No, it shouldn't use original names.  A lot of the power of this story comes
from the fact that we're familiar enough with the characters in Ranma 1/2 to
know that Akane hits Ranma all the time over things that are usually not his
fault.  The major difference is that in the series we're supposed to laugh at
it.

I've compared Akane to a spouse beater in the past, usually when someone else
selectively treats only some characters seriously in order to call them insane
or violent or whatever.  I'm glad someone finally wrote this story.
