CHAPTER 3: FINALLY, SOME ANSWERS
**********************************************************************
******
The sun had been up on the Home for hours, but none of the Sailor
Senshi had noticed. Several hour earlier, after the bombshell had
been dropped as to their location, they had asked for information
about the place they were in. Blade had asked Riki to lead them to
the Family Library, and also added in a whisper, "By the way Riki. I
need you to check something out for me. I'd do it myself but I've
got to go up on the wall now."
"What?" Riki asked back.
Blade told him what he was searching for and then Riki lead Minako,
Makoto, Rei, and Ami with the two cats in tow, to the Library. Usagi
elected to stay in the cabin to wait for Mamoru, who had still not
awoken. Now the four Senshi had been searching through the Family
history books, and records of recent events. "Well," Ami finally
spoke up, "I've found some interesting things. How about the rest of
you?"
The other three all nodded affirmitive and Minako said, "Then let's
compare notes, shall we? I'll go first. First of all we already
know we are in a place called the Home. It is a thirty-acre compound,
with high walls on all sides. It was built over 100 years ago to
protect the people called the Family from some sort of catastrophy
called the Big Blast, but I have no idea what that could be, and I
don't know that much of the Family's history."
"I can answer that," Rei picked up, "This place was built by a rich
filmmaker named Kurt Carpenter who was called the Founder. From what
this stuff says, he foresaw the coming of... are you ready for this...
World War III a.k.a. the Big Blast and acording to these records, he
was right."
"WHAT?!?" the other Scouts all cried in unison.
"Wait a minute," Makoto said incredulously, "Are you saying we're in
some sort of parallel universe?"
"No," Rei replied, "We are in the future. Over 100 years to be more
precise. It was a nucular war that devistated the world," Rei
continued with her explination, "The Family is one of the few pockets
of civilization left. Most of the rest of the world has devolved
back into more primitive society."
"I can take over from here," Ami cut in, "The Family isn't alone
though. As far as I can tell, there are other civilized areas in
what's left of America. Some of them are good, some of them are bad.
The good guys, a group of people in the Twin Cities called the Clan.
Another group of people in an underground complex also in Minnesota
called the Moles. The Civilized Zone, which is the remains of the
old American government with its capital in Denver, Colorado. The
state of California, which was able to keep its government. The
Cavalry, a group of horsemen based in South Dakota and finally the
Flathead Indians in Montanna. These people along with the Family
have banded together in a group called the Freedom Federation.
"As for the bad guys, there's a group in Chicago called the Technics,
a bunch of technological experts. In Houston, Texas we've got a
group called the Supiriors, who are androids of incredible power.
Another group is called the Dragons who reside in Florida. They have
legalized all drugs and are very ruthless with the area under their
control. Also believe it or not, there are the Russian Communists,
who control almost all the upper half of the eastern United States."
"That proves we're in a parallel universe," Makoto suddenly said,
"The Comunists are no longer in power in our world."
"No," Ami continued, "According to these books the Communists seized
power again a few months before World War III broke out. By the way
Makoto what did you find?"
Makoto stretched out her legs and supressed a yawn as she said,
"Well I found out some stuff on the Family itself. I learned that
our Mr. Carpenter aparently hated formality on a grand scale. There
for, he made it where you could have only one name with no family
name, and he started a tradition called 'Nameing'. At age sixteen, a
Family members is encouraged to look through the books in this
library and choose any name from them to take as his or her own. The
reason for it was something about not loosing touch with the past.
Also everybody has a title from Warrior, to Healer, to Tiller, to
Elder, ect, ect, ect. None of them are in anyway supirior to the
others except for the Leader, and in times of crisis the head of the
Warriors, that's the big, hunky, guy we saw before, can take over
command until the trouble's over."
The others were still digesting the middle part of Makotos last
sentence. "'Big, hunky guy'?", Rei asked scepticly, "You mean Blade?
"
Makoto nodded and Minako quipped, "Let me guess, he looks like your
old boyfriend."
Makoto shook her head and replied, "No way! Blade is much cooler
looking."
Ami spoke up, "We're getting off track here. Anyway, while this
information does help us with where we are, the main questions that
still needs to be answered is how we got here and why?"
"The first part's easy," Rei said in a cold tone, "Sailor Pluto and
that creep in the black cloak did it. As for why though, I'm as
stuck as the rest of you."
In a place a little off the center of time........
"'Creep in the black cloak?'" Timiand said to the image he was
watching, "I don't think so. If only you knew that what we did is
going to help save your worlds very existance, you wouldn't call me
things like that."
"But she doesn't," Sailor Pluto replied, "So her, and the others,
opinion of you and I is understandibly low."
"Be that as it may. We have to get ready to make our introductions,
so that when they do see us, they don't try to turn us into little
puddles of mushy, red stuff."
Setsuna had a sudden thought, "Wait a minute! (no pun intended)
What about Mamoru?"
"What about him?"
"He hasn't woken up yet."
Timeiand suddenly started to sweat and he said in a hushed whisper,
"Uh, oh."
Back in the infermary............
Usagi held Mamorus hand in hers tightly and watched him for any sign
of life. She watched his chest move up and down in time with his
breathing, but there was no other movement. Usagi started to cry
softly and she was barly able to get out a whispered, "Oh Mamo-chan.
Don't scare me like this. Please wake up, please."
Jenny had just finished tending a small boy who had a large gash on
his arm from falling out of a tree. Jenny disinfected it, bandaged
it, and then said, "Okay, all done. See, that didn't hurt much, now
did it? You were very brave. Now I hope this teaches you to be more
careful when climbing next time."
The boy nodded with a smile and bounced out the door. Jenny then
turned to Usagi and said to her, "How are you?"
Usagi tried to put on a brave face and replied, "I'll be okay."
Jenny knew a lie when she heard one. She could see the tear marks
on Usagis face and the hurt in her eyes. Jenny reached for a
steaming bowl of stew that she had planed to have for breakfast and
handed it to Usagi as she said, "Here. You haven't eaten since you
woke up. You need this more than I do."
"No thanks," Usagi said, "I'm not hungry."
"Whoa," she thought to herself, "Did I say that?"
Jenny adamantly tried to hand the bowl to Usagi again and pleaded,
"Please, you have to eat sometime."
"Well," Usagi said starting to look at the bowl with intrest and her
stomach growled as the scent of the food in the bowl reached her nose,
"if I have to."
Usagi took the bowl and, using the spoon in it, took a bite of a
piece of meat. As she chewed her expresion changed to one of rapture
and she dug into the bowl full force, craming as much of it into her
mouth as fast as she could. She compleatly emptied the bowl in the
span of twelve seconds, and she asked, "Could I have some more please?
" she sheepishly added, "I guess I was more hungry than I thought."
Jenny smiled a warm understanding smile, with another bowl all ready
prepaired and said, "Sure, here you go."
Usagi drained that bowl even faster and covered her mouth as a small
burp escaped her lips. She then looked up at Jenny in apreciacion
and said, "Thank you," then she looked at Mamoru for a second, turned
back to Jenny and said, "I think I'll go for a walk. I need to clear
my head and some fresh air might do the trick. Could you give me the
layout of this place so I don't get lost?"
Jenny nodded and said, "Well the Home is a thirty-acre compound,
with the western half left to grow wild. The middle part a
collection of log cabins for married Family members, and in the
eastern part is several concreate buildings, called Blocks. A Block
is the armory, it contains all of the weapons that the Warriors need,
be it guns, swords, or more exotic weapons, with the amunition to use
it. I don't think you'll find anything interesting to you there.
"One hundred yard northwest is B Block, the domicile for all single
Family members, and probably where you and your friends will be
sleeping tonight. Another hundred yards northwest is where we are
now, C Block. An equal distance to the east is D Block, a workshop
with all sorts of tools. Once again a hundred yards east is E Block,
the Library, the place your friends are at right now. Finally F
Block is a cleared feild where the Tillers can grow crops."
Usagi nodded and said, "The western part sounds good. I think I'll
go there," she got up to leave and at the last second she added, "If
Mamo-chan wakes up before I return, could you come get me?"
Jenny smiled again and said, "Sure."
Usagi beamed and said as she raced out the door, "Thank you, Jen."
A little later in the western area of the Home.......
Usagi looked around in awe at the beutiful display of nature in all
its glory. She saw all sorts of flowers. Daffidils, sunflowers,
even a stray rose or two. The dark red flowers were enough to bring
her mind back to her boyfriend. "Funny," she thought to herself, "I
thought this walk was supposed to cheer me up."
"Well," a low baritone voice said from behind her, "It's nice to see
you finally get out."
Usagi looked around and seeing no one, then looked down and saw a
patch of white moving through the tall reeds of grass. "Hello
Artimis. Why aren't you with Minako and the others?"
"I got bored. There's very little for a cat to do around here. So
I decided to take a look around this place. I have learned one thing
for sure, it's BIG."
Usagi chuckled and answered back, "Yep. It sure is, thirty-acres
worth."
"How did you find out?"
"Jen told me."
Artimis looked confused for a second before he asked, "The woman in
the infermary?"
Usagi nodded and Artimis was about to continue when the brush to
their left started to russle and Artimis lept up on Usagis shoulder,
adhearing to the, "No talking while outsiders are present," rule.
The brush russled some more and Geronimo stepped into view. "Oh," he
said as he spotted Usagi, "Hello there. I was just walking around.
I didn't expect to see anybody else here at this time of the day."
"Hello... Geronimo isn't it?" Usagi replied.
Geronimo nodded and looked around as he asked, "Is there anybody
else here? I thought I heard another voice."
Usagi looked at Artimis and replied, "Nobody here but us kittens."
Geronimo shook his head and muttered to himself, "I have got to
relax more."
At that moment a scream ripped the air. Both the Warrior and Sailor
turned at the sound and raced off in the direction it had come from.
Aritmis jumped off Usagis shoulders and headed towards the Library.
Geronimo reached the front gate and looked up at the rampart to see
Blade tugging at the magazine of his Commando. "Two mutants," Blade
yelled down quickly, "They attacked a group of Tillers. The gun
jammed."
Geronimo nodded on the fly and drew his tomohawk with his right hand
and his Vega automatic pistol with the other. He raced out the gate
and turned to see the scene before him. The two mutants had probably
been black bears, but now they were giant deformed monsters. They
were a lot bigger than an average black bear, probably weighed about
800 lbs. each. They also had several rows of fangs in their mouths,
had eight legs instead of four, their claws were long and hooked, and
they were using them to tear into the defencless group of five
Tillers.
Geronimo let out his war cry, trying to distract the bears and one
of them looked up and stood on its four back legs before dropping
down to all eight and charging. He shot the mutant with the Vega as
soon as the creature began its run. All of his shots hit, sending
spurts of thick, red blood flying from the creatures muzzle, the tip
of its left ear, two of its front legs, two of its back legs, and
three from its back. Geronimo ran out of bullets just as the bear
was about a foot away. He quickly holstered the gun and brought his
tomohawk into play. As he passed the bear he swung with all his
might and the tomohawk cut into the bears head with a sickening
crunch, and proptly stuck.
Geronimo tried to hold on to the weapon but lost his grip and the
bear spun around, with the tomohawk still in its skull. It was also
still alive, and very angry. As Geronimo tried to think of what to
do next, a voice from the direction of the gate cut in with, "Hold it
right there fur face!"
Geronimo whirled and saw that Usagi had stepped out of the Home and
seemed determined to face down the bear. Usagi then went into her
routine as she said, "I am Sailor Moon. The champion of Justice. I
won't allow you to hurt my new friends, and in the name of the Moon.
I'll punish you!!!"
"What do you think you're DOING?!?" Geronimo asked incredulously,
"Are you trying to get yourself killed? Get out of here, I'll handel
this."
"I can take care of myself just fine, thank you."
The mutant meanwhile had decided to go after this new younger, more
suculent target, instead of locking horns with the formidable Warrior
again. With a roar it charged towards Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon was
afraid, but she stood her ground and reached for the tiara on her
forehead.
Geronimo tried his war cry again in hopes of distracting the beast.
However, he got the attention of the other mutant, who decided to
leave the three surviving Tillers alone and growled as it slowly
advanced on him. Geronimo risked a quick glance towards Sailor
Moon/Usagi. He saw the girl take the tiara on her forehead off.
"What does she expect that to do?" he wondered.
He got his answer as the tiara started to glow and turned into a
shining discus, which she threw at the monster with the cry of, "Moon
Tiara ACTION!!!"
The discus cut through the air and the bear. Geronimo was most
suprised however, when instead of the bear falling into two bloody
halves, it was disintigrated into ashes, his tomohawk falling to the
ground. Both him and the bear looked at the girl in supprise as she
caught the discus, turned it back into a tiara and placed it back on
her forehead. Geronimos mouth hung open, and the bear was frozen
because of the shock of loosing its mate. The mutants growl of rage
brought the Warrior back to the present. It was answered by another
growl of, "Get back Geronimo. This one is MINE!!!"
Geronimo and Sailor Moon turned to see Blade walking out of the gate,
a snarl of fury on his face. Blade was one of the most even
tempered of the Warriors, with only perhaps Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and Yama
having cooler heads. However, if anybody, man, woman, or beast tried
to hurt a member of his belovied Family, his temper would explode and
the hurter would become the hurtie. Blade was FURIOUS. His gun had
jammed, he had watched two people under his care die, and that was
much more than enough to made him see red.
He drew both of his Bowies and the bear got up on its four back legs.
Blade charged the mutant with a determination to make this thing
suffer for what it had done. He ducked under the two left upper
claws of the bear and with a slash of his left Bowie, severed them,
along with the rest of the paws from the bears body, quickly followed
by a slash from his right Bowie which took the two upper right paws
off as well.
The bear howeled and reared back in pain. Blade then plunged both
Bowies deep into the monsters chest and twisted them violently. The
bear spit up a mouthful of blood and its eyes slowly started to glaze
over, but Blade wasn't done yet. The head Warrior then wrapped both
arms around the beast and, using his incredible strength, picked the
bear up and squezed it in his vice like grip. The bear was being
crushed by a bearhug, and with a loud series of pops and snaps,
followed by a loud, wet, crunch, the bear slumped over in Blades arms
and died.
Blade pushed the bear in his arms and it fell over backwards onto
the ground. He pulled his Bowies out of the creature and wipped them
clean on its fur. Then, his rage still not spent, he started to kick
the dead bear in the head violently. Geronimo quiped, "I think it's
dead."
Blade managed to calm himself down enough to try coherent words
instead of growling in a few seconds and he looked around. First he
saw the courpse of the creature he had slayed, then the Tillers,
taking the two dead ones back to the Home, and finally he noticed
their strange guest, standing with her arms folded across her chest
and a smug grin creasing her fetures. Something was missing. "Hey
Geronimo," Blade asked, "Where's the other mutant? I was running
down the stairs and didn't see what happened."
"Huh?" was Geronimos only reply. As soon as he had been certain
that the danger had passed, he had let his jaw to drop again in shock
at what he had seen. He shook his head and said, "Oh. Well believe
it or not, she got it." He jerked his thumb at Usagi.
Blade raised a skeptical eyebrow and said, "Your kidding, right?"
Geronimo shook his head. "No. I'm not. It was the weirdest thing
I ever saw in my life. She took that thing on her head and threw it
at the bear. Cut it in two, except the two halves disintigrated.
See my tomohawk."
"Yeah. It's in a pile of ashes."
"That's all that's left of mutant number two."
At that moment the other Senshi ran up to the gate. "O.k." Rei said,
"We're here. Now, where's the trouble?"
"You're too late," Usagi said, not compleatly able to hide the
pleasure in her voice, "I got one and the big guy got the other."
"You got one by yourself?!?"
"Yep," Usagi said and then stuck her tounge out at Rei.
"Hold on a second," Blade said as he walked over to the girls, "How
did you do that?"
"What?" Usagi replied, "The thing with my tiara?"
Blade nodded and the Senshi went into a huddle for a second, before
turning back to the head Warrior and Usagi said, "Well, you did tell
us everything about you and this place... so I guess it's fair if we
tell you about us."
Usagi took a deep breath and continued. "We are a group of Super
Heroines called the Sailor Senshi. We defend the earth from all
sorts of threats."
Usagi pointed to each of her friends in turn, "Ami is Sailor Mercury,
she has the ability to blind her foes, or freeze them solid. Rei is
Sailor Mars, she has the power of fire. Makoto is Sailor Jupiter,
she can call the element of lightning. Minako is Sailor Venus, she
can shoot beams of energy or tie up her foes with an energy chain. I
am Sailor Moon, I am also the leader. I have several abilities, the
first is my tiara. In times of danger I can take it off and turn it
into a discus to throw at my foes. If more power is needed I also
have my scepter. While it can be used like I used it on your friend
when I first woke up, I can also fire a bolt of energy from it.
Finaly, if even more power is needed, I can use the crystal on my
broach to call forth cosmic powers. I don't know all I can do with
the cosmic powers, however I do know that I can use them to heal or
destroy someone."
A snort of disbelief came from behind them and the seven of them
turned to see Hickok, Plato and other various members of the Family
regarding the five children with looks of scepticism. "Now that's a
right fine story," Hickok said uncertainly. He had judged the five
kids as the type who didn't lie but THIS was pretty hard to swallow.
"I recon you don't mind if you show us what your talkin' about, now
would you?"
"Of course not," Usagi said as she nodded at Mercury.
Mercury catching on quick, crossed her arms across her chest and
after concentrating for a second whipped her arms out and cried,
"SHABON SPRAY!!!"
A hail of bubbles shot out from Mercury and enveloped the Family
members. The bubbles turned into a thick mist and the Family started
talking nervously, afraid that something would happen. The mist
cleared and everyone got more nervous as they saw that the five girls
were no longer in the place they had been seconds ago. They all
turned as a chuckling voice said, "Over here."
The Senshi had used the confusion to move around the Family and
stand on a small rise on the ground of the Home a few yards away.
"Hey," Rei shouted back to the Family members, "you wouldn't happen
to have a target range somewhere around here, now would you?"
Several demonstrations and another long explination later.........
Plato was deep in thought about what he had just seen and heard. He
pondered over their guests problem, and he finally said, "Well, all I
can think of for an answer is that, this person in the black cloak,
along with this other 'Senshi' brought you here for some specific
reason. I don't think you were brought here just to be eaten by a
mutate, because the area you landed in was in plain view of our walls,
and easily reached. If they're as powerful as you say they are,
they would have known we were here and sent you to a more deserted
area."
"Now that," a dark rasp said, "is 100% correct. I wanted the Senshi
to meet you. I have need of both of your services."
Everybody turned and saw Timeiand, with Sailor Pluto close behind,
shimmer into view. The Senshi and Warriors all readied themselves.
The Senshi, ready to get even for what happened and to force the two
of their foes to return them home. The Warriors were ready to help
their friends, and to protect their Family and Home, if the two new
visitors turned out to be dangerous.
Timeiand held up his hands and said, "Hold. I have not come to
fight with you. I have come to ask for your help."
"You got a funny way of asking!" Makoto shot back.
Sailor Pluto answered, "I apologize for that. We didn't have enough
time to explain to you at length what we needed you for. You see, we
need both you and the Warriors, to save realities very existance.....
from the menace of the Supiriors."
