Alright - this is becoming pure unadulterated spam. And I'm not exactly
enjoying the process of downloading extraneous messages like this. Anyway,
Damon Casale is right. If you look at an airline's map of routes, you will
notice that the lines where their planes travel are drawn in curves. If
those lines were straight, then the plane would actually be travelling
further than necessary - gravity tends to do that. Likewise, the same
principle applies when light is bent around a large object like a planet.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get back to downloading actual
fanfics.

Just imagine the earth as a two dimensional, spacially curved plane, and
