I don't quite agree with the thing on Yaoi is to Hentai. I don't think Yaoi
is a lesser degree or synonymous with Hentai. Hentai is something that is
downright sickening and perverse. However, I don't see Yaoi as perverse,
especially those with a decent storyline. Hentai is something that is
downright twisted and out of the league. This is just my two cents on it.
And just to make sure, this post it NOT meant to start a flame war of any kind.
Hey, Hentai stories have feelings TOO ya know ;)
Actually, I thought Yaoi was the Japanese term for slash stories...guys
having sex with one another, in a Lemon like setting...am I wrong?
Please forgive my ignorance (Your probably all used to it by now)
Just so you know, I have NOTHING against male/male pairings, this is
evidenced in my upcoming Soun and Panda story (Isn't that male/cuddily
animal pairings, and boy, do you think I've plugged ...WHOOPS...errrrrr
I mean advertised that story enough)
>From what you've written, I assume that 'slash' is bad, or something.
Or just negative.
But 'yaoi' is a term that comes from shoujo manga. Girl's manga. I
assume that 'slash' is like that comic someone else was talking about
(the German? one?) with just guys having sex and violence, and that's
basically it?
Most yaoi may have violence in it, or it may have a love story, but I
don't think it's this 'slash' thing. Yaoi may not even have lemon scenes
in it. Yaoi could just be two guys who are in love, but don't even do
anything togther ... or they may just kiss. Other yaoi may have the
lemon in it. It's just a genre like the rest of the shoujo genres. It
_can_ be very badly done and written (there seems to be a lot of trash
manga out there, just like there's trash comics in America), or it can
be very well done. There are stories about yaoi violence and rape and
pedophilia ... But the ones that are popular (that are stocked in the
manga shop near the city) are from popular manga, and so have very good
story lines, good artwork, etc ... And the ones that I own that have a
yaoi story in it (the Petite Flower one) is one of the pedophilia/rape
ones. But it is _very_ well done, and the storyline is more interesting
than the scenes ... and the scenes of the pedophilia/rape aren't very
detailed, and have a lot of symbolism ... yet you know what, exactly,
is happening. Though you see a lot of what the boy in the story is
thinking. It also has other elements, like the man is a well respected,
rich man ... yet he's also a murderer. It also goes into the life the
boy has at the boy's high school he goes to, and also shows how he is
changed by the pedophilia/rape ... I don't think it's new, because I
picked up the manga when they were being sold cheaply ... ;p But that
is only one aspect of yaoi that I can really talk about. But there are
books that talk about it, so you can all look them up for more info.
