I have to agree with Mr. Morrison's comments. There are very few
authors that write in Japanese on this page, and with obvious reason
that this is an English FFML.
We don't see that many Japanese fanfictions, Ms. Ichinohei
notwithstanding. I live in Yokosuka, a town about 35 miles south of
Tokyo, and I tend to surf the J-net every so often. I haven't seen
much mention of fanfics on Yahoo!Japan, Infoseek, Netploaza,
ACARANAVI, Panasearch, or any other Japanese search engine that I can
think of.
To answer the question of are the Japanese fans aware of this, well, I
can tell you that there are both Americans and Japanese who are are
aware of FF existence. My fanfic editors give me the input I need
regarding my fics as well as new tales to read; they also live here in
Yoko. Furthermore, this very letter was brought to my attention by a
friend of mine, a Toronaga Sakura, who lives in Taura (the next town
over), and who is--thanks, Saku-chan!--trying to translate my Tales of
Shampoo fanfics into Japanese (I'd do it myself, but my copy of Word
Kanji seems to be forever acting up; my Japanese in the way of Kanji
also sucks).
As for creators' knowledge of fanfics, I believe Mr. Morrison said it
best; I can't comment, as I have yet to go to a local anime convention
(though I may catch the one in Chiba next week, if I'm lucky!).

Just a few thoughts on the other side,
--Rob Barba

PS--If anybody DOES know of any J-sites that carry J-FF, pls pass them
on! I've love to read a few!
