Hi all.
Heinlein did something like that in The Number of the Beast. A good
read,
especialy if you like crossovers.
It would have been a lot *better* if it had a plot... >_<
*groan*...another one.
NotB os Sean's favorite Heinlein. He's read it about 50 times, and
loves it a lot. He also likes CWWTW and TSBtS. His Dirty Pair cross
will definitely crossover with *late* Heinlein.
Warn me so I can avoid that one.
Now *that's* what the mailing list needs: A flame war about Heinlein.
But, now that I've stuck my face out to be slapped (SLAP - Thanks),
here's my view on the subject. I liked the Number of the Beast the
first time I read it... but subsequent times, without the mystery of
'what comes next', it's not nearly as much fun as his other works.
And to continue with that theme, I think The Cat Who Walks Through
Walls was interesting right up to the point where Lazurus pops in.
Bleh. He's a fun guy (Especially in the earlier books), but he's hardly
someone I'd want to have running around with trans-universal drive.
Especially if I had a sister. :)
But hey, how about wrenching this back towards the topic? Personally,
I think the vistor from a meta-reality joining the BGC crew has been
done to death. I like how Bert handled it in his series (starting out
fairly incompitant, and still not really stable enough to trust by
himself), I like how Twister handled it in his (by not joining the KS,
and just hanging out and helping out), and finally, how Gryphon and
Megazone handled it (by importing tech from other universes that largely
out-classes the local tech - if you've got interdimensional resources,
why not *use* them?), but I'd be hardpressed to see a new variation on
it other than this 'Books' Thing, which sounds interesting. (As I seem
to pick it: the main character (Ian?) tries to run away from being
squished by all the mechas, and Sylia is very suspicious about his
knowledge... in other words, knowing about BGC seems to be a handicap
for the poor boy.)
So bite me. :-)
Not even with Happousai's dentures. }:-{D
Redneck (hey, I liked Wedding, but please don't put Lazarus Long on the
invite list)
Why am I suddenly remembering the end of Star Wars? "STAY ON TOPIC!
STAY ON TOP.." BOOM!
