To add my two cents, as a pre-reader to Zen's fic, I objected strongly
to some of his support group meetings. They weren't portrayed well as a
mechanism for finding help, and I despaired that people in abusive
relationships would see the ineffectual support group meetings in BE and
choose not to find one for themselves.
Obviously, this can't be the "Bitter End" if the support group works for
Ranma. However, Zen did alter it enough to show that the means to a
cure for the abuse was there; Ranma just chose not to use them,
tragically limited by his sense of 'honor'. (As I wrote in one of my
fanfics, there should come a point where honor gives way to compassion
and love. That point, sadly, was beyond Ranma's ability to reach in
BE.)
But the support groups *were* shown to be a useful way for people to get
help, and for that I'm glad. I, too, hope that people who find
themselves in need of such groups seek them out and use them. They
*can* be *very* helpful.
