Actually.. ^^;; *feeling REAL squirmish about counter what the Pizza-Slayer

Copyright infringement has little or nothing to do with selling. It is the
reproduction or use of an idea, item, design, etc.. without permission and/or
due credit to the creator.

For instance, if we were to rip off.. er.. I meant, copy Windows95 or anyother
of the operating systems out there and GIVE the copies to friends and/or
people, we aren't selling it, and we are giving due credit to the creators,
but we ARE commiting violations of the copyright law. {The above example is, I
believe, called pirating in case ~some~ people didn't know ^_-}

This WAS brought up on the list a while back. The case was something like
this.. {not verbatim and sure as heck not infallible. :p}

If you were to write a fanfic using someone else's creation, and you do so,
it's okay until the original author complains and tells you not to.

If this happens, not much will happen to you except perhaps hurt feelings a
bruised pride. ;)

However, if you had asked for permission, but were denied, but you STILL went
ahead to write the fanfic using the author's works, then the author, if they
value their copyright and works, will be forced to sue the person in court.

If the original author did not, then he/she would lose rights to the
copyright. Legally, that is. ;)
