To put it mildly, Gargoyles is the GOD of american cartoons...
I hate to burst this person's bubble, but Gargoyles is NOT the
god of american cartoons. It was a good story to begin with (being
s from Scotland in the old days come back to life in the modern age
and how they deal with the timeshock) but now it's a mish-mosh
of crossed story arcs and mislaid plot lines.
Not so, I mean.. I admit its become very twisted lately, but that's
just in its charm. Not only do they mix in every single myth
possible, but they do it with a Maturity unfound in many Cartoons.
And each myth they investigate adds a bit of something to each of the
characters, they just don't brush it off and move on. Besides, you
can't beat the relationship that Goliath and Elisa have, and the
absolute fabulousness of Xanatos. And... and... and.. OWEN WAS PUCK!
Oopss, sorry, got over active there...
I haven't ever posted to the ML before, mainly because I don't know a
whole lot about the actual anime series (I like reading the fics,
especially since anime/manga is hard to find in Little Rock).
But the Gargoyles series, I have seen, and I have to agree that it is the
best cartoon in existance. Putting aside the issues of advertisement
and merchandising, I have trouble calling it a cartoon at times,
because cartoons are supposed to be for kids. But for goodness sakes,
this show deals with the _Illuminati_ (Bluestone is _just_ like Fox
Mulder), characters becoming pregnant, immortality, and time-travel the
way it should be done (reminds me of _The Dragonriders of Pern_). The
inclusion of Shakespearian and Athurian legends/history just makes the
series that much more interesting.
What show/series _hasn't_ become a 'mish-mosh of crossed story arcs and
mislaid plot lines'? (maybe the Japanese are better at this, but most
American shows become horribly convoluted, given enough time) Life is
complicated and most good programs highlight certain aspects to make it
seem even more so. How many people could write a fusion of Shakespeare,
King Arthur, X-Files, and Highlander with non-humans as the central
characters in the first place?
Besides, anything that Brent Spiner has a part in _must_ be good. :)
