God Damn, Richard.
I'm crying here.
*sniffle*
This is... well, it's the most touching story I've read on the FFML in
a long time. In the course of your previous three stories about
Atsuko-chan, you made her a lovable, decent, wonderful human being. And
then in this story, you offer her everything she's worked for... and
then take it away.
But in taking it away, you showed how grief stimulates us, sometimes,
by inspiring us to change the world in a better way to honor those who
have left us. Sometimes, for no good reason at all... for stupid
reasons, the best people in the world slip away... and when that happens
to me, I hope I can remember this story, and try to learn from it that
one of the best things to do is to build upon the life of the one you've
lost.
Now excuse me. I've got to go get some tissues. I've run out.

Any ordinary man can surround himself with two thousand books and
thenceforward have at least one place in the world in which it is
possible to be happy.
