You're kidding right? You're oversimplifying things a bit. With my own
stuff, if I do even try to type it for people--I rather like that I don't
have to be classified into any specific genre, thus limiting the number of
people who are willing to put themselves to the task of reading--I rather
like to use specific subgenre's;as in how you would classify a regular book.
i.e.
TECH, for technical writing, articles, and the like, pertaining to a
specific area of expertise that is transmitted through the fic
POP, for anything that could be considered transendental, or easily masked
onto any situation, or market, in other words, funny, and most definatley
CONSERVATIVE
ROMATIC, which can be sad, humorous, or even violent at times, but always
must have that sappy exterior that we hopeless spuds really go for. And
sex. Lots of sex. ^_-
LIT, which is usually oppressive what if situations which cross over any
borders that happen to be in the way, and often have sexual content.
ALTER, thus pertaining to alternate universes that happen outside the usual
fanfic clones, and cross over borders of series and such.
EPIC, which usually ends the series, can crossover, but only minimally, and
is strict in it's character portrayal, but not in it's universe.
But why are we talking about this anyway? I mean, why limit your market
when you don't have to?
And if it's just for this list, I thought this was more of a critique
workshop where it didn't matter what you wrote. You could always count on
at least one person to sit down, and take the time to say if they liked it
or not, and state why.
To me, and this is only IMHO, the more you classify your own work, and the
work of others, the more you limit yourself, AND create a powerbase for your
ego to build to gigantic proportions.
Really, do you like buttering yourself just to get out the door, or is it
just me who doesn't like being greasy all the time?
Purely esoteric subject, I know. But give it some thought before you
decide to try bring some order to a nice little cache of chaos. We have so
little of it, you know.
