You flamed everyone who has ever written a fanfic using the dub names
regardless of whatever other merits their story may have possessed and
basically dismissed them as idiots. As a group in a blanket condemnation.
As you sow, so shall ye reap. You did not express this as your opinion.
You expressed this as some sort of gospel truth. You did not say "I do
not like it when people use the dub names. I think it is a travesty." or
whatever. Rather, you categorically attacked all of them and stated your
opinion as if it was the foundation of all truth.
Good point.
To quote your offending paragraph:
And once more I must protest the usage of the DIC names for the
characters. People, if you are GOING to write Sailormoon fanfiction,
USE THE RIGHT NAMES. Serena, Lita, Amy, Raye, Mina, Darien, Reeny,
Molly, Chad, Andrew, Melvin, and others--DO NOT EXIST. Nor do the
Sailor Scouts exist. Use the correct names or don't bother at all.
Basically, you are telling all these people, 'Meet my standards or don't
write.' Not, I'll not be happy with you, or I don't like it, but 'Use the
correct names or don't bother at all'.
To quote another offending paragraph, from one of Robert's r.a.a.fandom
posts (I'll repost the full message if anyone wants it):
Now, on to the real piss-off factor. This individual implemented a
rather interesting concept--for whatever reason, he decided that he
would use the SPANISH names for the characters. Now, I don't see many
fanfic writers from Spain floating around, and those that do tend
generally to conform to what's been set out for either Japan or at
least North America. The fanfic market doesn't get much call for the
terminology used in Spain. While this may not bug some of you so much,
it seriously got my goat. I have a tough enough time putting up with
the North American names for the Sailor Senshi. Being expected to put
up with the SPANISH names for them on top of that...no.
Here he's whining about people using the Spanish dub as a source instead of
the English dub, as if English was somehow superior. Face it, English
dubbing is no less foreign to Japanese anime than Bantu, Punjabi, Spanish,
etc. dubbing.
So I guess the only reason he's demanding conformity to "at least North
America [totally ignoring Mexico, Puerto Rico, etc.]" is his Anglophone
snobbery.
Since Robert refused to say which story and author he was flaming in that
post, could someone else please let me know which story was a fanfic of the
Spanish dub? Thanks in advance!
If you make statements like that, you have to expect to be baked alive.
I totally agree.
End of line.
