they? I don't recall..)

How old is this? Perhaps it is iin need of updating...

Q3. Are the Japanese anime/manga creators aware of the fanfiction

   based on their works?
Were any comments made by them concerning western fanfiction?

Hmm, well any of them who ever travel to a con where we've got
gophie in his
army b-danna and the fanfic panel sure would find out fast ^^ I
wonder if
they'd run out screaming and ripping their hair out at the punning?

Only on the really bad ones (puns, that is). :)

Well, would you rather they be ripping out their cell phones and
preparing
lawsuits? I'm not sure, but the way I heard it, manga/anime
creators have a
"don't ask don't tell" policy towards fanfiction. I can't possibly
see how
they're _not_ aware of fanfiction based on their works, considering
the volume
of works on the Net, but they probably just turn a blind ear (ehrm,
so to
speak...) to such works.

After all, we _are_ committing copyright infringement here, are we
not?

Almost every instance at a con I've been to has the fans saying that
Fanfiction and Fan artists for just the west alone are comitting
sacrilege, impeging on the 'babies' of the 'god-like' creators of their
choice series. However I have not met a single westernly acclaimed
artist who would prove their fans right.

But in Japan. . . there is an entire underground CIRCUIT of of fan
MANGA, entire spin off series based on other series are not unheard of,
including art stories as long as some graphic novels. LUm Urusei Yatsura
is one of the easiest to get a hold of. Also are Lemon Hentai spin off-
they are very common as well. The blind eye idea is still on par, but in
some circles, I've heard that when you have been copied by one of these
undergrounds, then you've finally hit the manga big time.
