Just so you know - Graphic Novels in general are just really large comic
books. In the case of manga, then yes, Viz graphic novels are collected
volumes of previously published books. In terms of American comics, GN's
can be either collected volumes of stuff (also called trade paperbacks) or
actual stand-alone original stories.

Yeah. Viz first puts them out in comic book form, then collects them
into "Graphic Novels". If you have the stories as comic books then you
don't need the GN's. Otherwise buying them is a lot easier than
collecting all the comic back issues!
