Hikaru Gosunkugi looked at the piece of paper in his
hand and thought to himself, "This is a very, very bad day".
What he had in his hand was an invitation to the wedding of
Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo. Under normal circumstances, he
would have been at least mildly pleased that Akane had thought
to invite him. However, nice things aren't the kind of things
that happen to Gosunkugi. The invitation, he discovered, was
for a Mr. Uezi. Furthermore, the wedding had taken place the
previous Tuesday. Gosunkugi's mind raced through thoughts of
exacting and terrible vengeance. After several minutes, he
came up with the perfect plan. He'd go to his room and sulk.

Unfortunately, neither Ranma nor Akane noticed.
        Their marriage continued.
Two weeks later, Hikaru Gosunkugi got a job.
                *       *       *
In retrospect, Gosunkugi thought, there were
worse things to do than work for the Red Lemon anime
company. Admittedly, menial work for a hentai
company didn't come with a great deal of prestige.
Within the company, though, things went well. After
a few suggestions, he was promoted to writer. He had managed
to turn an adolescence full of weird fantasies into a living
wage.
                *       *       *
"Hmm..", thought Gosunkugi as he looked over
the script he was working on. "Maybe Kentarou could
explain to the evil Amazon warrioress why it would be
wrong for her to steal the souls of the living..."
He quickly wrote Kentarou's monologue, looked it over
and thought "Nah...let's have them have sex. Then
I'll write in a few tentacle monsters."
                *       *       *
Gosunkugi was rather proud that his series
Robert's Curse had sold nearly one-hundred thousand
copies. The idea of a man who could change into a
woman had apparently intrigued a good number of people.
He had seen several other companies try to copy the
idea, but without the same results. Some of the other
companies which tried to steal the idea of the curse had been
mysteriously destroyed. Gosunkugi attributed
the success to his mystical skills. Hidden within the
cover art of the videocassette box of Robert's Curse was a ward
designed to keep Ranma Saotome away.

Gosunkugi had recently purchased a small tome
of ancient lore, and was looking over one of the many
rituals for success in business. As he stood over one
of the cels from his latest work, he incanted an incantation
while lighting an egg on fire. Unfortunately for him, the
ritual worked. Smoke begain to rise from the cel and
coalesced into something that looked human, but not quite.
The red eyes and tentacles were dead giveaways.
        "Hello?", Hikaru asked nervously.
"You summoned me.", said the demon.
"I wanted this series to succeed.", said Gosunkugi.
"You summoned the spirit of your trade?"
        Gosunkugi nodded.
"Well, then. You didn't expect a mystical being which
concerns itself with adult animation to be nice, did you?"
"I hadn't thought about it", stammered Gosunkugi.
"If it's any consolation, the youma which presides
over banking and finance isn't much better."

Gosunkugi considered himself an expert on the subject of
demonic possession. He was about to get a very good tutoring in
the subject.

In any other business, people would have noticed
a difference in the way that Hikaru Gosunkugi acted.
However, the Red Lemon anime company was not a usual
business. Most of its employees were too caught up in their
own strangeness to notice the difference. The rest just
didn't care. What people did notice was that his stories
were more violent and that he was promoted fairly often.
In March, 2003, the former president of Red Lemon died
under mysterious conditions. There was no investigation.
Hikaru Gosunkugi was named president of the corporation.
Gosunkugi assumed that role after a short vacation in a remote
part of China. His only souveneir was a large bottle of water
from the spring of the drowned octopus. A portion of that
water was applied liberally to his back, but there was a fair
bit left.

Two months later, he recieved a letter:

Dear Hikaru

We are holding a reunion for all of our friends from the old days,
and would like it if you could come. It will be held on June 25 at the
Saotome Dojo. Please come; we would love to have you here.

                                   Ranma and Akane

Hikaru laughed evilly and decided that he had found an
occasion to use the rest of the water.
