Think of them more as caution signs, a warning for those who might be hurt
or seriously offended.  I realize it is impossible to classify everything,
that defeats part of storytelling, to give everything away at the
beginning, but somethings are truly emotional dynamite, such as darkfics,
which can inflict serious depression. 

>From the comments I've read from those who write darkfics and other
authors in general, their intentions are never to hurt anyone with what
they wrote.  They're expressing what they feel strongly about, something
they feel they need to write or just that is the way the story was suppose
to go.  Writing is a way we talk to each other, another way to debate and
explore ideas and beliefs.  Aaahhh!  Bed calls.  Ja ne!
