, there
were 26,000 Nuclear weapons of all sorts and sizes, about to destroy
all of
the upper crust of the Earth. Once again, Usagi decided that this
was her
fault, and should do something about it. She called her legions of
Sailor
Scouts in and told them what her plan was. She wanted to destroy
every
inbound missile with their power.
Ami couldn't recall how many of them complained, but they all did
it. They all went along with Usagi's plan to move themselves to the
upper
atmosphere and save the world. There were so many of them, and so
little
time, they combined their power to send one shock wave across the
planet and
get every missile at once. Each gave up their power to the whole, to
Usagi,
and each fell unconscious as they did it.
Ami was last to give up her power, she remembered looking at all the
bodies lying around her. In the abysm of logic and reason in her
mind, she
was scared for her life. She looked to her once best friend, surging
with
power Usagi looked at Ami with the compassion of a person in love. It
gave
Ami comfort, and in return she gave up her power. Letting the icy
veil of
unconsciousness take her, she could see the shock wave leave Usgai's
body.
Then she awoke. It was days after she had fallen to the enormous
power she expended. The rest of the Sailor Scouts had already
awakened,
and were afraid for Ami. When she breathed her first voluntary breath
days,
they all sighed for relief. Usagi was all over her, she was talking
on
about how much she was worried and how the other scouts felt. That
was
before Ami learned the price.
The world had patched itself together, and all in turn thanked the
Sailor Scouts for their help. For the first time, they were visually
responsible for saving the planet. They traveled the globe, all
except one.
Ami had lost the power to be a Sailor Scout. She didn't know until
she
tried to use her power, and when she did she wished she never had.
Being a
Sailor Scout had meant so much to her, such a part of her daily life
that
withdrawal was difficult.
She was a genius, she could tell anyone anything they wanted to
know, but all she met in her research of her once gift was futility.
Its
wasn't scientific, it wasn't supernatural, she just lost the magic to
be
what she had been, and has yet to forgive herself. She left the rest
of the
Sailor Scouts a note a few days after she learned that she wasn't a
Scout
anymore, telling them that she could no longer be around them, that
she
would feel to jealous of them and that they need to get on with their
lives.
That was how she hid for more than three years. The Scouts could
find her, she always knew they could, but respecting her wishes they
did not.
Until last week, when she suddenly got an invitation to the wedding
of one
Usagi and Mamoru. It wasn't till yesterday until she decided she
would
come, she didn't know why, but she knew she must.
And that was where she was now, standing in one of the vacant
hallways of the wedding chapel, looking at the beautiful stained
glass
window of Serenity, the mother goddess. Even as she stood there, her
life
flashed before her eyes. Chances she missed, things she should have
done,
old promises left un-kept, and a question she desired to ask but
never had
the chance. She had never married, she never found love, she only
kept to
herself like a hermit, wandering the planet.
The sliding door off to her side gently slid over and in walked a
beautiful women with long blonde hair, a streaming white dress, and
crystal
blue eyes. She closed the door behind her and walked towards Ami,
with a
sense of gracefulness like looked like gliding. She was solemn until
she
got right up to Ami, then she put on a grand smile and hugged her.
"Ohhh! You came!" the woman cheered. "I've missed you sooo much!"
She held Ami in a tight embrace, that Ami found it hard to breathe.
After a
few seconds the woman let go.
"Usagi," replied Ami. "I've been thinking about you. It has been a
while, but I can't stay long." She quickly added. However, she knew
how
Usagi felt about this matter.
"But you must say hello to the others, Oh, and Mamoru! Please at
least say hello to my husband." Usagi looked at Ami with a pleading
glance.
"You know how I feel about you all." Ami sharply replied, the turned
away from Usagi to look at the window. Usagi was at first startled
then she
approached Ami again.
"Why do you torture yourself?" She bluntly asked.
"I'm not one of you anymore, I'm just a..." she struggled for a
word. "I'm just a normal person." She didn't look at Usagi, just
stared
straight ahead at the window.
"You have always been one of us," Usagi grabbed Ami's shoulder and
turned her towards herself. "Look at me." Usagi peered into Ami's
eyes as
if looking into her soul. "You have been a friend of my since the
beginning,
you were the first real Sailor Scout." Ami shivered at the word and
pulled
herself away from Usagi. Usagi could feel the terror emanating from
Ami.
"You can't shut it out of your life! You were a Sailor Scout, you
were a
defender of Tokyo." This time Usagi walked in front of Ami. "And you
have
been and always will be a friend of mine."
"You have no idea what I lost with my powers! You can't understand
what it's like to lose something so important to your life that you
would
sell your soul to get it back!" Ami didn't turn away this time, but
confronted Usagi.
"Yes," Usagi said in a matter of fact way. "I do know what it's
like." She paused for a moment. "Its how I felt when you left us."
Ami
continued staring into Usagi's face. "Its how I felt each time we
fought
without you, when I needed you at my side to be my comfort. And I
felt it
when you were about to head for Germany, way back when we were
fighting the
Dark Moon."
Ami was upset still, she couldn't find comfort. "I lost more than
friends that day." Ami turned, and looked at the floor, still covered
in
the rainbow of colors from the glass figurine. "I lost my innocence.
 I
realized what had really happened to me during those hard years. The
loss
of a life for something I couldn't even have anymore. I couldn't even
find
Greg, I lost everything."
Usagi was beginning to get the gist of it all. She couldn't turn
back time so she could do it again, and even if she could she was
sure that
Ami would make the same decisions. She was a Sailor Scout, if not by
destiny,
or blood, or family, but by actions, and feeling, and behavior. To
lose
the good things along with the bad was not Ami, at least not the one
she
knew a few years ago.
Usagi gently raised her hand to Ami's face and brushed it across
her cheek. She was crying, her emotions had always been clear as day.
"You," Usagi whispered. "Are a Sailor Scout. It rings in your own
being,
and your heart screams it every night. You cannot be happy when you
are
not, and will never be content unless you become one again." And
then,
Usagi did something Ami would never think she would ever do.
She kissed Ami. A deep long kiss, not with a crazy lust, but with
passion, with a friend she wished had never left. In that one moment,
Ami
let herself go. She forgot her troubles, and hoped for her past. She
allowed
her emotions to feel again, reactivate feelings she thought she lost
forever. She felt young again. When Usagi's lips left hers she felt
different, as if a shroud of burden had been lifted from herself.
Usagi whispered in Ami's ear again. "And if you don't believe me,
cry out with every last bit of your humanity, with every soul you
were glad
you saved, and tell me what you have been waiting to say for years."
Ami looked at Usagi, still a bit shaken from what she just did,
and instead peered into her soul. She reached down a grabbed Usagi's
hand
and held it tight. Ami opened her mouth slightly, and readied to
chant two
words she had not the privilege of saying in a very long time.
Looking
deeply into Usagi's eyes, she began.
"Mercury..." Ami's words echoed with Usagi's though the whole
room. The Stained glass window shook from a sudden change in the wind
outside. The angled glass figurine rattled in its tiny case. Ami felt
a
power growing inside of her that was pure pleasure mixed with high
adrenaline. The last word came out effortlessly, but seem to echo
forever.
"Power!" The window shattered into a million fragments of light,
and Ami found herself lifting off the floor and pulling Usagi with
her.
>From the window, tiny will o' wisps flew in glowing with the deepest
blue.
They circled the two women and left blue stripes behind them. Ami
felt her
body shimmer away into pure energy, and a crystal cocoon surround
her.
Usagi gently lowered herself to the floor and watched the spectacle
about
to happen.
Ami's body was changing, she left the shaken, old shell she wore
before and molded a new person. Like a butterfly just before leaving
its
shell, she could leave all she worried about behind and take on a new
life,
a new person. The crystal shimmered and shattered leaving tiny points
of
light scattered about the room.
Where the crystal was, floated a person. She had the same
eyes,
hair, general look upon her face. But her outfit had changed, not to
the
infamous Sailor Fuku she had adorned all those years back. But a new
outfit,
a bluish-gray dress with golden accents. She touched the ground with
a
clicks of her high heels, not a new person on the outside. But a
better
person on the inside.
Ami rushed over to Usagi, and hugged her warmly, she had a
smile
on her face that Usagi knew she had not worn lately. She was happy
for the
first time in a long time. She then stepped back a step and spoke.
"How?"
was the word, in a quizzical voice.
"You never lost the power," Usagi answered. "You just lost the will,
I remember how you looked up there, three years ago. You were so
afraid, so
full of questions, your only wish was to survive to live another day,
because there was so much more you wanted to do in life. But the
flourish
you need the other part of yourself, the part you left behind up
there, in
our upper atmosphere."
"I never thought I would... I mean I never would have guessed... oh
I'm so sorry to have deserted you! I didn't want to hurt you all, I
just
wanted to keep you from..." But Ami knew that it wasn't true. "What
can I
do to make it up to you?"
Usagi quickly answered, "Don't. Just come see my wedding, talk to
friends you left long ago, and see my husband. I know he would love
to see
you."
"Okay, I'll stick around, maybe even move back here to Tokyo." Ami
just had to hug Usagi again to have given back her power, her life.
Usagi
kept on smiling, and turned towards the door. Ami looked on the floor
at the
shattered pieces of what was once Serenity, the mother goddess.
"Oh Ami," Usagi called from behind her back. "I invited Urawa.
I hear he's still single..." She grinned like a devil, the old
matchmaker
Usagi. She'll never quit.
