Okay guys, so I was bored. So what? Well, one of the threads sort of gave me
an idea for this, so here's yet another fic beginning. Except it isn't quite
as horrible. Though the kind of things you could do with this premise probably
could be.
Anyway, hope you like it. And no, I definitely, absolutely, will not be
touching this. Someone else can.

Particle beams smashed into the roadblock, scattering the men who had
vainly attempted to hold it. The renegade boomer gazed at the humans'
attempts to contain it, and quickly analysed their effectiveness. Another
lance of laser fire was its response to the results.
For Leon McNichol and Daley Wong, nights like this were almost routine.
Fortunately, casualties had been low this time. Well. Lower than usual.
But the fact was that ADPolice was slowly yet surely being depleted.
The number of recruits just couldn't match what they lost each time a boomer
got it into their skull to go on a rampage.
Leon and his partner were, at that point, peering over the edge of their
once proud Interceptor. Unfortunately, a stray laser blast had turned their
engine into so much shrapnel. If the casualties weren't high, equipment
costs certainly were. That was the third car this week.
Leon pulled out his handgun. It was time to get serious. "Daley, cover
me," he ordered.
"But," Daley said.
It was too late. Before either of them could react, the boomer doubled
back on its previous path, and closed in on the hastily erected blockade
a few blocks behind it.
"Shit," said Leon to no one in particular. Taking advantage of the
boomer's inattention, he ducked out of cover and fired a few rounds into its
back. The boomer easily shrugged them off and continued to charge.
Some of the wiser police officers were already fleeing the doomed
barricade. Missile fire convinced some of the less bright that staying was
rather irresponsible. Only the steadfast remained as the boomer came within
fifty metres.
One of the officers, a tall red-haired man with a bulky figure and large
muscles, moved in front of the barricade. What shocked Leon was that the
officer wasn't even wearing heavy body armour; just the standard uniform that
was given to every officer.
The boomer closed at frightening speed. The redhead would have no chance
of stopping it. It kept on closing on him... thirty metres... twenty...
ten....
"Oh, hi Boomer C-5039," the man said brightly, apparently oblivious to the
danger.
The boomer stopped. To the surprise of just about everyone in the area,
the boomer halted its charge, and just stood there, a mere five metres from
the officer. "Uh, hi," it mumbled.
"What seems to be the problem?" asked the man.
The boomer started looking down at its feet, and if Leon hadn't known
better - and he did know better, didn't he? - he'd have sworn it was in
shame! "Nothing, Mr.Carrot," it replied.
"I mean," continued the new recruit, "it isn't very nice to be hurting
people like that, is it?"
"No, Mr.Carrot."
"I think you should apologise."
"Yes, Mr.Carrot."
The boomer looked up and started over in Leon's direction. "Oh shit, here
it comes," said Daley, stating the obvious.
Boomer C-5309 stood in front of them, looked at them right in the eyes.
"Sorry," it said in a small voice. Then it walked over to one of the police
vans, opened it up, got inside, and closed it again.
Leon blinked. "Daley, tell me I'm dreaming. Who was that guy?"
"Uh, you mean the red haired guy? Well built, just managed to shame a
combat boomer into giving itself up."
"Yes."
"Ah," said Daley. "That's the new recruit I was telling you about sir.
Carrot Ironfoundersson. The cheif said something about you being assigned to
take him through the normal routine? Get him used to things?"
Leon sighed. "Oh boy."
