The Japanese have a tradition called Namahage, it takes place every december 31. 
It is celebrated at the Akagami shrine in Oga Penninsula, Akita prefecture.  It 
is a mix of harvest festival and scaring litte kids(to ensure they behave for 
the next year).  After prayers in front of a bonfire, young single men - 
disguised as devils in straw cloaks and trousers, frightening masks and with 
bells around their waists - carry a wooden pail and a kitchen knife and go from 
house to house, knocking on doors and asking loudly, "Are there any 
good-for-nothing children around here?"

They are invited in and given rice cakes and sake.  alot of fun for the young 
men, and a nightmare for the little kids.

Anyway, this seems kinda nifty to me and I thought mabye someone out their might 
want to build a fanfic around this somehow.

One Idea I came up with had Ranma and Ryouga participating and somewhere along 
the line running into some real devils(shinma, kami, whatever).

Im not planning on doing anything with this.  But someone else might.
