I do think that he would politely demand to know why family

honor required him to marry Yohko.

I remember the author writing that the 'fic started descending into
darkness around the middle of the story, and I think that the
last part is a result of that.  I don't see him "politely" demanding
the reason, but I don't see him telling her off, either.
I think a reaction somewhere in between would satisfy
the canonites and the 'fic's mood.
