My father was born in Atlanta, Ga. to parents of old south
upbringing. Classic southern people who will give you the shirt off of
their backs if you needed it. Both possess the stereotypical southern
drawl. My father doesn't. Both grandparents on this side still live.
My mother was born in St. Louis, Mo. to parents of old south and
British heritage. My maternal Grandmother is a British warbride from the
WWII era. She was a telephone operator during the Blitz. She met my
Grandfather right as the war was ending, married him, gave birth to my
uncle, then moved to the US. My Grandfather died when I was a senior in
highschool (September 19, 1986). My Grandmother still lives in the city
of my birth (Anderson, SC) and still has her English accent intact
(I love listening to her).
Due to my heavy exposure to both sets of my grandparents, I have no
trace of a Southern Accent in my voice, which surprises the hell out of
tourists when I tell them that I have lived my entire life in this state.
