I absolutely agree. I never demanded that everyone like my work. I
immensely enjoyed the debates engendered by "Thy Outward Part". Many
people hated that story and the ones that followed it. That's okay; I
agree that people have the right to not to like my work.
But to have someone say that it *should not have been written*, as
Redneck said when it first came out? That's going too far. That's what
I have a problem with.
Hate my work, go ahead. I can take it. :) But don't try to say that
no one should write works like it, or that it's not valid because it
disagrees with your interpretation of the characters.
Zen and I have had a raging debate for months about Ukyo in his
stories. I don't agree with his interpretations, and we argue about his
characterizations almost constantly. But I *love* reading his work, and
I *don't* think it's an invalid interpretation. Merely different from
my own, that's all.
If Redneck could only come to the same conclusion, and stop putting down
other authors' works because they don't fit *his* interpretation, then
I'd shut up and let him hate me all he wants to. :)
I personally have read very little of his work.
But you have read some, yes? What did you think of it?
