Here's a story I wrote along with some friends. Read it, tell me
what you think:
Nodaka Genko

As I sat in the last class on the last day of school, I found myself
fidgeting, an odd thing for me. I was famous for my ability to show no
anticipation, or feel it for that matter. Preparing for battle, I was a
leader's dream. My mother had been the exact opposite. She always had her
finger on the trigger and that finger was itchy. I disliked this severely
because it meant that the twentieth century was getting to me. I decided to
distract myself.
I placed the silver pentagram pendant, warm from being against my chest all
day, between my index finger and thumb and traced it pattern with my
finger. When I did this I thought of my father, wonderful man that he was.
He taught me that there was a great religion out there, and that modern
religions weren't my only choices. He had shown me Wicca, and I thanked the
Goddess for it everyday.
I moved from playing with the pendant to my soft, purple hair. I was
unaccustomed to it's hue and length, but enjoyed being able to twirl it
around my index finger. I took a lock of it, and began to do just that,
slipping into a dreamy state as I did. The last class on the last day of
school and Saotome-sensei was rambling. I didn't know how much more I could
stand without zoning out permanently. I sort of feared I would,
Saotome-sensei was known for being harsh with his students if they fell
asleep on him, even though he had the reputation of being the easiest to
fall asleep to.
I snapped out of my pensive state as I heard him dismiss us. Like all the
rest of the students, I hopped up very quickly, stuffed all of my things
into my bookbag, and left that classroom ASAP. My uniform itched, something
it had never done before, as I walked to my car. Damn it, I thought,
whatever possessed me to leave my change of clothes at home? I was just
about to the car when a voice chirped my name. I turned and saw Aino
Minako, the fluff-head on my volleyball team, and Kino Makoto, the other
forward on my basketball team, heading towards me. I stopped, put on my
most friendly smile, and
waited for them to make their way over.
"Konnichi wa, Genko-chan!" Minako said in her usual, sickeningly cheerful
voice.
"Konnichi wa, Mina-chan, Mako-chan," I replied as calmly and smoothly as
possible. I was trying my hardest not to laugh.
"We're all going shopping, and we were wondering if you'd like to come,"
Mako-chan said, sounding hopeful.
"Ah, so desuka?" I asked, surprised at the sudden invitation.
"Sa, sa! Everyone in school knows that your fashion sense is the best,"
Minako laughed. I wondered to myself if she was taking Prozac or something.
This was way to happy to be normal.
"Bakarashii. Everyone knows that Setsuna-san is much better than I am," I
told them. I was almost embarrassed that they thought of me so highly. I
began to wonder, when had they seen me without my uniform on?
"Iie, she can design them, but you can but them together," Makoto explained.
"So, what do you say?" Minako asked. I pondered this thought for a few
seconds.
"Hai," I told them, reluctantly. "But, I have many things to do before I
go. Can we meet around six?"
"Hai!" Mina exclaimed. "Meet us in front of the Crown Arcade Center at six.
Sayonara!" And with that she was gone. Mako followed her, shaking her head
and rolling her eyes. I snickered at this, turned and got in my car.
Luckily, talking to them had allowed for a good percentage of the traffic
to work it's way through. It took me half as long as usual to get home,
which was definitely a gift from the Goddess. Talking to Minako was less of
an aggravation than the traffic, which made me consider waiting around and
talking a little after school next year. I quickly removed this thought
from my mind, and then thought, Ami and Mako aren't too bad. Maybe I'll
talk to them. I hoped that they would both be on the little excursion
tonight.
I pulled into the apartment complex where I lived, and gasped. I may have
missed the traffic, but I was missing an on-line appointment, a very
important appointment. I grabbed the first parking space I found, and
rushed up to my apartment. As soon as I was through the door, I rushed to
my room. I went to the corner where the dark gray Acer, which matched the
rest of my room, was sitting on it's computer desk and switched it on. I
went directly to a private chat room, a very private chat room, one which
required a password to get in. I typed in my password, TRUSTNO.1, which was
something I had
learned from an American show they had dubbed over here, and instantaneously
saw the angry words of my guardian. I quickly typed an apology, explaining
that I had been held up by the princesses and had totally forgotten what
today was.
[O.K.] I saw typed across the screen, [But don't let it happen again.]
[No, sensei] I typed in reply.
[So, how are the princesses?] she asked.
[Minako was extremely annoying at this age, ne?]
[Hai, but don't despair. It will get better, trust me]
[I hope so. I'd hate to know that I came from these people]
[Now, Genko-chan, don't get mean. So, what are you doing tonight?
Meditating?]
[Nope, sorry, Selene. The princesses and I plan on shopping until we drop]
I typed, laughing and almost picturing her reaction.
[Well, have fun. Good bye, my child. Be strong and remember you're doing
this for the good of your people]
[I know. Signing off] As soon as I typed that, I shut down, got up and
went to the armoire leaning up against the wall. I opened up the two doors,
grabbed my favorite purple kimono, and headed into the shower. Taking as
little time as possible, I was out in five minutes. Drying off and putting
on the kimono on once again, I headed out into my room. Back at my
armoire, I grabbed my white cotton 26 Red Sugar tank top, full length, black
polyester skirt and blue flip flops. I pulled out my black, cotton cardigan
also, just
in case. I looked through the basket of handbags in my closet, searching
for the clear plastic handbag I had gotten from my comrade in the U.S., the
one with the anime character on the front and back, and the sparkly red
handles. Finally, at the bottom the basket, there it was, staring up at me.
I snatched it up, stuffed the other bags back into the basket, and walked
back out of my walk-in closet. I sat at my vanity and applied everything
that I wasn't allowed to wear at school, the "silver ice" lipstick, "silver
cloud" shimmery eyeshadow cream, and "red delicious" nail polish. I stuck
these into my purse along with the butterfly barrettes I had snapped up out
of my jewelry chest. I looked at
the clock hanging on my wall. Ten of six? I was out of that apartment in a
flash, and a trip that would have usually taken me 15 minutes took me ten.
I smiled proudly at myself for making it out of the house so quickly and
managing to evade the police.
