I have an idea. I was wondering what people would think of my setting
up an Email request for fanfic stories. It would be run by myself. That
is to say, it would not be automated, and It'd take about 24-36 hours
for me to get the file(s) sent out to people. Does anyone think this is
a good idea? My reason for setting this up is that I have often had way
too many problems trying to find Fanfics of one story or another.
I'd probably have a catalog available of all the stories I had plus
choice of them being sent via UUencode & ZIP or sent as text. I'd
probably have a summation available as well.
I'd appreciate any comments people have on this idea.
Would I need to get every author's permission before distributing their
stories? I had originally planned to distribute stories by authors that
gave me permission to.

(I go through a roommate's account so please title any email to me,
personally with "Katrina:<title>" or something like that.)

I think it's a good idea but isn't it better to have a decaying
database which dumps fiction that is more than 30 days old off the
homepage? it will make the people keep track of their fiction avalable
and the authours will need to renew it if they are to keep the story
there.
In addition to cutting down on your job, it would save you some of the
time and effort of keeping 2000 odd fanfics. some of which people won't
want to see again. Your job is cut by at least 70% what is the point of
not getting the page if you get more than 20 fanfic requests a day? it
will swamp you. With a decaying system, you can dump the after 30 days
fic into another system/page.
By then, most of the mailers should have decided if they wish to host
it on their own pages or others himmm?
