SNOW
Chapter 3

What the hell was I thinking? I could not believe that I actually told him
that I would bring his vision back. What the fuck?! Who did I think I am?
A healer?!! It seemed that I've fucked things up again. I shouldn't have
made a promise that I couldn't keep. But then why did I tell him that? To
placate him? Why did I give a damn about a human?!!

I leaned against the tree trunk and peered into his window. Funny how I
was starting to do this again. The last time I did that was when 'he' was
still alive. I shook my head. I should really stopped referring to him just
by 'he'. I should've gotten over it by now, it had been twenty years. But
I still couldn't say his name. Fuck! I couldn't even think his name.

The shattering of glass snapped my attention back to the room. Something
was going on in there. I heard screams. I hurried into the room to see
what was going on. What I saw shocked me...

There was broken glass everywhere, from the mirror, the windows, as well as
from the glass utensils. Auden was wearing an expression of shock and
horror while the woman who I assumed was his mother was standing from a
distance with her back flat against the wall. She was shaking in fright.
There were plants everywhere. Ningenkai plants. But what surprised me was
that those were roses. Their thorned vines had entangled themselves among
the objects in the room. It seemed to have come from below the ground
outside the hospital.

Upon realizing that the door of the room was open, the woman ran out of the
room, sobbing and hysterical. I walked toward Auden, he was still in shock.

	"Auden."

No response. I walked closer and gingerly, placed my hand on his shoulder.
He jumped at my touch. I felt a flicker of something out of the corner of
my eye and ducked. A rose had somehow 'flew' toward me. It missed me
narrowly and impaled itself on the wall.

"Whatta..." I started. That was reiki I felt, not youki. It had come from
Auden.

"My god..." he said slowly as if there was no one else in the room. "what
is happening to me?"

"Auden..." I said. "Auden, it's me."

He turned his head toward me, his emerald eyes wild with fear. "What is
happening to me? I...I almost killed mother! I ... I was so angry and then
before I knew it ... the glass started to shatter ... and ... and ... those
plants..." He was gasping and shaking violently. "I couldn't see anything
but I could feel her fear. I could feel the plants. My god...I could feel
the roses...My god..."

	"Auden, it's all right."

"What's happening to me..." he repeated. "I'm not myself anymore. What
have I become..."

"Auden!" I shook him. "Auden! Snap out of it dammit! Auden!!!"

It was then that he noticed my presence. Before I could stop it, he had
his arms around me and was sobbing. Damn! I was never good at this kind of
things. Not to mention that this was extremely embarassing. I, an S-class
youkai, stuck in a hospital in Ningenkai of all places, and conforting a
human that I didn't even know! I must have been more fucked up then I
thought...

******************

"Yes, Mrs. Hathaway, we deeply believe that there is a solution to your
son's eye problem..."

	"But ..."

"No need to worry about the cost. We'll take care of it. Trust us, Mrs.
Hathaway."

I heard the voices before I reached the room. The voice of the male
sounded familiar, they were obviously discussing something about Auden's eye
problem.

"All right, but we have to get Auden's permission."

"I agree," I heard Auden answered. I stood in a corner to wait for the
people to leave. When the door opened, I saw the "officials" who had been
in the room discussing about Auden's "problem." It was Koenma and Botan. I
waited for a few more hours past midnight before entering the room.

"Hiei." He knew I was here.

	"Hn."

	"Who are they?" He asked.

	"Who are whom?"

"Those people, they claimed that they were government officials," Auden
started. "I...I know they meant no harm but ..."

"How do you know they meant no harm?!" I blurted. "You don't even know them!"

"I don't know," he shrugged. "I'm sure though. I am good when it comes to
first instinct."

I snorted. What kind of a stupid statement was that?!

"Just like what I think about you. You are not human but you are trustable."

I almost fell over my chair upon hearing those words. Now how the hell did
he know that?! This human is strange, and his power... I didn't know what
to think anymore. He was confusing me.

"When mother's not here, they told me about my power..."

"What?!! What did Koenma tell you?!" I demanded.

	"So you do know him."

Oh shit! I was trapped... I shifted uncomfortably in my chair and stood
up. I started to pace back and forth.

"I'll take that as a yes. He said I have great capability," Auden started.
He seemed a bit amused by all these. "As bizarre as it was, I actually
believed in everything he said. He showed me his power also... I must be
going insane, I am actually trusting someone I don't even know. For all I
know, he could be the Devil."

I looked up sharply at him. Gods...he was losing it... And I knew that I
was nuts to get myself involved in all of these. But then it was my fault
that he lost his vision. What was that idiot Koenma going to do with him
anyway? If Koenma had his eyes on Auden's power, I would not let him
exploit his power as he did with Yusuke. Hell, Yusuke went through Hell
being a Reikai detective, so had all of us...Yusuke, Kuwabara, me, and ...
'him."

	"Hiei, where are you going?"

"I'm going to talk to Koenma," I said.

	"Hiei?"

I didn't answer him. Instead, I exited the room and closed the door behind
me. I hadn't been to Reikai since 'his' death. As much as I hated to go to
Reikai, I somehow felt that I was responsible for this human. Fuck! I had
been around humans too long, I actually gave a damn about what would happen
to Auden. What was the matter with me? It seemed like I was the one who
was really going off the deep end...
