Well, I posted my tenchi story yesturday (Love's Labout Lost), and so far
I haven't heard a
peep out of anyone about it. didn't anyone read it? was it so mediocore
that no one felt the need to give me any feedback? come on... at least
someone tell me "it sucked" and why!
This was my first story, and this has been a pretty discouraging return on
it... how long does it usually take for feedback to come in? isn't that
what this list is for, giving authors some feedback on their work?
Hey, don't feel bad. We've all (well, most of us...no need to mention all those
talented bastards who write something good the first time and wreck it all
for the
rest of us newbies...JOKE! JOKE!) been there. I've posted some stuff, but
most of it
was either incomplete or (in the case of BAFT3K) largely ignored because of
the rudeness
factor. Script isn't always too revered either. Depends on how you go
about it.
Your best bet is to keep trying, write stuff that appeals to YOU (the person
you should
please the most, with the MLers in 2nd place). Now and again, knock on in
conversations
on the ML to let people get to know you better. Make some jokes, and let
them endear
you in their hearts. (OR, kiss the revered authors' asses. Whichever is
easier for you ^_^...
And NO, I DON'T do THAT!) This way, people are more likely to recognize you
and your work.
Even if you only get a few off-hand comments, those are the best. I
treasure any I get (good
or bad) and they all go into the *"MY" Fanfic Mail* folder. Try to keep any
you receive organized
by date and keep re-reading them for reference in future work. This way,
you can notice
any trends in the popularity of your fiction!
BTW, I DID read "Love's Labour Lost" and thought it was a very good attempt.
I myself haven't
had the opportunity to watch the whole Tenchi Series, but have tried to see
what I can.
I thought it was interesting to see what Tenchi actually thought about his
two potential
suitors (though, if you think about it, any girl in TM is a potential
suitor). I felt
really bad for Ryoko-chan. ~>( I can actually see her drowning her sorrows
in a bottle of Sake
(even though it t'was but merely a dream). The only real complaint I had
was the occasional
spelling errors, which the best of us all make, even WITH spelling errors.
Although, I only use
checkers when I usually have a HUGE document to pour through. ^_^
So, don't give into the Biggest Common Denominator (sp?) by writing what you
don't want to.
Even though most readers on the ML *are* indeed Ranma Phreaks (I must admit
that I myself love
the series), many of them have other favs as well, and enjoy a good break
away from the
traditional 'Ranma+Akane beating each other up fic'.
Hope this helps. Buck up, kiddo...you have a promising career!
Ja na,
