Assume that Ranma and Akane don't marry while in high school and that after
graduation Akane goes to college but Ranma goes off elsewhere, perhaps to
study other martial arts in places like Malaysia, Indonesia, Philipines,
Brazil. My idea is a series of letters from Akane to Ranma, slowly changing
in tone until the last one, a "Dear Ranma" letter ("Dear Ranma" would make a
good titlefor this).
Or you could have letters from Ranma to Akane:
'Dear Akane.
Found Brazilian Martial Arts Master.
Beat the tar out of him.
Yours, Ranma.'
'Dear Akane.
Trained for ten days straight, with no sleep, to beat some Martial Arts
Master. Beat him.
Yours, Ranma.'
The sadfics based on AMG, Ranma, Nuku-Nuku show the fine line between comedy
and tragedy. Consider how easily Romeo and Juliet could become a comedy,
and how equally easily most of Will's comedies could be turned to tragedy.
Something to consider.

"Comedy is when something bad happens to someone else. Tragedy is
when it happens to you." Or something like that, I can't remember
the exact quote, let alone who said it.
I remember reading a fanfic once that used a similar idea, Ranma had
just declared his love to Akane, but she'd realised that she just
didn't love him anymore, and told him so. Depressing stuff, just like
this idea. It's a pretty good idea, and someone should pick it up.

"If in an infinite universe there are infinite possibilities,
then somewhere, somewhen, somehow there must exist an humble
Ranma, an emotionless Soun, a pacifistic Akane and a sane
Kodachi. But no way, no how is there an Happosai who isn't
an evil little letch. More's the pity."
