The biggest problem I had with this fic was that everyone seemed to accept
what happened way too easily. I understand that the timeline was compressed
for the story, but still... Priss accepted didn't even question what had
happened, Sylia came off with an 'oh, ok, yeah, I know this, lemme call an
expert' attitude, and the others were amazingly accepting and question-free
("I'm immortal." "Cool, you'll be young forever!")
Two reasons for that, first was the time compression factor that you
mentioned. As I originally outlined it, this was supposed to be a very
short 4 or 5 parter that focused on Priss, Sylia, Patrick and the two major
baddies. Nene, Linna and the ADP people weren't even gonna be involved
outside of being very minor characters. But then it began growing at an
astounding rate (hell, even _Leon_ turned out to be a major character!). 5
parts turned into 7, then into 9, finally into 11 plus the epilogue. If I
added more angst, I probably would have been writing the thing still.
Secondly is that I see the Knight Sabers not only as a quasi-military
outfit, but friends who stick together no matter _what_. I think they'd
accept her new status first then wait until she mucked up.
I know Sylia calling Patrick in early may have been a bit rushed, but this
was also posted to the Highlander fanfic list. I had to get the main immie
char introduced quick to keep interest over there. It was a tough balancing
act.
I'm also a bit light on my Highlander knowledge: what's to stop an Immortal
>from claiming his home/office is on Holy Ground (to keep others from coming
after him), even if it isn't?
Absolutly nothing.
Do Immortals just sort of 'know' what is and isn't Holy Ground? In this
story, everyone keeps taking everyone else's word on the subject, even
their enemies.
The Holy Ground concept is something that not even the HL writers have fully
explored, nor explained. In the first movie, Ramirez explains to Connor
MacLeod that not even the most evil Immortal would violate Holy Ground
because "it's tradition." In the series, the words "Holy Ground" are always
enough to stop a rampaging Immie. Aside from a refrence to two Immortals
duking it out on Holy Ground in Pompeii in 79 AD, nothing's been said about
what actually happens if it's violated. My take on it is that while an
Immie may not "know" if a spot is HG or not, they _do_ know, either
instinctively or through being told time and again, that _something_ will
happen to them. So if an Immortal lies about his headquarters being on Holy
Ground, yes, the others would automaticaly take their word for it, because
they simply don't want to risk the consequences if they _are_ telling the truth.
All in all, a nice job ^_^
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
