I write strange things when I am in a depressed or sh*tty mood. Here's an
example of it. It's titled "Prayer To The Faithfully Departed." I've just
finished writing it. Constructive C & C are welcome. Have fun reading.

PRAYER FOR THE FAITHFULLY DEPARTED

He smiled at me, the wind blew back his long hair as the rose petals
enveloped us, I couldn't see! When the wind cleared, he was gone. That was
his goodbye to me, but what made him think that it would make me forget him?

It has been his ghost that I have been seeing. How long has it been since
he died? Several years...two years to be exact. I have been so angry, I
couldn't believe that he would dare to leave me behind. I've known him for
more than half of my lifetime. He had been my one and only friend, and lover.

I recalled how he had always enjoyed teasing me in front of others. I
could never stay angry at him for long. His dazzling smile has always
softened me. It had even broken down my walls and entered my heart.

It was funny how our first encounter hadn't been exactly pleasant. I had
mistaken him for an enemy and had ruthlessly attacked him in front of his
human friend. But not only had he not gotten angry at me, he even tended my
wounds and later helped me defeat that eight-handed youkai. Although I
hadn't been able to find Yukina that day, I've found an alliance.

There had been countless times where he would take care of me. Especially
whenever I was exhausted after using Kokuryuha, he had always taken the
pains to bandage up my arms and made sure that I was all right.

Then there was the time when I had been injured by Mukuro because I had
taunted her about her past. He was there to take care of the wounds on my
stomache. He had even helped me to capture that slave merchant by providing
me with the right Makai plants. No one else I've known would have cared or
even bother helping me with those things. He had been the first person to
care about me.

I had never really understood him. He was a mystery to me. It was
surprising that underneath the fragile human shell, was one of the most
infamous thief in Makai of all time? He could be tender and ruthless at the
same time. He was courteous to everyone, even that dumbass Kuwabara. But
then he could also be merciless, as I had seen him done so toward Toguro Ani
and a lowly youkai who had attempted to blackmail him at the first
tournament by threatening to kill his human mother.

I sat down under a tree and took out a small rose from my pocket. Strange,
this rose never seemed to die. It was beautiful, the red reminded me of his
flaming red human hair while the green of the stem reminded me of his
emerald eyes; the thorns reminded me of his other side, the fox spirit. He
had given this to me as an exchange and a vow on our first night together,
and I had given him in return my tear gem. He had promised me with his body
and soul, that he would forever stay faithful only to me, in body and soul.
That had been a principle that he had acquired from his human mother. He
had kept his promise... so had I. Even until now, I could still remember
that night, it had been the night of Keiko and Yusuke's wedding.

Funny, as corny as it would seemed to me in my early years as a youkai, I
now find our exchange to be rather charming. Had I changed? As much as I
would hate to admit it, I had. In the past I would have hated to admit it,
I would have hated to find myself soften up because I saw it as a weakness;
but now, not anymore. I, the unwanted child of a Koorime, who had never in
my whole life been with anyone or been associated with anyone, had decided
to give myself over to him. It had all been worth it, the sacrifice,
everything, was worth it.

My grief had been great when I lost him. Maybe it was due to the fact that
he knew that I would have no one left in the world to care for me, or maybe
it was due to the fact that he was worried about me, his ghost has stayed
with me for two years. I knew that he was there, among the shadows and
light. He would show himself only to me, and smile only for me. As much as
I would like him to be with me forever, whether in body or in spirit, I
understand that I must let him go. I knew that there would be another
lifetime when we would meet again. He must've understood my meaning as
well. He had told me, before the wind started to rise, that he would wait
for me to rejoin him in Reikai. I knew that it would be painful, to finally
let go of him, but then, what is a lifetime when compared with eternity?

I stood up and brushed the grass off me. I carefully put the rose back
into my pocket and went to his grave. I kneeled in front of it, thinking of
him. I then clasped my hands together, for the first time in my life, and
prayed. It was my prayer for the faithfully departed, to MY faithfully
departed ... for my beloved Kurama.
