I watch his sleeping form sometimes. I love the way Mitsuru smiles
in his sleep. There are moments when I wonder if he's dreaming of me,
but it's probably farthest from the truth. After all, there are other
girls after him with advantages over me. They're prettier, smarter, and
most importantly, alive.

Invisible tears start to slide down my cheeks at the unfairness
of it all. To only experience love after death, it's like trying to
catch a distant star, so beautiful, but forever out of reach.

I brush a strand of his hair away and give him a kiss before I
leave, wishing that I could feel his warm cheek against my lips.

I then float outside, the heavy storm matching my somber mood.
I walk around for awhile and soon found myself at the edge of a nearby
bridge, the cold, swirling water inviting me to jump.

I am entranced with the distorted view of myself as I rush down
towards the icy liquid, my life flashing before my eyes.

I couldn't help but wonder why it's happening. It isn't like
I'm dying again, afterall. The final image that I see is Mitsuru's
smiling face, and I make a futile wish that for once, his smile would
be directed at me.

As the water permeated every fiber of my being, I find myself
surrounded by a bright light. I stay there for awhile, minutes,
perhaps centuries passed. Time meant nothing to me as I reveled in the
wonderful feeling in my heart.

Too soon, I find the light slowly dissipitate and goosebumps start
to form on my arms from the sudden chill. I feel a hand hit me from
behind and I cry out from the confusion and the pain.

I open my eyes, but everything is just a bright blur as I am
gently dropped on something soft and warm.

I could faintly hear a deep baritone talking and I strain my ears
to hear the end of a conversation.

     "Congratulations Mr. and Mrs.Ikeda, it's a girl."

What was he talking about? Was he talking to Mitsuru?

For a brief moment, my vision clears and I can see him from the
corner of my eyes. He looks a few years older than I remember him but
he is still as handsome as ever.

After exchanging a few more words, his face lights up as he walks
towards me, his eyes full of love. I watch him in anticipation as he
places his face inches from my own.

I stare deeply into his eyes, a strangled cry reaching my throat
as I realize that the love filled eyes were not looking at me like one
would look at a lover.

I want to shout out that this isn't what I want, but I know that
my voice would go unheard. My vision starts to blur again as my eyes
starts to fill with tears, no longer invisible. As he reaches down to
take my hand, I can't help but cry.

                             THE END
