Dear FFML,
  There has been a rather heated discussion about how the Curses of 
Jusenkyo work.
  Takahashisama has left the point of the mechanics upto the gods, and 
simply used it as a plot device. That is Jusenkyo, a Plot Device.
  Personally, if I were to believe in Magic(like it is presented in the 
Ranma 1/2 comics) and Curses(likewise), I would have to say that they 
make no logical sense.
  Take this for example
    FACT: the Curses of Jusenkyo are tenacious.
  If Ranma(cursed to turn into a girl) leaps into the Nannichuan:
    1: he is cured
    2: Nothing
    3: the curse is 'pushed back' (hotwater = girltype, cold=boy)
    4: he turns into a complete hermaphrodite(all possibly organs)
    5: he turns androgenous (loses all organs)
    6: the curse becomes scizoid(randomly hot/cold/boy/girl)
    7: the curse makes him a whole man, but the mind changes
    8: the curse makes him all woman(mind and body)
    9: the curse makes him a girl w/normal Ranma mind
   10: Ranma gets control over the transformation 
   11: There is no particular trigger (happens whenever)
   12: ect. ect. ect.

  I am a really sick S.O.B. I could come up with these _all_ _day_! 
Simply put, Curses do not make sense. If they did, or if you could use 
them against each other, then they would not be _CURSES_, they would be 
inconviniences.
  Be creative people, that is why we write.
