This is a Valentines' Day fanfic about Kuwabara-kun and Yukina-san. This is
hot off the press so there are probably plenty of mistakes. I hope you guys
enjoy reading this. Constructive C & C are welcome. Gotta go now. I'm 4
minutes late for the movie! Enjoy!

Kitty, Kitty
I walked nervously down the crowded streets as I search for a good
Valentines Day present. What will she like? Diamonds? Her tear gems are
worth even more than that so I doubt that will do her any good. Not that I
have the money to buy her anything too expensive anyway. People say that
it's the thought that counts, but... but I want to make it a special day
for her.
I sighed as I sat down on the bench. I had been searching and looking for
a good present since last Monday. There just doesn't seem to be anything
that will fit her. She's such a sweet girl, such an innocent girl too! She
deserves more than just a stuff animal or a box of chocolate. What can I
get her? It was then that I realized just how little I know about this
beautiful girl. Some good boyfriend I would make! Damn it! She doesn't
even know that I like her!!
I looked enviously at the couples walking down the streets. They looked so
happy. Don't I feel pathetic! Yusuke's got Keiko, Kurama's mom's got her
husband, Yusuke's mom is getting back with her ex-husband, even that little
shrimp Hiei's got Kurama. I wonder what Kurama sees in that little jerk.
What am I going to do? I don't know what she likes.
"Kazuma, what are you doing sitting here? Got dumped?" That voice. Only
one person can speak like that to me: Shizuru.
"What?" I replied impatiently. "Stop rubbing things in."
"Ah, I see," My sister replied. "you don't have a gift for Yukina-chan."
"Yeah, yeah..." I muttered under my breath. "Now leave me alone."
"Is this what I get for being nice to you?" Shizuru asked. She took out a
cigarette and lighted it. "I was here to help you, you dumbass!"
"Hey, don't call me a dumbass!" I snapped.
"You don't want my help? That's fine with me. I've got better things to
do," Shizuru replied and started to walk off.
"Uh... Sis?"
"Yes?"
"Um... will you please..." I stuttered.
"Sure, why not?" She answered matter-of-factly. "It will be free of charge
this time. You do need some help, Kazuma."
I ignored her remark and followed her into the department store.
"Hm... First of all, you should know what a girl likes," Shizuru said. "do
you know what Yukina-chan likes?"
I shook my head sadly.
Shizuru sighed and said, "You are hopeless. A pretty girl like her should
have something pretty to wear instead of those kimonos."
"Huh? I thought she has been wearing human clothing ever since she started
living with us."
"She has been wearing my clothes you idiot! Can't you see that those
clothes don't really fit her that well?!"
"Oh."
"I swear, sometimes you are just so thick!!" She muttered. Then
something caught her eyes. She went and picked up a very nice black blouse.
"Hm... Yukina-chan would look nice in something dark. I've seen her wearing
light colors too much."
"Huh? Dark colors? But she's a Koorime," I said.
"So?" Shizuru asked. "Change, is good." She then handed me the blouse.
I looked at the price tag and I almost fainted. Fifty-thousand Yen!!!
"Don't tell me that you won't buy her something nice just because it's
expensive," Shizuru said to me. "Men can be so cheap!!"
That is NOT true!! I wanted to tell her. I've been saving up the money so
that I could take Yukina to a nice restaurant and eat some GOOD Ningenkai
food. Both Shizuru and I are terrible cooks, sometimes I wonder if it is
the fact that Yukina-san is a youkai that prevented her from being
food-poisoned.
Since I decided that a dinner was more important than some blouse that
Yukina could only wear once so often, Shizuru and I ended up spending the
rest of the day in the shopping mall helping HER to get something nice to
wear for her date tonight instead. Seems like she has gotten herself
another boyfriend. I bought a box of chocolate and a dozen roses before
calling it a day.
That night, I busily got dressed and comb my carrot hair. I was so
nervous. Finally! I would be going out and eat dinner with Yukina. That
was a date! Wow!
"Yukina-san! Are you ready?" I asked.
"Kazuma-san! Sometime's wrong with Miko-chan!" Yukina said quietly.
"She's not feeling very well..."
*Oh no... Just what I need now... Kitty problems.* I thought with dread.
"Uh... get your coat Yukina-san," I said quickly as I put down the gifts
and swooped up the cat. "We are going to the vet and get Miko-chan taken
cared of."
"Hai!" Yukina grabbed her coat and headed out the door into the nights. I
ran out after her carrying Miko-chan and in a panic tripped over the sofa.
I almost fell but maintained my balance just in time. My shin hit the
corner of the table, hard.
*Ouch! There's going to be a bruise there...* I thought.
The trip to the vet was a disaster. We ran into traffics and waited in
long lines, not to mentioned that the nurse had a total attitude problem.
Finally, it was my cat's turn and we brought her into the vet's office.
"Hm... why congratulations!" Exclaimed the doctor in excitement after he
examined Miko-chan. "Mr. and Mrs. Kuwabara, your cat is about to give birth
to her kitties!"
*Mr. and Mrs. Kuwabara?* I thought as I felt my face turning red. "He
meant us? Yukina and I? We are a couple! Yippee!!!*
I looked sideway and saw Yukina's puzzled and concerned face. "Will she be
all right?"
"Oh yes, definitely all right," said the doctor. "please wait outside and
we'll have this cat taken care of." So, Yukina and I were ushered out of
the office in a hurry.
We sat in the office in silence. Yukina was worried about Miko-chan while
I was too excited to say anything. Finally, the door opened and the vet
carried Miko and her kitten out. I paid the vet and headed back. I looked
at my watch and saw that it was already ten-thirty!! The restaurant was
already closed! I was very disappointed and I felt very guilty. I had
promised Yukina a nice dinner and instead ... this! I should've gone ahead
and bought her the blouse instead. Shizuru was right, I am cheap! I felt
absolutely miserable.
I walked home in silence as the snow started to fall.
"Ah, Kazuma-san! It's snowing!" Yukina said. "I love snow!"
"Yes, snow is beautiful," I replied. "I am sorry that I wasn't able to
take you out to dinner tonight. It was my fault that Miko-chan..."
"Your fault? Why, not at all!" Yukina said. "You brought Miko-chan to the
doctor and brought four more kittens into this world. I would much prefer
four kittens than a dinner!"
"You do?" I asked, surprised.
"Of course, Kazuma-san! You are a kind-hearted person. This is the best
gift I've ever received. I am so happy that I've met someone like you,
Kazuma-san! I am the luckiest girl in the world!" Yukina said and she smiled.
What a beautiful smile! No, she was not the luckiest girl in the world.
It is I. I am the luckiest man on Earth, because I have just received the
best compliment and the most beautiful smile from the prettiest and sweetest
girl in the world.
