Who here besides me has noticed that almost every fanfic, ALMOST I
said, has to do with Ranma? Is it just the easiest one to write on, or
just the most well known? I've never done any Ranma fics, and I'd like
to know what's so exciting about them, ne? Anyone like to fill me in?

Well, this has been the situation for a long time. I think it's because it's
one of the easiest worlds to "continue" as the ending was a bit ambiguous,
and also it is an extremely popular series. I have a Ranma 1/2 story too,
a major saga even, but I have been trying to also work on other fanfiction
besides Ranma. For every Ranma chapter I write, I also try to write a
chapter about another series. I have fallen on two of my other favorite
series, Sailormoon and Dragonball, which also gather a lot of fanfiction,
but again this is because a lot of people read the series, and there is
a lot of room for character development because there were a lot of loose
ends. You will also notice several Bubblegum Crisis/Crash/AD Police fanfics
(although not by me) for the same reasons. However, there are a few other
series which I think have excellent fanfic potential, and I thought I
would list them (they again have loose ends):
The Vision of Escaflowne
Mermaid Saga
Record of Lodoss War
Heroic Legend of Arislan
El Hazard
Vampire Princess Miyu
Kimagure Orange Road
Urusei Yatsura
One Pound Gospel
Tenchi Muyo
These are just a few suggestions. I (sorta) challenge everyone who writes
a Ranma chapter to also trying their hand at writing in a different series.
You can start a whole new saga, or you can just write a short story. But
I bet you people WILL read your story because there are a lot of people
who are just sick of Ranma 1/2 fanfics. Good luck, because the most
important thing is writing right? ^_^
