Contemplation's
Now this is a little warning. If you do not like those
little self justification stories or one's where characters
spend the whole time thinking rather than fighting, shy away
now. You might not like this one. If you enjoy these kinds
of stories (I do) keep reading and I hope you enjoy it. ; )
Please send all C&C (please don't worry about grammar and
spelling) to me personally, I'd appreciate it.

PS. I'm probably going to use more reference to the anime
then the manga. I've seen more of the anime than I own of
the manga but hey who really cares, eh?(Canadian reference
here so guess what, Canadian spelling) Sorry if I offend.

It was one of those nights. You know the one's where your
walking home or lying around and you look up and you can see
the stars. And for some strange reason you feel completely
at peace, just staring up at the sky wishing you had someone
to share that feeling with.
***
Ranma was up on the roof relaxing by enjoying the view.
He'd seen the sky filled with many more stars than this but
he was in the city and thus stars were hard to find.
Actually relaxing wouldn't be the right word for what Ranma
was doing. It was more along the lines of thinking, or
(strangely enough) meditating. He was confused, his life
had been turned completely upside down since he had gotten
here. First was the curse which he had receive before
arriving here. Then there was that engagement thing to
Akane.
His face darkened a little when that thought crossed his
mind. Yet for some reason it didn't bother him as much as
it did before and his reactions was more reflex then
reality. Still why did that stupid tomboy have to always
hit him. He didn't try to make all those girls chase him,
they just did. Ranma really wished that he could make her
understand that. Because she really was cute when she
wanted to.
Ranma was shaken out of his reverie by the sounds of people
talking coming from a little underneath him to the front.
Ranma didn't have to move to guess what it was. It was
probably Pop and Mr. Tendo playing shogi or go out on the
porch. It really didn't matter which one was being played,
they were all the same to Ranma. He heard the comments from
the game in which it was apparent that Mr. Tendo was losing.
He smiled a little as he heard "Do over" coming from down
below.
Chuckling to himself Ranma returned to his contemplation of
Akane. He really didn't have to force himself all that
hard. She was in her own way very cute. There was that
time when we did that stupid play together and in order to
see "China" we had to kiss. She tricked me then with that
stupid tape but in the end it really didn't bother me. What
did bother me was the fact that I ended up kissing Kuno too.
Ranma shuddered, that was disgusting even if I did use tape.
All for the chance to see some small Hong Kong movie star.
Then there was that time last Xmas when she had did
something really cute, when she had made that scarf. I know
that she's all thumbs yet she tried to do this for me.
Ranma smiled at the thought of Xmas, yes the day when Nabiki
had blackmailed him into spending time alone with Ucchan,
Shampoo and Kodachi. Now that was scary.
Ranma wondered what made the others think that he was
interested in them. With Ucchan he thought of himself more
as a friend, a good friend but nothing more. With Shampoo
he couldn't get a word in edgewise and besides he still
hadn't completely gotten over the fact that she had tried to
kill him. He wondered that if he told Shampoo that he
didn't care for her that way she would try to kill him
again, it was strange but she hadn't been chasing him
lately. It was something he really didn't want to think
about. With Kodachi, man she was just scary, pure and
simple.
Why don't people leave me alone. No one cares what I want,
it always you have to marry her or her or her. It was so
frustrating. Cologne took every opportunity to try to make
Shampoo his wife. Even resorting to drugs on numerous
occasions. Kodachi tried to impress him with her "womanly
skills" which was what she had called it. Not that it
mattered to him, he wouldn't go near her unless there was a
thick wall of steel in-between them. Ucchan on the other
had tried to set Ryoga up with Akane. And then there was
Pop and Mr. Tendo who always seem to know when the best, or
in some cases, the worst time to butt in. DIDN'T THEY ALL
REALIZE THAT HAD THEY NOT BUTT IN ON SOOO MANY OCCASIONS
THAT I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE TOLD AKANE THAT I LOVED HER BY
NOW. UKYO WOULD HAVE STOPPED HER CHASING AND JUST BEEN MY
FRIEND UCCHAN AGAIN. THEN SHAMPOO WOULD GO BACK TO CHINA OR
STAY AND STOP CHASING ME. THEN WE COULD GET KODACHI
COMMITTED TO A . . .
What did I just think . . . It wasn't . . . No it couldn't
be. Did I just say in my mind that I love Akane. No that
can't be, she just so un-cute (probably) and un-sexy (maybe)
and . . .
Ranma's eyes grew kind of distant and sad. Who am I
kidding, I guess that I do . . . l. . . lo. . . care for
her. In anger Ranma suddenly smashed his hand down on the
roof causing a small hole. Why can't I just tell her how I
feel? Am I that big a chicken, or . . . or . . . I don't
know. He looked at the hole in the roof, stopped, and
smiled a little. You know, I'm starting to sound like
Ryoga.
Quietly Ranma lied back down and started to stare at the
stars.
***
Akane stared at her math problem and found herself thinking
of Ranma. The way he moved, the way he talked, the way he
helped her whenever she was trouble. She sighed. Then she
thought about all the insults and Ukyo and Shampoo always
hanging off of him. That Jerk.
Akane turned her head with a huff but it seemed that she
couldn't stay angry very long (which was a surprise) and
went to her bed. P-chan was already there looking at Akane.
You know, the way he looks at me you could almost swear he
was human. That thought made her laugh. Well at least one
person thought that . . . Ranma.
Akane paused, why did she keep thinking of Ranma. She felt
a shiver run over her as she thought of the way he would
walk, and his tight muscular frame. She shook her self.
That jerk was the person she was "engaged" to. Not that
anybody cared to ask what she felt. They kept either trying
to push them together or apart. Each one using what ever
means that suited their personality. Cologne and Shampoo
used all sorts of spices and potions and tricks to get Ranma
to fall in love with Shampoo. Ukyo tried all her tricks but
they were usually so strait forward like herself and Kodachi
was just psychotic. Then there was Dad and Mr. Saotome.
When ever Ranma and I were ever alone they always seem to
butt in. All those half moments, and almost kisses. DON'T
THEY REALIZE THAT HAD THEY LEFT WELL ENOUGH ALONE NONE OF
OUR PROBLEMS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. RANMA AND I WOULD BE
TOGETHER WHILE UKYO, SHAMPOO AND KODACHI WOULD GO AWAY.
THEY DON'T SEEM TO . . .
Akane's anger had sort of faded away as she thought about
her thoughts. Did I . . . no, I couldn't have. Ranma and I
aren't going to be married . . . are we? Akane suddenly
grabbed P-Chan and held him close.
"You know P-Chan" there came a oink which was his way of
saying that he was there "I can remember that time when
Ranma lost his memory. He didn't really lose his memory, he
just thought he was a girl." The sound that came from P-
Chan sounded almost like laughing. "I remember the time
that he came in saying he was scared to spend the night
alone so he begged me to sleep in here." The laughing from
P-Chan seemed to stop. "I can remember, when he said that
the old Ranma would never be coming back, how I felt."
Akane picked up P-Chan and brought him in close snuggling
him. "I felt as if someone had taken out my heart," Akane
blushed a bit, "I remember almost saying who am I going to
marry but I had bitten back those words." You know I almost
wish I hadn't taken back those words, were Akane's thoughts.
I wish I could have told him then that I loved him. Who am
I kidding . . . there are so many times that I could have
said something to him and I never did. Akane sighed and
remember a lullaby that her mother used to sing to her when
she was little.

Her mother had called it her song, and even when she was
older and had found out that it was a generic lullaby she
still called it her song. Her mother used to sing it to her
whenever she was troubled and right now Akane was very
troubled. Her feelings were all in a jumble and there was
no end in sight. Yet the song was making her drowsy and she
fell asleep with these last words, "Ranma you jerk.", but
her inflection and the way they were said makes one believe
they were said, not in anger. . . but in love.
***
Akane woke up the next morning to find herself lying in bed.
Which was not a big surprise to her. Except that she was
late. Why didn't anyone wake her up. She threw on her
school uniform and grabbed her bag and ran downstairs. She
threw open the kitchen door and found Kasumi singing softly
to herself while she was making breakfast. Why isn't Kasumi
fazed at all by time, Akane wondered, the least she could do
is try to act normal.
"Kasumi, where is my lunch I am soooo late." Akane stopped
as she saw the humour in Kasumi's face. Then looking at the
calendar she saw that today was Sunday, great. The only day
where she doesn't have to hurry and she does. She could see
that Kasumi was trying very desperately not to laugh and it
didn't improve her mood much. "I'm going to take a bath."
Was about all Akane could say, considering she didn't feel
like talking. She had a very rough night and she didn't
really want to discuss it with anyone, especially herself.
(Here is a hint, she dreamt about <guess who?>) She quietly
walked up the stairs and went to her room and along the way
she went by Ranma's room. She suddenly stopped and turned
around. She opened the door quietly and peered inside and
there he was. He was sleeping and for some reason her heart
had just melted. She felt as if she could watch him
forever, just lying there without his macho acting, or his
giant ego. Face it girl, your no angel yourself. Finally
and with much effort Akane took her gaze off Ranma. She
walked towards the baths humming her little lullaby to
herself
***
"Take this to Dr. Tofu please." Kasumi had asked then and
now Akane found herself pacing in a hospital hallway. It
was just like that jerk to get hit by one of the few cars
that patrolled the streets between the dojo and the clinic.
They had been walking peacefully together (which Akane had
thought that was nothing short of a miracle) when this car
came out of no where. The funny thing was that it should be
her lying in the bed, she was the one who was in the middle
of the road while he was on the ledge. All she could
remember was a flash of light, something hitting her,
opening her eyes and finding Ranma lying down twisted in a
slight way. The driver had looked scared and Akane didn't
blame him. She took a few steps to yell at him when she
promptly passed out.
When she came too one of the nurses had told her that the
man who had hit Ranma had brought both of them to the
hospital. He then promptly left. Akane didn't care, all
her thoughts were on Ranma.
Akane looked over at the closed door with the words "no
visitors" displayed on the door. She wanted so desperately
to be with Ranma right now but the doctor had told her quite
firmly to wait outside until he was done with his prognosis.
The waiting was killing her. Why did that jerk do that? He
didn't have to knock me out of the way? What am I going to
do? Why didn't I tell him how I feel? Akane promptly broke
down into tears. For how long she cried Akane didn't know
but when she had finally regained some of her composer she
found the doctor standing over her with a neutral expression
on his face. What. . . would Ranma be okay? Is he going to
die? It's all my fault too.
"Miss Tendo," the doctor began, "I have good news and bad
news. . . that's a bit clich_ isn't it." The doctor smiled
and Akane found herself chuckling a bit.
"Well what the good news." Akane was glad . . . at least
there was good news.
"The good news is that Mr. Saotome appears to be stable, he
breathing is normal and everything is working on it's own."
His face creased a little in a frown, "The bad news is that
we have no idea how long he'll remain in a coma state. It
could be hours, day, even months before he wakes up."
Akane's eyes seemed to glisten over with tears. "I'm sorry."
the doctor added but Akane found no condolence in his words
only emptiness. "Anyway you should call your family and
anyone you see fit. You can use the phone in the office.
We're only letting immediate family in the room so you can't
go in."
Akane's face just contorted into a face of rage, she started
yelling at the doctor. "How dare you tell me not to go in.
He's my fianc_ after all and you say that only "immediate
family" can go in. Tell me one good reason right now why I
should hang your entrails all over this hallway." The
doctor chuckled a little and for some reason that made Akane
all the more angry. "Do you think THIS IS FUNNY!"
"I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of your . . . marital status . .
. you could go in as well." Akane felt her anger ebb away
as the doctor walked down the hall she felt she had to add
the final word.
"WE ARE NOT MARRIED!!!!!"
***
Akane woke up to find herself still in the hospital next to
Ranma. Her family had come down when they heard what had
happened. They had all offered to stay with Akane but she
had told them, rather rudely now that she thought about it,
to go home. She also told Kasumi to call school and say
that they would not be there because Akane would stay next
to Ranma until he awoke. Akane had seen the look in
Kasumi's eye but didn't know what to make of it. It didn't
matter, all that mattered to her right now was Ranma.
Yes Ranma, that person who she had called a jerk, idiot and
pervert, not to mention all the times she hit him.
That guy who seemed, at least in her mind, to continually
chase other girls.
Yes the Ranma who has risked his life time and time again to
save her. The guy that cared about her more than himself.
Akane leaned over and looked at Ranma's prone form lying on
the hospital bed with an IV attached to his arm and found
herself crying.
Why can't I tell him how I feel? Why does my heart feel
like it's going to shatter? Akane's thoughts were flying
around faster and faster in her mind. She reached for one
thought only to find that the original thought wasn't there,
it had moved on. Finally after being tosses about in the
maelstrom that was her mind Akane reached through the tangle
of her emotions and latched onto a thought. She had finally
broken through all her self-denial and delusions.
She loved Ranma and by his actions, not his words, she knew
that he loved her. They just didn't know how to say it.
Akane reached over and touched Ranma ever so slightly on his
cheek. "I guess that I can stop acting like and idiot." She
didn't know why she said it out loud but it made her smile,
I smile that was marred by her tears. "Ranma, I . . . I . .
.love you." Akane felt herself suddenly being taken over by
a fit of tears. She threw herself on Ranma.
"But why does it have to be like this you DUMMY!" Akane
felt her depression very keenly now. "You DUMMY! . . .
DUMMY! DUMMY! DUMMY!" Akane continued to cry trying so hard
to purge herself of this infernal depression. She wasn't
aware for how long she was crying but she was interrupted by
a . . .
"So that's how you thank me, callin' me names." Akane
snapped her head up. . . it couldn't be . . . not Ranma.
She turned her head fearing that it was only a dream . . .
yes, that's it, a dream nothing more. That thought stayed
in her head until she saw Ranma lying there with his blue
eyes open ever so slightly, as if he knew something.
Akane felt her depression being replace by anger and it was
rising fast. "How long have you been listening!"
"Long enough!" Akane didn't know what he was hinting at and
now she was even angrier. She stepped towards him placing
her face almost right in front of his.
"All right! Enough games Ranma! What are you TALKING
ABOUT!" Akane could feel her rage take over, after all she
had suffered this idiot had the nerve to play games with
her.
"Your right Akane . . . enough games." Akane heard Ranma's
voice lower and stopped dead in her tracks. This wasn't how
he was supposed to act, his voice was supposed to get higher
and then I would urk. . .
Lost in her thoughts Akane had missed what Ranma was
planning. . . no had done. He had kissed her and while her
first thought was to push away, she didn't do that. She
returned the kiss with a passion that made up for every lost
opportunity, every interruption.
Finally they broke the kiss and Ranma said, his voice weak
and a little weary "I. . . . love you too." Akane felt
herself smile at his words and she knew that her life from
now on would be a little bit better.
