Heh, I'm just amused how Shampoo can arouse so much emotions.  Personally,
I think the interpretation is up to the author, and I won't waste my
breath trying to convince people to see things in my light.  Actually,
it's probably better to keep it that way.

But let me say this, it is my opinion that Ranma should not be faulted for
messing up in China, or even besting Shampoo in combat...  Ranma's only
mistake is not being a decisive person and keeping all of those women
around him...  I mean, most of Ranma's problems could have been easily
terminated if he had admitted who he really loves.  Of course, that could
end up in a giant violent escapade that leaves most of the cast dead...
but that's besides the point.

Just my opinion, of course.
