Ranma's brows furrowed at the unusual event.  A board creaked behind
Ranma.  It was a small warning, but it was enough.  Ranma leaped up and
back, flipping in the air to land back on his feet at the very top of
the roof.

You aren't working in Anime or Manga.  You're working in text.

You don't have animation, colors or even a single well-inked line, but
you do have the power to present the world colored by a person's
perceptions and judgement.

The advantage is that valuations (like: "small warning") aren't handed
down by "God", they're the result of somebody's biases.
