Sailor Moon Alpha

Part 2: Revelations
by Mike Ray

In a poorly lit throne hall, a dark figure sat relaxed in an elaborately
carved stone throne. He sat in the shadows as if waiting for someone,
quietly and with his arms crossed. All he could think about was Jadeite
and how foolish his actions were. He worried that all the hard work to
get to this point had been ruined by his hasty actions.
Master Obsidian, I came as quickly as I could, Jadeite said with a
slight hint of intimidation in his voice as he rose his head up toward
the throne.
I am disappointed with you Jadeite. You of all people should know how
critical this stage of the operation is. How can you disobey my direct
orders? Obsidian said raising his voice with each new sentence and
ending with him pounding his fist on the arm of the throne; chipping off
a piece.
I dont know what came over me sir, Jadeite said as he looked toward
the ground. I just...
I know exactly what came over you....Vengeance, Obsidian said keeping
a stern, commanding, but calm voice. You didnt think I knew about
your little squabble with some particular scouts, but I do. It is
amazing the knowledge you can acquire when you have nothing better to
do. I have one thing to say about this subordination.... Obsidian said
as Jadeite cringed. I like it.
What? Jadeite looked at Obsidian amazed for the fact he was still
alive.
Vengeance makes a person strong and it hightens their drive to get a
job done. Your vengeance against those earthlings is admirable and a
strength you have that is absent in all the others involved in this
project. As much as I like to see you like this, now is not the time
nor the place for such emotions. We need to keep the intervention of
the scouts in this operation to be kept at a minimum. In short...The
less they know, the better, and I am worried you have ruined that
certain aspect. That is why I am going to keep you here with me and not
down on Earth where you could do more damage than help with their
knowledge of you. I am putting you to head this operation from here and
maybe work out your vengeance through Rameck and Erythrite. Obsidian
finished with a fearsome smirk almost like he was happy with todays
events. I am done with you. I will inform you on anything else
later. You may go.
With that, Jadeite vanished with a hidden anger deep in his gut. He
never liked Obsidian from the start, and it was clear that trust was an
absent luxury in their relationship. Even though Obsidians stoic facade
hid his deepened hatred toward him, it did not fool Jadeite, whom has
known Obsidian all too well. Jadeite never trusted a man whom decieved
and exploited both Moon and Dark Kingdom without remorse or purpose.
This incident only reinforced his feelings about Obsidian.
Obsidian was alone again and did not waist any time as he called for
Rameck and Erythrite and both appeared before him. Erythrite appeared
instantly, but there was a lag between her and Rameck as he phased in
and out for a couple of times before he finally locked onto the
position.
It seems you are having a little trouble Rameck, Obsidian said
worringly, but still with a great deal of authority. I take it that
you are going to fix it?
Yes sir, Rameck commented as he hit a couple of buttons on a small
compuerized pad on his wrist. It is only the magnetic fields of
Europa. They are playing havoc with my instruments. There is nothing
to worry about. It is being fixed.
That is something I could never understand with you. Always relying
on your extravagant gadgets. Obsidian said as he leaned back into the
chair. I have a job for both of you. Erythrite, he said as he
directed his attention toward her. He recognized the face all too
well. Pale skin and black, waist length hair, dressed in a normal Dark
Kingdom uniform with the same pendant as Jadeite, but the uniform had
white trim. Erythrite was not the best of generals, but she was young
and followed every order told to her. Her demeanor was filled with
determination and a mean streak that was admired by Obsidian. I want
you to find the headpiece to the Staff of Alnilam. Do not fail me, you
know the consequences for people who displease me. Now go!
Yes Sir, the black haired general said as she disappeared.
As for you Rameck, Obsidian commented as he turned to Rameck. A
young man, in his twenties, with short green hair and no association to
the old Dark Kingdom. He wore a uniform reminiscent of a typical bounty
hunter, it was gray with haphazardly attached pieces of machinery.
Rameck was the most mysterious of all three of Obsidians generals with
a demeanor much like a mad scientist, but much more stern and
disciplined. I need you to keep an eye on the sailor scouts and make
sure they do not interfere with our plans. Just watch them for now, but
if they look like they will cause trouble for us, do whatever in your
power to make sure they do not. Now go to Jadeite and he will tell you
exactly what to do. You may go.
With that, Rameck vanished as he touched a small pad of his wrist: this
time he vanished with no incident which pleased Obsidian as he was once
again alone in the room. He rose up from the chair and turned around.
There he could see the barren landscape of Europa through a huge
circular window. It the distance, he could see six pillars of different
hights rising out of a mound of rubble. Our plan is set into motion
and the Dark Orion Kingdom will live once again. Queen Beryl was a fool
for not realizing the power this planet possesses. With that, he
turned around with his cape flapping behind him and fists clenched. I
am trusting you, Rameck, to make sure the scouts do not become a
problem, he said to himself as he sat back down in the dark throne,
deep in thought.

* * *

Back in Tokyo, the sailor scouts held an emergency meeting at Usagis
house. Her parents and brother were away for the night to visit an
ailing acquaintance.
All the scouts sat around a large table while Luna and Artemis found
places to sit on the table-top. Since it was an emergency, no prior
planning had gone into what was on the menu as far as snacks go so
Serena was scrounging around in the nearby kitchen.
We are about to begin Usagi, Ami told Usagi whom was still in the
kitchen looking for food.
	Be right there....
I guess we can start, Luna started. Well only have to repeat it to
Serena anyway.
OK. By what Usagi told me earlier, Ami started. A man known by the
name of Jadeite has returned. Artemis, Lita and Mina have not met him
before, but the rest of us know him all too well when he served under
Queen Beryl. I know we did away with Beryl and her minions, but the
only one that just disappeared after a heated fight was Jadeite... Ami
continued talking and familiarizing everyone with the current problem
while Serena walked in with a couple of jars.
Im back, Serena whispered to Luna as she lay the jars on the
ground. She sat down and took one of the jars, opened it, and started
eating. Luna noticed Serena had finally arrived, but she did not turn
around until she picked up a peculiar odor in the air coming from behind
so she turned around.
Is that relish? Luna asked worringly with one brow raised.
	Yup.
Oh, brother, Luna said with a sigh. Leave it to Serena to make a
snack out of anything.
...and we never heard of him since. Ami ended her description of
Jadeite. It was as if he just fell out of existence... Serena. You
knew jadeite longer that anybody. Any news you can add would be useful
Well. What did you say so far?
I knew this was going to happen, Ami said as she brought her head to
the table.
One thing I know for sure, Serena started. Jadeite is definitely a
lot stronger. If it was not for Tuxedo Mask. I would probably be dead
by now. Talking about Tuxedo Mask, wheres Darien?
He had to go to some meeting. Rei said as her eyes focused on the jar
Serena was scooping out the whole time. Is that relish?
	Ya. Why?
Nothing, Rei looked away. I will not say a single thing.
Well it does seem that this Jadeite character had plenty of time to
strengthen and become stronger, Artemis started as he broke the useless
conversation. I think we should re-asess his abilities and not take
for granted that he is the same person you knew before. Then he
commented to himself that with all things aside, the name Alnilam rang a
bell, but he could not put his finger on it.
Well that point is obvious, Mina interrupted as she talked for the
first time that night. It is no doubt we have to take him seriously or
well all end up dead. With that, the conversation continued about
Jadeite and the questions continued about his powers and the reasons of
his reappearance remained a mystery. After a few hours, the night was
winding down and everyone was just about to head home when Artemis
jumped on the table and shouted.
Now I remember, Artemis started as he sat down on the table. Take a
seat, this may take a while. Man, oh, man. I cant imagine how I could
forget something that important. Maybe Ive been around Serena too
long.
This is not one of your kitty lectures again, is it? Mina asked as if
she didnt want to sit through another one of his ridiculously long
lectures on Sailor etiquette.
No it isnt. Now listen, Artemis started in his story mode.
Throughout the history of the moon kingdom, there were various
adversaries that wanted the kingdom destroyed. The Negaverse was only
the latest adversary which has been defeated, as we already know. There
was a kingdom long before that called the Dark Orion Kingdom. The
reason I bring this up is because this kingdom had overthrown the moon
kingdom for a span of a couple of hundred years. They accomplished
this with the help of seven staffs with unknown origin. These staffs
gave such immense power the dark kingdom that they overpowered the moon
kingdom in a matter of days. The staffs fed of each other and
strengthened the users hold on whatever he wanted to do. Each had its
own special power, and all seven were the powers needed for ultimate
power. There were three major staffs and four lesser staffs. The
three major staffs were the controlling staffs and they were named the
Staff of Control, called the Staff of Alnilam; the Staff of Power,
called the Staff of Mintaka; and the Staff of Change, called the Staff
of Alnitak. The four lesser staffs were basically energy amplifiers and
had very little powers within themselves, if any.
Anyway, the Moon Kingdom found a weakness in the dark kingdom itself
with fights breaking out within the chain of command. They were
fighting over who would take over the kingdom because their King was
ailing and would die within days. The Moon Kingdom used this to their
advantage and fought the Dark Kingdom at its weakest. After a long,
hard battle, the Dark Orion Kingdom ceased to exist and the Moon kingdom
gathered all the staffs. They vowed nothing like this would happen
again, so they locked them up and guarded them for more than a thousand
years. During the time of Queen Serenity, she decided the staffs were
to dangerous to keep and they are too powerful to fall into the wrong
hands. So she secretly had them dismantled into two parts each, the
headpiece and the rod, and had them sent in opposite directions and
taken to every corner of the universe to insure they will never rejoin.
Since many generations have passed since the Orion Kingdom, everyone has
pretty much forgotten about them. Any questions?
Artemis finished and all he got from the team were blank stares.
What? he asked looking at everyone.
You never told me this. Mina started.
You never asked... and besides, I was sworn not to tell anybody unless
it was an emergency. Everyone seemed to forget about them and that was
exactly what Queen Serenity wanted. The Staffs can disappear without
incident and they will never be a problem again. At least, that was her
plan. I guess some information leaked out somewhere or was remembered
by someone. You can see how even I forgot about them even after I was
told about them, I guess it worked out for the better that I did
forget.
And after I thought I knew you too, Mina commented with both hands
on her waist. I think you should walk home today. No free rides.
But I had to keep it secret, Artemis commented, dreading the thought
of walking so far. Imagine how powerful Queen Beryl would have been if
she had these staffs. The only reason why the Negaverse did not know
about them was the plain and simple strike of luck and the fact that it
happened so long ago.
Come on Artemis, Luna said. I hear the same tone coming from you
that I hear from Serena every time her parents ask her to get the mail
out of the mailbox. It sounds to me you need excersize just as much as
she does.
Well, Artemis hesitated, trying to change the subject. It is
getting late. Lets talk about this tomorrow and maybe we dont have to
eat relish. He said as he gave Serena a funny look.
It didnt taste that bad, Serena commented as everyone let out a sigh
of disappointment.
Meanwhile, Rameck did not waste any time as he was already spying on
the sailor team through a window. He appeared during Artemis
heartwarming story about the Staffs of the Orion Kingdom. Some of which
was quite informative because he was, for the most part, left in the
dark about why Obsidian wanted the headpiece of Alnilam in the first
place. It also explained why he carried a strange rod around everywhere
he went. Rameck watched as they all decided to stay together through
the night just in case Jadeite attacked again looking for the
headpiece. Rameck found this a perfect time to cash up on the sailor
scouts paranoya and catch a nap or two. He didnt need to follow every
scout around the whole night since they were all staying in the same
place.
The scouts were talking about what they would do the next day when Rei
turned toward the window Rameck was looking through. She felt something
very abnormal, an energy spike of some kind. Before Rei could see
anything through the window, Rameck touched a computer pad on his wrist
and disappeared. He looked into Reis eyes and hoped his invisibility
field had worked. It did work as Rei took her eyes from the window and
continued what she was doing. But for that split second, Rei thought
she did see something, but passed it off and blamed it on her lack of
sleep. Rameck saw into a sailor scouts eyes for the first time and only
saw a young girl, not someone who could summon fire with one word. Even
though Rei could not see him, she was the first person to look at Rameck
without fear, the first person Rameck looked at without fear staring
back at him. He felt a very unstable bond that moment, but threw it to
the wind and continued his surveillance throughout the night on a nearby
tree branch. Nothing happened the rest of the night as Rameck slowly
fell asleep himself.
