Jacques Costeau died today at age 87. I think all of us will mourn his
loss, as we have had his influence in our households since the birth of the
"Nature" type television programming, and probably even before that. He was
a good and intelligent man, and he did much that increased our

served not only people and the creatures of the sea, but also all of this
beautiful blue Earth.

Indeed, whoever didn't dream of undersea adventures after seeing
one of the documentaries or reading one of the books relating his
expeditions.
For once, a man got to be a prophet in his own country.
Commandant Cousteau was, still is, the most popular figure here,
the attendance at the service in Notre Dame should show it.

We'll miss him.
