So my question is this:
What do you do to get in the mood for Fanfic Writing?
Hmmm.... Rather hard, that one. Thinking back on it, I *don't* "get in
the mood". If the mood isn't there, it's best not to write. At least,
that's what I found. Generally, I get an idea (just a single, solitary
idea) and sit down and write the story from that.
My short stories generally stem from a single line I liked and were
written to uncompass it (for example, "Ascencion" was written around the
line "I am Veritech, hear me soar") or a challenge to a preconceived idea
("Of Dragons and Tea" was written when I realised there was a *third*
interpretation to the line "I want you over for dinner")
My novel-sized stories are generally written in Episodic format (I wrote
the first one for publication in a local fanzine and the 'serialisation'
stuck), with a basic idea of where my characters start and a fair idea of
how I want the story to end... and from then on, it's every character for
themselves. I seem to have trouble keeping my characters in line. ^_^;
Basically, my stance would be: Don't force yourself to write - you
probably will not be producing anything "good" compared to what you would
write when you felt like it.
