CRIMSON SKY
Ch 1 First Encounter

Sunny days are so rare these days, with the amount of damage being done,
the sky is often red than blue. Red ... it always reminds him of blood.
He doesn't know why but he hates the thought of it. He pushes the morbid
thought out of his mind, slings his backpack over his shoulder, and steps
outside of his house. He takes a deep breath of the fresh air. Well, at
least the air is still refreshing. He looks up to the sky and smiles in
delight when he finds that the sky has cleared for today- it's blue. It
has been almost a month since he has seen blue sky. Red just isn't his
favorite color.

The streets are crowded and busy as usual. He hates to go to school by
bus. Sure, the transportation nowadays is definitely more efficient and
faster, it's also deadlier. With the heavy material and the specially
engineered metal designed for these vehicles, if there will ever be a
traffic accident, it is often likely that no one will survive. But even
that doesn't stop people from violating traffic rules. Yes, he lives in a
crazy world but he loves it anyway.

The wait at the bus stop is boring as usual. He looks at his watch- seven
o'clock. Damn! He's going to be late for class. Why does the bus always
come late anyway? Just when he thinks that the bus will never come, the
shinny silver color vehicle swerves through the traffic and comes to an
abrupt stop at the waiting stand. He gets on the bus without wasting any
seconds and find himself a good seat.

"Mornin Ryan!" calls the driver. "Ain't today a good day or what?"

	"Yeah, sure is."

"So you kids gonna go to the beach or somethin?" ask the middle age driver
as he drives through the traffic rather aimlessly. "Ya know, back in the
good old days when my grandparents were kids, they got them blue skies
everyday. They go to the beaches, go out campin. Don't we wish it can be
like this today eh?"

	"Yeah, exactly."

"What's wrong lad? You don't seem too talkative today," the driver turns
his
head around to face Ryan.

"Eh...nothing," he tries to reply politely. Dammit! He's going to be
late for class and he has a test today!

"All righty then," the driver remarks and turns his attention back to
driving, singing to himself as he does so. After what seems to be an
eternal suffering of being stuck on a bus with a reckless driver who sings
off-key, he finally arrives at his
destination. Ryan glances at his watch again- shit! ten minutes until
class starts, and he still has to walk several blocks before reaching
school. Damn! He wishes that he has a car.

"All right, I guess I'll have to run to school through the shortcuts
then," Ryan says to himself. He looks around and is relieved to find that
there aren't many cars around, it'll be safer to jaywalk that way. He gets
ready, take a deep breath and starts running as fast as he can. He likes
to run, it makes him feel like he's flying.

It turns out that he doesn't have to jaywalk at all, for he hasn't run
into any red lights on the way. Ryan stops at the last intersection to
catch his breath. He checks his watch and decides that he may get to
school on time after all. He brushes back his blond bangs, straighten up
his clothes, and walks across the intersection. It is a screech and a honk
that catches his attention. Ryan turns his head and sees the car driving
straight toward him at top speed. For a moment, Ryan stands in the path of
the car, too stunned to do anything; but the next thing he knows, he is
lying by the pavement on the sidewalk- someone has shoved him out of the
way in the nick of time.

"Holy shit!" a man's voice exclaims. Ryan turns his head toward that
direction and finds the driver of the car standing by a figure lying on the
ground. It must have been the person who saved him. That person is not
moving! The horrible realization then strike him- that person has died in
saving him. But why?!!

"I'm fine," another voice answers. Ryan gasps in surprise as he sees the
person manages to stand up. There's blood on his white coat but he seems
to be all right. Impossible! That car was driving at maximum speed. No
one could've survived the hit.

"Are you sure kid?" the man asks with concern. "I'm really sorry, I didn't
mean it. I lost control of the car and..."

"I said I'm fine." With those words, the youth turns on his heels, pick
up his backpack and walks past Ryan. The latter shakes his head, unable to
believe what he has just witnessed, and runs to catch up with the lad.

"Hey!" He calls out. "Thanks a lot man."

	"Hn."

	"You sure you're okay?"

The youth doesn't respond, instead he continues walking in the direction
of the school.

"I'm Ryan," Ryan offers. "and you?"

"Anyone ever told you not to talk to strangers?"

For a minute Ryan is speechless. What's the matter with this person? He
is terse and definitely has an attitude problem.

"We're going to be late," the youth says suddenly. With those words, he
grabs Ryan by his arm and pulls him along in fast strides.

Ryan lets himself to be pulled along as he observes this stranger
curiously. He has short brown hair with gold natural highlights. His eyes
are crystal blue. The girls in his school are going to go crazy over this
guy, Ryan speculates, that's good news since it will mean that the girls
may leave him alone for once. Sterling has always find the girls in his
school to be unusually snobbish, flighty, and just plain annoying. His
older brother teases him about being lady's man while in reality he knows
that he is not interested in any of them, henceforth he never goes out with
them.

So, when other boys his age in his school are dating girls and keeping
scores, he devotes his time into sports and other more interesting things.
But still, finding those love notes in his locker is still a daily routine.

	"Where's the classroom?"

	"Huh?"

	"Class 410B."

	"That's my class," Ryan remarks.

"I asked you where it is, not if it's your class."

"Follow me," Ryan replies tersely as he mutters under his breath, "talk
about attitude problems..." If it weren't for the fact that this person
has just saved his life, he would've just left this egotistical and
mean-spirited new student in the lobby of his school.

The rest of the day is a bore as usual. Ryan is right, the girls are
definitely interested in this new student, whose name is Reshion. Strange
name but a unique one, at least it's better than his. During lunch time,
he finds Reshion eating alone behind the gym building. Obviously the new
student wants to be left alone.

Ryan calls out to Reshion and when the new student doesn't answer, he
decides to approach Reshion and maybe give him a lecture on rudeness. To
his surprise, he finds that Reshion is not eating. Instead his left hand
is clutching hard on the right arm. There seem to be something wrong with
Reshion's arm.

"You all right?" Ryan stares wide-eyed when he realizes that Reshion has
dislocated his elbow. But from what? It is then that the realization
dawns on him- Reshion has dislocated his arm from that accident in the
morning. "Reshion maybe you should see the doctor "

"No." is the blunt reply. He then stands up abruptly and looks Ryan in
the eye, his blue eyes staring sharply into Ryan's green ones. "I want you
to do me a favor."

	"F...favor?"

"Grab my right arm and twist it around. I want it to be straighten out."

"What?!!!! Are...are you nuts?!" Ryan stammers. "Go see a doctor!
Dammit! God knows what other damages the accident has done to you!"

"Just do it!" That order silenced him right away. "This is for repaying
me for this morning."

*This guy really weird,* Ryan thinks to himself. *actually, more like
creepy and nuts.* He sighs, closes his eyes and gets a good grip on
Reshion's arm. He twists at it according to the other boy's direction.
Ryan winced mentally for he can feel Reshion's bones crunching against each
other as he tries to twist them around and puts them 'back to place.' When
the agonizing process is over, Ryan is ready to throw up.

"I want you to stay away from me." Reshion says suddenly.

	"What...what do you mean?"

"Everyone who gets involved with me always ends up dead," Reshion says.
"and Ryan, you've just crossed that line. Stay away from me or you'll be
killed."
