Ooops!! Looks like I made a mistake there. Sorry about giving the wrong one
there. here's chapter 15. The _one_ I was supposed to send..
============================
Ok, folks! Here it is! Up for grabs!
I just finished this part and hopefully I don't have to do anything
too major in terms of changes. Anyway, whatever it is you guys/gals may
think of this one, send away.
C&C is most definitely required here!!! I want my fic to get feedback!!!
Chapter Fifteen: No Need For Complications!
"So, is she gonna live or what?" she asked curiously. Somehow, by the sound
of her voice, one can observed that said woman doesn’t actually give a damn
about it. Or perhaps she’s just bored and therefore unable to sympathize
with the unconscious Jane Doe they had in their hands.
WHACK!!!
The woman swore.
"Jeez!!!" the woman cried out as she rubbed her sore head. "Can’t you even
take one stupid joke!!" she asked indignantly to the one responsible for
hitting her on the head. She was still trying very heard not to hit back.
"Hmp! Serves you right, Ryoko!" another feminine voice declared righteously.
Someone entered the room. She took little or no notice at all of the two
who were arduously trying to tear each other limb from limb. Both females
glanced the one who just entered before proceeding to tear each other apart
once more. Said person shrugged; wondering just when the two would stop
acting like children.
"Hiya there, Mihoshi!!" another feminine voice greeted her from somewhere
up above the large room that she lovingly called a lab. "Done yet with
whatever it was the Galaxy Police Commander wanted you to do?" she asked.
Mihoshi blinked. Her cute eyes making those kawaii noises many people fall
for. Mihoshi gave her best kawaii look of utter brainlessness.
<Note: Although some people *still* think it’s all an act. Go figure.>
She certainly did accomplish what her commander had set her out to do!
Although, if she recalled correctly, she also succeeded in nearly turning
the planet into stellar dust. Of course, she could easily attribute it to
the bad guys since he was the one who stumbled right smack into the
auto-destruct control board. Lucky for her she managed to trip on those
weird wires when she was running for dear life!
If it weren’t for that…..well……
"Oh yeah, she did it alright! She nearly blew up the planet too!!" yelled
an indignant Kiyone who marched purposefully into the lab; dripping wet. Her
voice dripped with sarcasm. Mihoshi still remained her ever cheerful self.
"Argh!! I hate being wet!!!" complained an irritated Kiyone.
Washuu stifled a chuckle. Not a thing to do considering present circumstances.
>From what the officials could find; someone managed to disconnect the flux
coils from the primary gravity core. She _did not_ want to know *how* that
just happened. No one could _ever_ get lost inside an artificial planet’s
gravity control center. In fact, there was no way inside of it unless one
happened to be a droid!
A heavy gravity maintenance droid.
It just wasn’t possible!
"Oh, hello there, Kiy-chan!" greeted Mihoshi in her usual offhand manner.
Washuu gave a small smile. She was ever the more puzzled over how ungodly
lucky Mihoshi was. And _even_ she’s reached a point wherein it was better to
have given up rather than try to come up with some sort of reasonable
explanation for it.
Mihoshi was just…..well…. Mihoshi.
You don’t get much worse than that.
Hopefully….
Washuu watched Mihoshi’s partner as she underwent several shades of rage
red. She could practically hear Kiyone quiver in suppressed anger -- or was
it exasperation? -- from here.
It took a while for Kiyone to calm herself down enough not to kill her
partner for the nth time this month. "Next time you park the damned shuttle,
let me do it! OKAY?!!’ she yelled at Mihoshi, who had her thoughts on
something else. "Of all the stupid places to land…." This she muttered to
herself though.
No answer was forthcoming. Like she wasn’t expecting *THAT!*
Kiyone sighed; wondering just what sin could she have caused in her past
life that she had to be rewarded with a life as miserable as this. Not that
there were times when she enjoyed it. But that wasn’t the issue here!! Now,
Tenchi; however…..
"WHAT!!!" an enraged voice cried shrilly. "How dare you!!!!"
"Say what, princess?" a mildly amused voice asked.
Washuu hoped down from the chair and landed softly on the floor. She
quickly marched towards the fight that had erupted nearby. She cleared her
throat a couple of times before it became quite evident both were too
engaged in their normal pasttime. Having had enough, she snapped her
fingers; causing both combatants to disappear form sight.
Kiyone blinked. Mihoshi burst out laughing and clapping her hands as if it
was some show on Hyper-Cable <Universal Cable! It’s got all the channels
that exists all about the universe!>. Washuu had that pleased expression
written about her face.
Outside, the sun shone brightly. Its rays striking the mirror finish look of
the lake’s surface. The wind blew; yet weak enough not to have affected the
waters of the lake. Perfection would be the only plausible effect this scene
would have to any observer lucky enough to behold it.
Too bad though….
Two very surprised females appeared a goodly bit above the lake.
A few seconds later…
Both landed – crashed – into the lake where Washuu had sent them to cool
off. Washuu hated fights staged in her lab. It took forever to clean up.
Outside was a different matter, though.
Kiyone; meanwhile, had dragged Mihoshi out of the lab before she could touch
anything explosive – no telling what *THAT* could be in Washuu’s lab -- to
discuss a few things.…
Washuu was immensely glad to have her lab to herself once more. She let her
gaze travel once more at the unconscious form of the woman who lay on the
bed. There was little signs of the wounds that the woman had all about her
when she had arrived. Even with the dangers past, she still unsure if it was
safe to move her anywhere. This forced her to put up with having some
company down here. Hopefully, she’d be well enough to move once she woke up.
Two people in here was crowd enough for her!
She let out a tired breath; hating mysteries like this one. Who or where the
woman came from was a mystery. The wounds inflicted on her was enough to
have killed just about anyone. And yet, why was this woman even alive.
Then, there was that strange gem embedded in her collarbone. Computer
analysis revealed nothing – much to her annoyance. And with her under a
coma, it was going to be a while before she could get some answers from her.
A big enigma indeed.
She cocked her head to one side. She heard Sasami’s voice holler at
everyone to gather around the table. She had to admit the kid’s got a loud
voice. Her external mics had picked it up all the way from the kitchen. She
smiled. No doubt her daughter and the princess were still at it. She wasn’t
worried as she stepped inside the maglift. The call to lunch usually quelled
all fights in a hurry.
Well, things down here would just have to wait then. There were more
important things to attend to right now.
* * * * *
Midnight. A time when all of Nerima’s people could hope of experiencing a
quiet night. Not a soul stirred in their beds. The moon hung over Nerima
like a silent, celestial observant. The stars blanketed the velvety sky with
their individual brilliance.
The sky was cloudless allowing the moon and the stars to light the heavens
with all their glory. And there, up on one particular roof not far form the
dojo, lay the Mistress of Time.
She was *NOT* in the mood to enjoy the scenery.
Setsuna sighed as she set her gaze upon the moon. She could feel Serenity’s
touch in her grow ever stronger now that she had given the amulet to Chibi.
She bit back tears of despair that threatened to overwhelm her. She gripped
her staff in her hands as if it could help galvanize her crumbling will. She
could do little but wait. This had to be done. There was no other way out.
She just hoped Chibi was strong enough to do it.
Time would tell who would be the victor. It always did.
"Chibi…."
* * * * *
There were times in her young, near-immortal life that Sayoko had often
wondered just what it really was she was fighting for. But now that she had
found the answer, she didn’t know what to do with it.
For so long had her beloved elder sister kept her existence to Neo-Queen
Serenity a secret. It was only now that she understood why. Right now, she
didn’t want to even think as to the underlying reasons for it. Just the
thought of it evoked something akin to revulsion. Revulsion for the
knowledge that her sister actually knew about it all…..
And in a way, she was awed at the courage her sister showed. There were
times when there _was_ wisdom in the old adage: ‘Ignorance is bliss.’
But she believed – tried to believe -- that perhaps what Setsuna had done
had been right. After all, it helped her didn’t it. From what she could
gather, the link that all the Senshis had to Serenity was responsible for
what happened to them.
And if she had one then…
She let out a weary breath. No use thinking about the past like that. She
now had a duty to her future sovereign now.
Sayoko glanced at the sleeping form of the Child Princess her sister
expected of her to protect and guide now. With Radler was gone; her sister
told her that Chibi needed everyone’s support to pull through this
depression. Chibi cared very much about Radler. Being the only one around to
bring her up all these years. And losing him after all this time reminded
her too much about the loss of her own parents.
Chibi was tossing all about, dreaming no doubt. Her abilities to see a
person’s potential proved why the Shadow Moon was trying so very, very hard
to kill and her. The child’s aura was definitely a lot different from anyone
else’s. And that was not because she was Neo-Queen Serenity’s child.
No! She had a feeling it wasn’t because of that.
Then, there was that small matter of Ranma’s little sister. She too
radiated the same power as Chibi did. But it was hidden away. Tucked deep
inside her that even she had difficulty sensing. She wondered if her sister
or that woman Ifurita has seen anything.
She shook her head. They would see it!! No doubt about that! She was sure of
it! Just as she was sure that they were all playing some sort of odd game of
hide and seek with the bad guys. They’d come. Sooner or later they would.
Yet, something about the girl kept tugging in her mind. Something about her
was strange…..
"Stranger than men changing gender with water." She thought aloud, an amused
expression on her face.
Unable to sleep, she got up and left the room, careful not to disturb the
kid. Outside, she concentrated a bit as she wove a slight spell on the room.
IT would help the child sleep a lot less fitfully.
She sighed and disappeared.
The Moon.
So many legends have been described of its magnificence and told tales of
how it had fallen from grace so many eons ago. So many tales. All told the
very same thing even if today’s humans forgot the reasons for these. The
tales itself – if one bothered to actually put together – would tell the
tragedy of the life of the long forgotten Silver Millennium.
And here she was now. Up on the moon; sustained by a force bubble around
herself. Here was where the Moon Kingdom had once stood. A proud bastion of
humanity. A monument attesting to the power that humans possessed within
them. Back then, peace and tranquillity took the form of Serenity.
The Queen of all.
Sayoko stared sadly up from the rim of the crater to stare at the
blue-white disk that was the Earth. A world scarred for countless eons by
the very people it had spawned and nurtured.
Her gaze settled back to stare at the crater before her. The whole place was
filled with millennia upon millennia of dust. In here had once resided the
palatial adobe of the old Queen Serenity, ruler of the Silver Millennium.
There were still enough evidences of that; left undisturbed by humans even
during the times they had set foot on this moon. There lay the scattered
remains of fluted columns and pillars that had once been part of the Moon
Palace. She remembered it quite well; having lived during that time.
But that time was long past. One that she tried to forget.
She gazed at the Earth with regret. She often wondered just how these
people were going to destroy themselves. She knew Serenity saved the world
sometime in the future. But what could have caused these people to try and
kill one another? The answers were varied. But all things went back to a
certain human frailty called emotions.
It was both an asset and a liability of human beings like herself. But it
was one that set them apart from any other.
She took one last look of the place before she opened a portal back to the
house.
Sayoko knew that if there was any way that they would win against the might
of the Shadow Moon. It all lay in the hands of the Child Princess. And part
of that chance lay on all of them helping her out all the way.
And yes, there was that too.
Emotions. It was a key. A valuable one if only they knew how to use it.
* * * * *
She woke up feeling like the weight of the world rested upon her shoulders.
She smirked. In a way, it was. The pain she felt coursing through her body
was a testament that she was still alive – at the very least. At worst, she
was alive and in trouble. She raised one slim hand to her temples; wishing
it would stop throbbing like that. She also began to briefly recall the
dreams she had…
Definitely strange. It felt so much like relieving much of a past she had
chosen to forget. She recalled the dreams she had back then. Come to think
of it, she seemed to remember them better now. The memories of it came a lot
clearer to her now than the fragments she could recall before.
She opened her eyes once more.
It took a while before she could adjust to the light that streamed into her
eyes. She blinked. The sparkling dots that played around in her eyes slowly
disappearing. She glanced around her surrounding, the glare of the overhead
lights blinding her a bit. She breathed a sigh of relief. At the very least,
she wasn’t a prisoner. And from the way her body rub against the sheets, she
was doubtless naked under it. The place didn’t look much like any dungeon
she had the luxury of being in before. Unless, of course, Serenity decided
to head a major restructuring works on them to make prisoners feel more at
home.
She gulped. From the looks of the place, it resembled Ami-chan’s research
lab back at the palace more and more now that she could see better.
Definitely somewhere she’d rather not be right now -- not with all those
rumors about experiments Ami conducted in her lab these days.
At least she wasn’t tied up. Fat chance she could do anything anyway! Her
body felt like lead and it refused to cooperate with her orders. If any of
the Guardian Sisters were to see her now…
She suddenly remembered something else. Something very important to shadow
the possible dangers of her present dilemma…
Reimi….
"Glad to see you’re awake now, my dear." Someone from behind spoke to her,
interrupting her train of thoughts.
Her head turned around to face a woman wearing a lab coat and glasses
staring at her. She had long red hair which was done in a ponytail that
reached down to the floor. She looked pretty young; but she knew that to
base a person’s age with one’s looks was quite misleading.
So, she did the only thing a person in her position would do.
"Who the heck are you?" she asked.
"It’ll be better if you start with telling *me* who you are, dear." The
red-head stranger told her, pushing her reading glass up a bit. "You’ve been
under a coma for quite some time."
"How long?"
She tapped a finger to her chin a few times before answering. "Ahmm… About
a month or so. Enough time for me to fix you up as best as I could. You
really should try and not get yourself into whatever scrapes you got
yourself in. You almost died you know. Very surprising that you survived
this long considering the condition we found you in."
"What does that mean?" she asked, confused.
"Dying would not even begin to describe it, young lady." Tia blinked, one
hand passing pressed to her chest. Her mind had yet to take note of the
small oval gem that lay there. The red head continued with her explanations.
"I did what I could to help out. But you could thank your body’s healing
ability. Without it, I don’t think you could have survived that long."
"Tia."
"Huh?! Excuse me?"
"The name’s Tia." she answered.
"By the way, the name’s Washuu. Little Washuu." Washuu said almost absently
from her terminal beside her.
"Uh-huh." Tia replied, unsure of what to make of the woman who called
herself Washuu or Little Washuu as she seemed to like being called. Not that
it didn’t fit.
Washuu turned her attention to her guest once more.
"Well, Tia, could you enlighten me to as how you got here? No one usually
drops by on me without my knowledge. But you seemed to have broken through
every security measures I put up around my lab from unwanted guests."
*Considering there was only one person in the whole universe who could
successfully do that no matter what measures I take.* she thought to herself.
"Uh…. Well…. You see…."
"Yes?" Washuu pressed, eager to find out.
"Ihavenoidea." Tia replied in a rush.
Washuu went crashing down on the floor.
"Something I said?" she asked innocently.
Washuu pulled herself together and quickly went to the work console and
grabbed the scanner that she had just finished calibrating – not to mention
hyper-inventing for the past few days. After nearly a week of trial and
error, she hoped this *new* scanner would gather the data she needed from
Tia. She was curious as hell as to who or what this woman was.
She turned around and saw that Tia had stood up and was busily wrapping the
covers around her naked self.
"You really should try and conserve what strength you have there, Tia."
Washuu reprimanded, holding up the scanner. "You’ve got a looong way before
you even fully recover from your wounds. You may look fine but your body’s
still repairing the damages. I’ve done what I can to speed up the process.
And unless your healing capabilities are more formidable than I first
thought, then it would yet be another month for a full recovery."
Tia’s face masked her distress quite well. She’d lived in a time where
trust was a liability and friendship even more. But somehow, she trusted
this woman. And she knew Washuu was right. Cripes! Even standing still was
fast becoming a chore. And it took all her concentration to stave off the
spasms that continually wracked her tired body. She laid one hand on the
edge of the bed, trying to gain the support she so needed.
"You okay?" Washuu asked worriedly. "I really suggest you get back on that
bed before you collapse."
Tia gave a weak nod and climbed laboriously back up on the bed. Washuu
helped her back up and tucked the sheets around the pale young woman. Tia
smiled; remembering a time in her mixed life of the mothers she never had.
"Thanks."
"No problem. Once you’re up to it, we can move you to a room. Sleeping in
here is not what I’d call conducive to healing. After all, we DO have lots
of space to spare. Anyway, the only thing you’ll have to bear around here
during your stay would be the ruckus the others normally make."
"Why is that, Washuu?" she wanted to know.
Washuu gave her a small smile. "You’ll figure it out sooner or later. After
all, you’ll be staying with us for quite some time."
"No. I mean why didn’t you try moving me. I mean, this place looks very
much like a lab. No place to let a patient rest."
Washuu chuckled in her own unusual way. "Well, to tell you the truth, I had
little choice in the matter. You see, when you appeared, my first thought
was that you were already dead. I mean, not many people, including my
worthless daughter, could live through what you have. I was very much
surprised back then that you were still alive – if barely hanging on. I
couldn’t move you. Too much of a risk."
"How long was I hanging by the thread?"
Washuu snorted. "Long enough to make me nervous, my dear. You were pretty
badly hurt." *And I still think you shouldn’t have survived even with your
accelerated healing abilities.* she thought to herself. "And besides, by the
time your condition stabilized, I wasn’t so sure that bringing you out of
here would help."
"Why is that?" she asked.
An explosion somewhere above gave away the answer.
"Ah.." Tia smiled back. "Thank you very much, Washuu. I don’t know what to
say."
She waved her thanks off. "No problem. I try to do a good deed every so
often. Besides, you intrigue me."
Tia blinked. Somehow, she almost felt like she was back home in the palace.
Almost.
* * * * *
Tia woke up feeling much better rested than she ever did in a thousand
years. Stretching taunt muscles, she got out of bed and dressed. She looked
at the mirror beside and bed and idly wondered just when was she going to
tell these people about a particular curse she had. It didn’t help to tell
them that three weeks ago since her body had not changed when she had doused
herself one time with hot water. She was worried – very much, indeed - when
it happened. Right now, she still could not change.
She sighed. She knew full well just how bad off she was right now. With
little power to even speak off, she could not chance looking for Ranma and
the others back in Nerima. Tia gasped as a loud explosion reverberated
throughout the house. In spite of herself, Tia could not help but giggle.
Yep! This household was very much like the last one.
This_ one_ had its own weirdness attached to them as well.
Finally finished with her usual morning chores, she went down to the living
room where most of the household were patiently waiting for someone. A door
opened to admit two rather scorched and wet individuals.
Tia winced.
This was certainly one of those days.
"Hi there!" she greeted everyone rather cheerfully.
Sasami, the unspoken caretaker of the Masaki family and its guests, turned
around to wave cheerfully to her. A wavy blonde looked up from the manual
she was reading to smile at her. Tia smiled back and went to sit next to
Kiyone. In her opinion, the only one around the house sane enough to be
with. This *always* excluded Sasami as she resembled Kasumi too much to
make a decent assumption.
Washuu came out of her cubby hole underneath the stairs to stare at the
delights spread before the table. She laughed a bit and commented on how
much of a help she was around here. The *true* meaning of her words did not
escape those who sat before the table. Everyone had a large sweat drop
behind their heads as they tried to proceed through breakfast with the least
amount of trouble.
Having women like what Tenchi had staying under this house delivered trouble
all on its own. She noted that trouble seemed to have set up shop here just
as firmly as it had in Nerima. Everyone here tried hard to avoid attracting
too much of it. There was certainly enough of those these days without going
to try looking for one.
Some things still disturbed her pretty much. But she knew better than to
give voice to them. She glanced at the lake where the sun’s rays danced
among the waves the light summer wind conjured up. The waters sparkled with
thousands of colors. She smiled and continued to eat what was left of
breakfast. Spooning the last of the rice into her mouth, she looked up to
see Washuu staring intently at her for some reason. She lowered her gaze
somewhat and found the object of Washuu’s scrutiny.
The gem on her collarbone.
Tia blinked. "Find anything interesting to look at, Washuu?" she asked,
half-jokingly
Washuu merely gave her one of her patented
enigmatic-smiles-only-a-SCIENTIST-would do smile. "Down in my lab after
lunch. Be there."
"What for?" She really did not want to know.
"You’ll see.."
Tia grumbled something incoherent before she returned to her unfinished meal.
* * * * *
Tia knocked on the door underneath the stairs. She was still very much
impressed with the level of technology Washuu had in and around the house.
Even her knowledge of mecha-engineering and sciences, it paled to what
Washuu knew or had lying around in her lab. The door’s portal opened and she
stepped through with the slightest bit of hesitation.
*One* did not go in Washuu’s lab unless something dire needed her immediate
attention. Or when faced with little choice. Or unless someone went to the
trouble of calling for her when the meals were served.
The portal transported her into a pocket dimension Washuu had opened up
underneath the stairs for her lab/home. The whole place was quite big.
Bigger than anything around in this era. She looked around for Washuu and
found her sitting contentedly on her floating pillow; toying with a small
sphere.
Tia approached the scientist with nervous steps.
"So… uh… what was it you want to talk about…." she managed to ask. She
could not help feel rather a bit edgy.
Washuu tossed her the thing she had been playing with. Reacting under pure
instinct, she caught it in her hands. What she did not expect was for it to
suddenly glow. Tia yelled when the light suddenly turned to heat. She let go
of the sphere, fanning her hands in the air in a vain attempt to cool it off.
Washuu smirked. She had been expecting that. Genius and half-mad scientist
that she was, she had been unable to crack the codes of the crystal.
Suspecting someone had woven some sort of unseen spell around it, she played
her suspicion and found out she had been right. The sphere was attuned to
Tia’s signature.
Now, to sit back and find out why..
Tia glared at Washuu for a brief instant before returning her attention to
the pulsating sphere that floated She was very surprised with what happened
next.
The crystal emitted a brief flash of light, enough to blind anyone nearby
with its intensity. The glare receded, replaced by a rainbow luminescence
that lit up the room with its light. Both squinted a bit as their eyes
adjusted to the light.
Tia gasped. Washuu remained cool and aloft.
A tall, regal figure dressed in a flowing white gown floated before them;
surrounded by a rainbow luminescence.
Neo-Queen Serenity.
Tia stared at the image; unable to speak. Even with the knowledge that this
was nothing more than a holo; it was hard not to stand there in awe of the
aura of calm Serenity’s image projected. A far cry from the one she
projected these days.
Washuu, for her part, could not help stare in total fascination at the image
of the woman she now beheld before her. She’d never met anyone who projected
that feeling in such a long time. Not even Tsunami could do that! She
wondered what was keeping her from not flinging herself before the woman’s
image in abject adoration. She grinned, something she learned to do in her
stay here on Earth. Some people just have it, she guessed.
The image of the woman stared at Tia for quite some time. Washuu could not
help shrug off the feeling that the image was alive somehow.
"If you are now viewing this, Radler, then I can only assume that what
Setsuna had foretold came to pass." Serenity’s smile disappeared; her face
serious and impassive. "I wish things could have been different but I knew
it had to come sooner or later. It then falls to you to make certain my
daughter survives until the Age of Ascension. It will be a great
undertaking; even for one as you. But I am certain you will do what needs to
be done." She paused.
Something shimmered into being in front of him. It was a staff, very much
akin to the one Setsuna used save this one was worked in platinum and had a
silver sword blade where the spear head should be.
"To this regard; I now hand to you my final gift, Radler. This staff
contains the essences of the powers that the Outer Senshi have access to.
Use it; for only the heavens know of the enemies you will face. You may very
well need the added power." The image sighed; her eyes shimmering with
tears. Tia felt her heart shatter upon seeing this.
To see Serenity cry….
"I know what is happening to me. Doubtless you do to; even if it is only in
your subconscious mind. Trust no one save for yourself and others who are
not Senshi. It shames me to admit my weakness, young one. But it is
something that I must now live with. I have been a fool to think my family
and my Kingdom would be secure." She saw Serenity’s eyes filled with a sort
of hopelessness she never dreamed to see in her eyes. "I have let myself be
seduced by the Darkness. And I feel its power surging within me; growing and
changing me." She paused once more. By that time; Tia was close to losing it
– BIG TIME!! "I will do what I must. Protect my daughter, Radler. For in
you, I see the pillar that which my daughter can take hold off in the times
to come. Protect her and care for her. I would gladly lose everything to see
my daughter safe." The image of Serenity gazed at her with sorrow-filled
eyes. "Radler, be safe. Forgive me for all that I had done in the past. Know
that what I did to you was necessary. Had I not perhaps…." Serenity averted
her gaze. "No…. what has happened had to be done. For you and for my
daughter. I'm sorry….. for all that had been done to you….."
Tia felt her legs give way underneath her.
