(Open on a shot of the lunar surface, as stark, patriotic, somewhat 
lonely music swells. The camera pans across a wire supported 
American flag, moves on to the base of an '60s-vintage landing 
craft, and finally moves down to focus on the plaque placed by 
Armstrong.)

(A rumbling is heard.)

Nabiki's Voice Over: (querulous) In space? Rumbling? Someone 
forgot to brush up on basic physics.

(A shadow falls over the plaque, and the camera pans up to show 
an enormous spacecraft lumbering by overhead, heading towards 
earth.)

Ranma's VO: This looks sorta familiar for some reason.

Akane's VO: (thoughtful) You're right. Wasn't this the opening 
scene of some movie?

Ukyo's VO: Yeah, that flick where aliens invade and America saves 
the day while the rest of the world does nothing. Independence 
Day.

Akane's VO: Yeah, that was it. (nervous edge) So why's it being 
used as a teaser?

Ukyo's VO: Dunno. Maybe Ranchan'll get to fight them or something

Ranma's VO: (shakily) Hey, no, no way! What am I supposed to do, 
challenge a three-mile long spaceship to a duel after school?

Ukyo's VO: Well, Tenchi does.

Akane's VO: Maybe it's a fusion, and we're being cast in the roles 
of...

Ranma's VO: (interrupting) Naw, the fic's a sequel to the Varaiyah 
Cycle, remember? Fusion is out.

Nabiki's VO: Maybe they didn't have the budget for an original alien 
spaceship, so they're using a clip.

Shampoo's VO: I would postulate that it is an attempt to induce 
comic foreshadowing by means of a pop cinemagraphic visual 
metaphor.

Kodachi's VO: (kindly) Not yet, dear.

Shampoo's VO: Quite right. Ahem. "Shampoo no understand".

Kodachi's VO: Better.

(The saucer-like atmosphere craft detach from the mothership as 
the ominous music swells.)

Ranma's VO: Man, there better not be any huge alien invasion 
fleets in this fic. 

Akane's VO: (scornfully) What, is the big bad martial artist 
scared?

Ranma's VO: (bluntly) Yes. Opponents that aim for me, I can handle. 
Opponents that aim for my city....

Ukyo's VO: Calm down, Ranchan. If it was anything more than a 
joke, they'd be showing footage of you fighting aliens or 
something.

(The scene cuts to an image of Ranma and another Furinkan 
student in a beat-up car, frantically trying to outrun a plasma 
explosion behind them.)

Ranma's VO: (glumly) I'm doomed.
