Stick with the plotline you have here.  From what I've seen so far of the
actual story, it needs to slow down a bit; include more story between the 
major plot points.

You're going to get a lot of flames for it, but don't worry about it.  Were 
you on the ML last time a main character died of childbirth?  Trust me, 
you'll get through it okay.

Try this:

One of the other guys (or a girl angry enough to get the drowned-guy curse) 
goes insane or evil and rapes Akane.  He frames Ryoga, and works hard to 
convince everyone else that Ryoga is guilty.  He decides he wants to rape 
again; no one cares if Ryoga gets hurt so guess who's the second victim?

some kind of justification.  Second and more importantly, I cannot see any
males of the Ranma willing to rape anyone, especially a former boy, as
punishment for rape.  Kill, yeah, that I can see.  but not rape.  It is just
too baroque.  

Not for punishment, maybe, but for the same stupid excuses used to justify 
attacking Akane?

    Part of it is, my reaction to the idea of rape (hang the bastards) but
part of it is that I don't believe that any of the Ranma characters could do
it.  

So the characterizations will need to be developed beyond their manga and 
anime versions.
