Remember that in 90% of the world (almost everywhere except in the US,
Canada and Australia) the term Football means the game of Soccer.

Righty-o, you win the cookie. That's precisely what I had in mind. In fact, I
had a footnote to that effect but it disappeared from the text somewhere along
the way. I'll add it to the revision. Or, perhaps I'll just change the text to
read baseball, which I hear is very popular in Japan. 

Does anyone know what sport actually is the most popular in Japan at the
moment?
