Hmmm, if I can't be productive, I might as well come up with new
ideas to write. :)

Ok, here's the question. Suppose Ranma never really had his "big
bad" father and spent his childhood wandering around Japan, alone?

He'd probably'd have a whole lot less complications in his life. That's for sure
;)

How would you suppose he would be like? Would he be better mannered?

He'd be _totally_ different person IMO. I'm talkin' about in terms of
personality ya bakas ;)
Manners, I would hafta say yes. His father has plenty 'o bad habits, and those
habits most likely rub off on poor Ranma. But if ya eliminate his father, what
bad habits are there to be rubbed off on him, ne?

Be more like Ryoga? Be a practical person? Be more emotional? I

I think he'd be almost exactly like Ryoga. The only difference would be how he
reacts to the fiancee. Rather than become nervous like Ryoga, Ranma would
probably seem rather very shy. Since he has no male role-modle (If one would
_ever_ consider Genma a role-model), where would he learn to act like more
masculine in front of women?
Emotional....not really. He might actually be a very cold person since he's
lived a lonely life, so he wouldn't be used to opening up to people. Since he
always depended on himself, he would also trust very little people. No, I'm not
talkin' about 'little' as in migets ;)

think this is going to be a major part of my next Alternative
Reality, Ranma doesn't have parents and he doesn't have a place to
call home, until of course, a sweet girl takes pity on him and takes
him in.....

I guess this is a digression from the topic but I'm writin' a story similar to
what you have described. It's called 'Ranma's girls'. Although similar, instead,
I went for broke. I had it where Ranma was actually abused _horribly_ by his
father, and he later turns out both emotionally and physically scarred.
Superficially, he seems like the guy any girl wold wanna fall for, but
underneath his exterior, I gave him a whole set of problems that makes fiancees
seem like child's play. Aside from bein' scarred, I also had it where he
developed a sense of self-worthlessness and extreme lack of self-confidence. So
little lack that, his children are the only anchor to him stayin' alive.
Although he STILL has girls fallin' for him, he's very self-conscious of his
physical scars and that prevents him from gettin' close to anyone. I've never
been abused, so I'm not too sure if that's an accurate interpretation...

Well, that's what I have on my mind right now, but I just have a
problem how to characterize Ranma the right way...

The story could easily go the dark path if that's whatcha want. Since there's
been a rise in darkfics, it might be nice to read somethin' happy for a change,
ne ;)
