First of all, thank you for the reduction of spam we've had. There's been
a real change... we'll just have to make it last. I know many of you have
been curious about the state of the list; again, thanks for being fairly
patient. We've only had four public "test" messages, all of who have been
warned.
I'd also like to point authors and readers towards Mark Doherty's
Fanfic Synopses, available both weekly and on the web. Can't find that one
fic you were looking for? Need an author's email address? Look here before
posting the question to the list, and you'll make things easier on both
yourself and the list. The RAAC arrchive also has a great deal of these
fics, as do the remailer and the Guide To Fanfiction.
On the question of "I was away/unsubbed/in a coma for a day, could someone
please send me everything from..." messages - don't post these. Ask a
friend privately. Better yet, use the FFML Archive; the thing's there for
a reason. These are Evil Spam, and I will come after you if I see them..
Dealing with questions: posting questions for a fic is a sort of low-grade
spam. I really don't mind them much; if you keep it within reasonable
amounts it's cool.
BUT, do try to reply to these via PRIVATE email, people. Let me give you a
recent example:
-----------
On Mon, 26 May 1997, Anthony Woo wrote:
does anyone know how old Kasumi was when her mother died? or is that up
to the author? I need the infor for a fic I'm writing.
Thanx

Akane was six or so so Kasumi was about ten

This is a short, to the point answer consisting of less than a line and
giving no "Creative" or "Interperative" take on the Ranma universe. It is
exactly what Mr. Woo needs for his fic; however, it should NOT have been
sent to the ML. Private mail would have sufficed.
In the future, replies of this type will be treated as annoying spam, and
will up your chances of being warned.
Thank you for your time.
