In a message dated 97-02-11 00:44:17 EST, you write:
This would tend to imply that the diluted (and therefore, weaker) water
merely affects you in a more general way (which could also explain why
merely being splashed, instead of immersed, does not replace your curse,
but alter it (e.g. Tarou's octopus tentacles)), while the pure, undiluted
water literally changes you to be an exact match of whatever drowned
there.
Ah. Now there's an answer that i would like to get when i need to be
corrected. If only the rest of the FFML members who responded were as nice.
Changing the subject slightly, has anyone thought about how the springs of
Jyusenkyo were created? In a defunct Indiana Jones piece of fanfiction I was
writing, I had Jyusenkyo as a lost colony of Atlantis (the end of the Fate of
Atlantis was changed to trap Indy inside with his only hope - a broken colony
transporter that is marked "Colony Transport - Jyusenkyo"). The springs were
actually a failed attempt to preserve life; the colony itself was experimenting
on ways to preserve life. In the end, the Atlanteans died out, but not after
several failed experiments with a liquid that could store soul essences and
transmit them to others, thereby granting immortality for the person who
drowned there.
The liquid may not have worked properly, but over the years, it escaped its
containers and seeped to the surface, and into the springs of Jyusenkyo. As
people started to drown there, the pools began to retain the soul of those
drowned, ready to impart them onto the next unlucky victim.
And that was the basic premise I had for that version of Ranma 1/2 history.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has a story for the creation of
Jyusenkyo for the original Ranma 1/2, or any alternate universes they've
created.
Thanks, and...
...ciao!

Darkness won't engulf my head,
I can see by infra-red,

Now I lay me down to sleep,
Try to count electric sheep,
Sweet dream wishes you can keep,
How I hate the night."
