I'm trying to finish a Gunnm story...and I need help.

Where can I find a synopsis of the last few manga volumes? My story is set
after the ending, but I don't know that much of what happened, or what the
status quo is by then (i.e. who's still alive? where are they? etc.).

Gally/Garry's alive but turned into a human. Ido has self-erased all
memories from before his.. er... accident. Jeru/Salem now looks like a
gigantic flower. The Mad Doctor (Dr Nova) is now simply *crazy* (he lost
it right at the end). Kaos is dead, so is BarJack. The little girl with
the bad attitude (damn, forgot her name again) survives.

GUNNM - Volume 9 (final) --- some notes.

*** The central computer Melchizedek's story (p.208) ***

To send the nearly extinct mankind to space in order to protect and
invigorate them, the orbital elevator Jacob's Ladder was working at
full-power and all of Melchizedek's power was used to support it. Moon,
Mars, Venus and Jupiter's satellites The colonization progressed and the
colonies became independent so that Melchizedek's support was not required
any longer. So Melchizedek planned and carried out the colonization of the
area outside the Solar System. About the same time both ends of the
orbital elevator was reconstructed, and the space port was named Jeru, the
Earth port was named Salem. Salem was built in order to simulate the
`closed environment society' in the star ships which travel many years,
and to harvest superior genes.

*** Nova's story (p. 210) ***

According to the information that Dr Nova obtained independently, the
orbital elevator never operated in the last 200 years. This coincides
with the war between the colonized planets, and the beginning of the
`scrap town'.

*** Nova's action (p. 211) ***

When he entered the room he scattered his nano-machines. The nano-
machines enter deep into Melchizedek's circuits, physically cutting
all unnecessary relations.

*** Melchizedek's story (p. 212) ***

The starships never flew. 200 years ago the colonies started a war
over terraforming resources. Melchizedek was involved in the war
even though it had nothing to do with her, and the star ships and
their crews were destroyed. Even though she's only a computer,
Melchizedek had lost her mind for over a month from the grief and
sorrow. The star ships were just like her children, her descendant
and her future. She cut off the orbital elevator connection, isolated
Salem to stop the flow of history (literal translation, this is). This
small `cradle' is her whole world now. If someone is going to take the
cradle away from her, she will destroy herself and the world that she
loved.

*** Nova's story (p. 215) ***

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Melchizedek has gone mad.
Melchizedek's core started to sink, and the orbital elevator started
to break down. Now that Melchizedek has gone insane and killed
herself, there's no way of electronically stopping the catastrophe.
The connection between the orbital elevator and the orbital ring is at
altitude 600 km, Skyhook. There are only 5 minutes left until the
Skyhook's `undock bolt' finishes operation and the ring-elevator
structure collapses.

(p. 220)
In theory, Gally's accelerator will reach the maximum of Mach 17.5,
taking two minutes to reach Skyhook. During the acceleration the brain
mechanism will switch to nano-circuit so lack of oxygen should not be
a problem. By giving the Trigger shot, the Imaginos body that Dr Nova
gave her will undergo a transmutation once and once only. She is to
use the shot at Skyhook and fuse-lock the `undock bolt'. However,
because the transmutation will be the embodiment of her subconscious,
it is not possible to control it by will, and the result is not
predictable. In the worse case the strength may be insufficient and
she may not be able to prevent the collapse.

(p. 228)
Dr Nova is regretting the fact that he told Gally about the Trigger,
because the `great' Dr Nova is going to be saved by a girl who was his
`guinea pig'. He would prefer to go to hell rather than be saved.

EPILOGUE

*** Nova's message (p. 254) ***

"I, Destiny Nova's main brain chip, have gone insane but occasionally
the backup brain connects up and I regain my sanity. During those
periods of sanity I have been carrying out the structural analysis of
`Nanoman-ju'. Nanoman-ju keeps its strength by using the carbon nano-
tube as its basis, and it consists of nano-machine cells that has
perfectly balanced metabolism. However, the process of forming such
system in a very short time needs to be studied in the future work. It
is possible that the process is a step towards the breaking of karma,
which has been the aim of my research for a long time. By the way, I
found out that information elements that used to constitute Gally are
scattered within the nano-machine cells. With a little bit of nano-
operation it is possible to reconstruct them again."
